2001 GMC Sierra - SuperSprings Suspension Stabilizer and Sway Control Kit - OEM Leaf Springs Above Axle

  • Rear Axle Suspension Enhancement
  • Leaf Springs
  • Light Duty
  • SuperSprings Intl

950-lb Capacity. Install these helper leaf springs above your GMC Sierra's rear factory leaf springs. They reduce sway and prevent sagging, which is perfect for towing or hauling heavy loads. Designed for OEM springs that sit above the axle.

Features:

  • Reinforce your vehicle's rear suspension with extra leaf springs that prevent sagging and reduce sway by up to 30 percent
    • Work like sway bars to stabilize your OEM springs and keep them from twisting
    • Compensate for windy conditions, wind turbulence from big rigs, and weight shifts while cornering
    • Lift your truck when you are carrying a heavy load and prevent bottoming out
  • Adjust automatically to your payload
    • Rollers on each end of the SuperSprings activate when the OEM springs flex under load
    • Rollers deactivate when OEM springs aren't under load
  • Customizable - the shackles attaching the SuperSprings provide several options for installation
    • Choose a setting that increases load support and ride height for constant heavy loads or to compensate for minor spring fatigue in an older automobile
    • Choose a setting that maintains the original factory ride conditions and minimizes effect on unloaded ride quality and height
    • Choose a medium setting that balances support, height and ride comfort
  • Install easily - bolt on above your existing factory springs with no drilling required
    • Because factory springs set above the axle, an additional mounting kit is included for installation
  • Require no maintenance - no tubing or air pressure to monitor or adjust like air springs
  • Extend the life of brakes, tires, and factory suspension
  • Made in the USA

Specs:

  • Weight capacity: 950 lbs
    • SuperSprings will not increase your vehicle's weight-carrying capacity
  • U-bolt length: 4"
  • Limited Lifetime warranty
  • 30-Day satisfaction guarantee

SuperSprings diagram of roller and shackle system for extra leaf spring

These additional leaf springs add support and sway control to your existing OEM suspension. Just bolt on SuperSprings over your existing factory springs, and they automatically work when you need them. As the factory spring flexes, a roller at each end of the beefy helper spring reacts to engage the helper spring and to provide extra support. The springs help to better distribute cargo weight throughout your existing suspension, channeling that weight to the points on the frame that are designed to support heavy loads.

SuperSprings leaf spring installed on a Ford vehicle

Placing these leaf springs above your factory springs helps to keep your OEM springs from twisting, so the SuperSprings act like a sway bar, reducing the body roll that makes driving more difficult and dangerous. With these helper springs, driving is safer and easier when it's windy, when your vehicle is rocked by a passing semitruck and when cornering. The springs help to reduce sway by up to 30 percent. SuperSprings also allow more wheel travel in the rear suspension when they are under load, so they maintain traction and ride comfort better than rubber or polyurethane bumpers. That means they're great for drivers who frequently tow.

Truck before SuperSpringsTruck after SuperSprings

You can also customize the level of support provided by SuperSprings. For most models, the shackles that attach the helper leaf springs to your existing leaf springs have several installation options:

  • For greater support and ride height when your suspension is under a constant load or if you have an older automobile with some spring fatigue, install the helper springs using the upper bolt holes
  • To maintain the factory ride and reduce the effect on your ride height, install using the lower bolt holes
  • To balance support, height and ride comfort, install using the upper hole on one end and the lower hole on the other

SuperSprings are a maintenance-free, low-cost alternative to air spring systems, which require constant monitoring and air pressure adjustment. These helper leaf springs respond automatically to the load you carry, so there is no crawling under your truck to adjust them. You'll also reduce wear and tear on your suspension, brakes and tires, which saves you money. The bolt-on installation means that they are easy to fit - no drilling required.

This suspension stabilizer kit is perfect for trucks towing fifth wheels, campers and gooseneck trailers.

SuperSprings diagram of springs set above and below the axle

An additional mounting kit is included for installation with factory springs that set above the axle.

For vehicles with factory leaf springs that set above the axle, this mounting kit ensures that SuperSprings operate silently when the vehicle isn't loaded. When factory springs set below the axle, the axle itself serves as a fulcrum for the helper leaf springs. However, for vehicles that have OEM springs that set above the axle, the 2-inch brackets in the mounting kit act as fulcrum points on the underside of the SuperSprings. Furthermore, the shackles at the ends of the helper springs hold them in place and pivot as the load is transferred to the SuperSprings. Because there is minimal preload tension in the installed SuperSprings, you get a quieter ride.

