Expert Answers about Audi Q5

  • Does Installation of Stealth Hitch on 2019 Audi Q5 TFSI Quattro Require Trimming
  • Installation of the Stealth Hitches Hidden Rack Receiver # 391AUDQ518 will not require any cutting or trimming on your 2019 Audi Q5 TFSI Quattro. The receiver will fit in the factory cutout in the bumper. This has a max tongue weight of 600 lbs which is more than enough for a bike rack like the Kuat NV 2.0 # BA22B. If you plan on towing you will need the # 391AUDQ518T instead which includes the towing kit. You could also add the towing kit # 391CONVD5 in the future if you change your...

  • Trailer Wiring Harness for a 2010 Audi Q5 With Tow Package
  • Since your Q5 has the factory tow package, you can use the Hopkins # HM40975 which would connect to the round US Car connector located behind the rear bumper. Take a look at the linked video which will show the trailer connector being installed on a different vehicle. Even though it's being installed on a different vehicle, you can see what the connector looks like.

  • Removing Bumper Beam to Install Draw-Tite 76185 Class III Trailer Hitch on 20018 Audi Q5
  • The Draw-Tite # 76183 calls for the beam to be removed and not reinstalled because their engineering shows that having the hitch in place provides just as much protection as the bumper beam. The install reuses the existing factory bolts. If you'll be using the hitch for towing purposes, I'd recommend the # 119250KIT trailer wiring harness, the # C45010 ball mount and the # 19260 trailer ball for a 1-7/8 inch or # 63845 for a 2 inch ball. If you use the provided links, you can see install...

  • Do I Need the Curt Stabilizing Strap on My Class III Curt Hitch?
  • The Curt Cam Buckle Stabilizing Strap # 18050 is usually used on Class I or Class II hitches to help distribute the weight on them. Since your hitch # C13136 for your 2013 Ausi Q5 is a Class III hitch, then it does not need the stabilizing strap. If you did want to use the strap for extra support, it would be attached to your bike rack and not your bike.

  • Choosing a Ball Mount with the Draw-Tite Trailer Hitch on a 2015 Audi Q5
  • When we installed the Draw-Tite Max-Frame Trailer Hitch Receiver # 75940 on both a 2016 and a 2017 Audi Q5 we found the ground clearance (from ground to inside top of the receiver) was 15". Even though we haven't had a chance to install this trailer hitch on a 2015 model the measurement should be really close to that if not the exact same. With this in mind, all you have to do to choose the correct ball mount is park and level your trailer on level ground and then measure from the ground...

  • Trimming Required for Draw-Tite Hitch on 2012 Audi Q5
  • I have attached for you below a snip from the instructions for the Draw-Tite Max-Frame Trailer Hitch Receiver part # 75940 which is a fit for a 2012 Audi Q5.This snip goes over the details for trimming the rear bumper fascia. Unfortunately, Draw-Tite does not provide a measurement from the bottom edge so I cannot provide this. In order to find the depth of the cut you'll need to measure from the top of the rib or recessed area, down 6 1/4” which you can see in the photo below.

  • Installation Of Wiring On 2012 Audi Q5
  • We do not have any installers outside of our office in Wentzville Missouri. I recommend contacting a trusted local auto repair shop to complete the installation. Depending on what wiring you are looking to have installed we have helpful installation videos that can make DIY installation less confusing. I attached a video of us installing the Tekonsha ZCI Circuit Protected Vehicle Wiring Harness with Installation Kit # 119250KIT on a 2018 Audi Q5 as an example.

  • Audi Q5 2015 Trailer Wiring Installation
  • The best installation instructions I can give you for installing the # C59236 on your 2015 Audi Q5 would be to use a circuit tester like part # PTW2993 to test the wiring harness of the taillights you have on your vehicle and then wire up the # C59236 accordingly by function. Here's how the converter will wire to your taillights. Converter Brown Wire: Tail Light Circuit Converter Yellow Wire: Left Turn Circuit Converter Red Wire: Brake Light Circuit Converter Green Wire: Right Turn Circuit

  • Will Hitch Installation Affect Hands-Free Liftgate Sensor Operation on a 2019 Audi Q5
  • The Hands-free Liftgate Sensors on your 2019 Audi Q5 will still function with any of the trailer hitches we carry installed, but since you are adding a big piece of steel near the sensors this will limit the area that the sensors pick up your foot movement to directly on either side of the hitch receiver. Out of the Draw-Tite # 76183, Curt # C13331, and EcoHitch # 306-X7397 options I highly recommend the Curt because in our experience their construction is better than the Draw-Tite and...

  • Can I Use the Curt Echo Even Though the Factory 7 Way Connector is Angled Down
  • We've actually seen this before with the Curt Echo # C51180 and Audi factory trailer plugs before, and the downward angle on your 7 way bracket will not affect the operation of the controller. You won't need to reposition the plug and the Echo will work in this orientation, so there's nothing to worry about there. You also should be able to plug in without any issues, but it's likely you'll get some dragging when going over speed bumps and such, so if that becomes an issue and there is...

