Video Transcript for Spectro Wiring Steel Tubing Clamp Review

Host Hi there, RV and trailer owners. Today we're going to be taking a look at Spectro Wiring's steel tubing clamps. These are available in three different sizes: you can get quarter-inch, half-inch or three-quarter, for the appropriate size wiring or hoses that you need to secure. These hose clamps are great for securing wiring, hoses, and brake lines and other items that run front-to-back on your trailer, to keep them from vibrating around, potentially rubbing on things, and over time, wearing out and damaging themselves. They come in various sizes for the various different components. You want to try to match the size as close as possible; it's gonna minimize the amount of vibration it has, 'cause it's gonna hold it secure inside the clamp, but you don't want one that's too small, 'cause we don't want to crush our lines or damage them.

So we're gonna be using the three-quarter inch lines here, for securing our propane line; you can see that our propane line here kinda hangs down. I don't like it being able to move around like this, 'cause that could potentially hit on here, and rub and over time wear through and cause leaks. So I just slide it over, and then I'm gonna squeeze it down, and you can we that we've got a nice fit around our hose. It's got just a little bit of movement; once we tighten it down, it should hold it secure without letting it slide around. Our clamp also has a rubber coating that goes all the way around it on each side, and that's gonna ensure that we don't have any metal contact on our line, 'cause it can still potentially vibrate in here, but if we've got rubber on each side, it's not going to wear through, and last for a very long time.

To secure these, we're just gonna use some self-tapping screws. You can get some here at etrailer, if you do need some. So we're just gonna put our hose up there. We'll then just slide our self-tapping screw through the eyelets in the clamp, and we're gonna secure it down. The self-tapping screws we're using, we're gonna use an 8mm socket.

So at this point now, we've got this hose secured here; we're just gonna follow the hose back, and at any point where it seems to hang down, where it could potentially vibrate and rub, we're gonna secure those. We ran ours into the bottom of our Mantis trailer that we're working on here, but here's a more typical bottom and underside of a trailer. You don't usually have something you can just go straight up in, so you're normally gonna secure your lines to the frame, or any crossbeams. The smaller sizes, such as the half-inch and quarter, are really good for wiring, as well as electric over hydraulic conversions, if your puttin' brake lines on your trailer, the quarter-inch is recommended for most of the quarter-inch lines that you're gonna get, 'cause that'll hold it secure and keep it from vibrating. And the larger half-inch hoses can be used for the flexible brake hoses, where they go down from the frame of the trailer to the wheels.

The quarter-inch would also be good for an application like this. This is on a boat trailer that has surge brakes on it. We can see the brake line where it runs across the axle here. The clamps that are currently there are, they don't have any rubber coating, so it's just metal on metal, so if we got any vibration in this line, or water, and moisture gets down in here, it can start to cause rust and corrosion, due to the the two metals, so I highly recommend using the rubber-coated ones, like we we're showin' off. And that completes our look at Spectro Wiring's steel tubing clamps..