2013 Ford F-150

Superspring purchase was right on the mark. Gave George J. all the info on my truck, rv and what I was experiencing. He suggested the SSA5MTKT springs that they should take care of my problem. I installed them in 45 minutes, hooked to my rv and made a pull. I was able to pull at 65 and 70 mph with minimal bouncing and rocking. An increase of 1" in loaded ride height and 10-15 mph was perfect. Thanks George J. and the staff at Etrailer.com

easy to install, hope they work as good as advertised and installed. will find out soon

Installing these on a 2020 F250 was easier than I thought it would be. I was able to get the springs on whit the center piece and the front shackle bolted without jacking up the truck. I had to jack the frame up a few inches on each side to get the back shackle bolt through. I put the shackle bolts through the bottom holes since I only need the extra support when I tow. I recommend air / power tools for the shackle nuts and it doesn’t hurt using them for the center bracket u bolts. They are lock nuts and they have a long way to run on for each bolt. I did have to bend my parking brake cable hangar out a bit for one of the shackle bolts to clear the cable. The truck seems to sit a little higher in the back. Maybe an inch or so. The ride empty seemed the same except it felt like it didn’t roll quite as much when turning. Rolling over a lip at the end of our driveway the extra stiffness was noticeable, however. I won’t know how well they really work until I get my fifth wheel hooked up.

The Super Springs work great! I pull a 8,500# trailer with a hitch weight of 950# with a 2004 GMC Sierra 1/2 Ton. The truck pulls fine but even with an equalizer hitch still had some sag. The Super Springs were easy to install and leveled the rig. After a year everything still works great.

by:

No issues with install on a 2023, E350 Class C motorhome.
After chalking the front wheels, I used two 3 ton floor jacks with 13” 6x6 blocks just behind the springs to lift the frame and rear tires off the ground to remove the wheels. For safety, 3 ton jack stands were put under the axles during spring installation
After installing the springs per manufacturer instructions, two 1/2” x 10” pieces of all thread with drilled flat bar were used to compress the front end spring.
With the least amount of preload it raised the back a good inch.
The 800# trailer tongue weight will be the next test to see if more preload is needed for a level ride height.

The kit looks really good but I can’t figure out how to install. Enclosed are two photos showing my van suspension and the parts your sent. The instructions do not show my van with only one spring. Can you advise?????????????? Thanks.

by:

Installed on a 2016 Toyota Tundra. I pull a 28 foot aluminum frame utility trailer. Hauls like a 3/4 ton with super spring. Rides like 1/2 ton without load. I have put 1 ton load on truck with no trailer and the truck drove fine. The front of truck at tires rose 1/2 inch. Installation requires the frame to be lifted off the axel.at rear of vehicle. I like this system better than air shocks as there is no adjustment after installation. I would purchase again.

I got this to prevent bottoming out my truck when towing our travel trailer. Won't know for sure if this actually works until we load up. Having said that, the instructions provided with this are poor and talking with Supersprings tech support was frustrating. As mentioned elsewhere, you will need two "C" clamps to pre-load the spring and I wound up fabricating a 3" extension bracket for the brake lines; neither of which were mentioned in the instructions. I also removed the wheels to provide working space and air tools are definitely the way to go. On my '13 Tundra, the distance between the stock spring pack straps is 40" the same as the distance between the eyes on the Superspring. I was advised that the spring is mounted off-center to avoid conflict with the stock spring straps; however this in not mentioned in the instructions. This placed the Superspring about 4" forward of the center of the axel instead of centered on the axel. (see photos) This seems counterintuitive to me but we'll see. This added 1.5" in height to the rear of the truck. It took me 4 hours to install by my self, including time to fabricate the brake line extensions and dealing with Supersprings staff twice on the phone. During the second call, the tech mentioned that they get a lot of phone calls for Tundra installs, indicating to me that they already know there are issues with the product and instructions. In retrospect, I would look for a new spring pack if I was doing this again. Hopefully my suspicions are unfounded but I'm hanging on to the box just incase. Etrailer was great with the best price anywhere and quick shipping.