  • Locating Right Turn Signal Circuit on 2012 Audi Q5 To Install Trailer Connector
  • Because the car manufacturers can vary the vehicle wire colors from year to year, we typically tell folks to wire by function, not by color. We haven't yet installed a wiring harness on a 2012 Q5. When we installed a taillight wiring harness on a 2011 Q5, we found that the wire for the right turn will located in the upper connector and was a black wire with a green stripe (see linked video). The wire attaches to a tan plug. The plug will have many wires going into it, but each wire slot...

  • Tools Required for Hitch Install on a 2012 Audi Q5
  • In the install instructions for the Curt hitch part # C13136 that you referenced Curt recommends safety goggles, a ratchet, T-20 and T-27 Torxbit socket, 3/4 9/16 10 mm and 13mm socket, screwdriver, 12 inch socket extension, a marker, a power drill, a 1/2 inch drill bit, a torque wrench and a cut-off wheel on a grinder. The torque specs are listed in the attached install instructions. I also attached an install video that details the entire install process as well.

  • Wiring Connections for Trailer Wiring Harness on a 2016 Audi Q5s
  • Trailer wiring harness # 119250KIT doesn't have vehicle specific installation instructions so you have to test the vehicle wiring using the included circuit tester to make sure you are connecting its wires to the proper vehicle wire. Since your 2016 Audi Q5s has a multiplex wiring system it can take some trial and error to test and find the right wires, but it does not require splicing to attach. On your vehicle the brake lights and tail lights operate on the same wire. So you would...

  • How to Identify Which Wire is the Cold Side of the Stop Light Switch on a 2010 Audi Q5
  • When installing a brake controller like the Tekonsha Prodigy P3 # 90195 on your 2010 Audi Q5 you are correct that you do not want to connect the Red wire to the hot side of the brake light switch. You can find out if the pink or brown wire is the cold side of the stop light switch using a Circuit Tester # PTW2992 and testing to see which one gets hot only when the brake pedal is pressed.

  • How Does Tekonsha Trailer Wiring Harness # 119250KIT Wire to 2014 Audi Q5
  • A 2014 and 2016 Audi Q5 are the same generation so the install video for the trailer wiring harness part # 119250KIT that's attached below would be the correct guide to use. Looks like the blue and black wire carries the running light circuit so that gets ran to the brown wire of the harness, for the yellow wire of the harness you run that to either the gray and white wire or the gray and black wire on the left turn side of the vehicle and the same color for the right-hand side for the...

  • Can the Rear Wipers of a 2011 Audi Q5 be Activated with the Over-the-Top # HRF2 Installed
  • There are 2 things that you cannot do with any bike rack installed and those are opening the rear hatch/trunk or using the rear wiper blades as both of these can cause damage to the bike rack. This is the same case for the Hollywood Racks Over-the-Top # HRF2 on your 2011 Audi Q5. Although the Over-the-Top is a fit for your Q5, if you want a bike rack that allows you to use your rear wiper blade then I recommend installing the Draw-Tite Trailer Hitch # 75940 and using the Kuat Beta # B202-2....

  • Installing a Trailer Wiring Harness on a 2012 Audi Q5
  • The brake lights and tail lights should be on the same wire on your 2012 Audi Q5 and the turn signals will have their own wires. So when installing wiring harness # C59236 follow the PWM-ST instructions. For this installation the harness green wire splices to the vehicle right turn signal wire. Yellow is left turn signal wire. Red splices to the combined brake/tail light wire on the vehicle. Brown you will ground with the white wire.

  • Trailer Hitch for 2018 Audi Q5 With No Bumper Fascia Trimming Required
  • The Curt Class III hitch, part # C13331 would require that you trim the fascia in order to install it on your 2019 Audi Q5, so I wouldn't recommend it for a leased vehicle. The same would hold true for the Draw-Tite Class III, part # 76183 as you can see in the linked instructions. The good news is that we do offer the EcoHitch Class III, part # 306-X7397 that wouldn't require trimming of the bumper fascia. The installation is more involved, but it won't require altering the vehicle in...

  • Where to Feed the Security Strap of the Yakima FullBack on a 2019 Audi Q5
  • If you are having trouble feeding the security strap of the Yakima FullBack, part # Y02634, through the top of your hatch, then you can feed it through the bottom. The security strap is not meant as another point for anchoring. It's simply there as an anti-theft strap that will keep the rack from coming loose if someone tries to pull it off. As such, it doesn't matter if you feed this through the top or bottom of your hatch since either way the anchor will stay inside the vehicle.

  • 4-Pole Wiring Harness Installation on 2012 Audi Q5
  • If you are installing a 4-pole wiring harness kit like # 119250KIT or # C59236 you'll use a circuit tester like # PTW2993 or the one included with the kit to test the vehicle's taillight wiring to find what function is carried on each one. Auto makers are not consistent with wire colors used in vehicle production, so testing is the only way to be sure you are making the correct connections. The linked videos show how to use a tester. In standard 4-pole trailer wiring harnesses like those...