This was by far the easiest mod I have made to my 2019 Ford Super Duty King Ranch! Only took 45 minutes start to finish. Didn't even take the wheels off. Took some pressure off of the springs by lifting the rear end a little using the trailer hitch. Used the bottom holes on both ends and only raised the rear of the body 1 inch. Great product!

by:

Added these springs to my 2500 Silverado to prepare for a slide in camper. They made quite a difference. I did it myself, but two people would be easier. The ride is naturally a little stiffer when empty, but that's the trade off.

by:

Product worked as described. Shipping was quick (etrailer used "air" to my state, then on UPS truck)
Easy to install, not sure why they included 2 sets of polyurethane blocks (only one set fit my truck)
Don't notice any ride difference when set at lowest setting. Raised truck approximately 3/4". East to readjust for more preload if needed.
Combined these Super Springs with Timbren load handlers. So far so good.
Great improvement over stock while maintaining ride quality.

by:

My sales rep was professional and know exactly what I needed. I also needed fast delivery of the auto parts I ordered and they arrived right on time.

by:

i have these on a couple of trucks and they work great.more reliable than air bags

by:

E-trailer agent James helped find trailer tow package that fit my 2011 Ford Transit Connect and provided appropriate install video. You're a huge help James. The install went smoothly without a hitch (lol).

by:

Great product, very clear instructions. I really appreciated the stickers on each spring showing the correct orientation, that took all of the guess work out of it.

Thanks Supersprings for making a great kit and confirming the product would work with the airbags I had installed.

by:

This helped immensely with the wondering in the steering of my e350. The shop that I had install it has been recommending this to their customers

by:

Pretty sweet. Immediate and noticeable improvement for my sprinter conversion. Disappointed I waited so long to install.

by:

These springs improved the ride considerably , less roll on corners with the slide in camper on and wheel hop on rough roads . In general the handling was much improved.

by:

I am 100% pleased with etrailer...received wrong suspension because of manufacturer's misrepresentation...Tiffany at etrailer corrected everything...sent a prepaid UPS label to send it back...sold me the proper stabilizer springs...and gave me 100% credit back on the wrong purchase...these people are true to their word and I recommended them to everyone...P.S. today I installed the new stabilizers and they work like a charm...and...I talked to Tiffany on Monday the 9th...received the new stabilizers on Wednesday the 11th and installed them on Thursday the 12th...10 thumbs up to Tiffany and etrailer...thanks,

by:

SuperSprings were a great addition to our van. Sway control improved immediately with the SuperSprings. The process to install SuperSprings was moderately challenging but my son and I got them installed at home. Purchasing a set of C-clamps made it possible. Definately worth their price!

by:

Had a pro install them to the center hole like Manufacturer suggest, rides a little firmer which I like not sloppy, Have not towed yet but looking forward to it! Great products and fast shipping.

by:

I wasn't expecting them today, Very fast delivery. I can now get the customer back on the road faster because of the quick delivery. Thank You for the prompt service!

by:

Overall, the installation of the SuperSprings kit went pretty well. The instructions sent with the kit were not all that clear, but the info on etrailer's website saved the day. Can't wait to put the camper back on the truck and see how it rides!

  • Recommended Rear Suspension Enhancement for Maintaining Smooth Ride on 2016 Ram 1500
I do have a couple great solutions for you, however the SuperSprings Suspension Stabilizer and Sway Control Kit # SSA5MTKT that you referenced will not fit the rear suspension of your 2016 Ram 1500. There isn't a system similar to this that will work on your truck. For an alternative from SuperSprings that will work great I recommend the SumoSprings Solo Custom Helper Springs # SSR-307-47, which will replace the factory bump stops to provide better support when under load. The air suspension in your 2020 Jeep Grand Cherokee isn't working properly with your weight distribution system and its working in contrast to it. That's why its lifting your front end up and causing the uneasiness. Weight distribution systems are typically not recommended to be used with factory air systems because they are auto leveling. • Comparing Timbrens an Air Bag Suspension Enhancement for 2012 GMC Sierra 2500
If ride comfort is the goal I'd recommend air bags over the Timbrens for a couple reasons. One being that Timbrens are notorious for being the harshest option and secondly because with air bags you get option to add as much air pressure as it takes to get the exact amount of support needed. With Timbrens it's a one-size-fits-all scenario. The best choice then is the Firestone Ride Rite kit part # F2709 which has the highest quality air bags available and is a custom fit for your 2012...

For that you'll want the Firestone kit part # F2709 for your 2018 Chevy Silverado 2500HD. Then to make maintaining the air pressure in the bags easily you'd want the compressor kit part # F2097. • What Would Cause Trailer Sway That Starts at 55 Miles Per Hour
The kind of sway/bouncing that you described right at 55 miles per hour is due to improper trailer loading nearly every single time. You want to have your tongue weight equal to 10-15 percent of the total trailer weight otherwise you will get sway. What you need to do is move the weight of as much cargo as you can forward in your trailer so that you can get your tongue weight higher. Doing so will get rid of the sway. • How to Reduce Sway When Tandem Towing 2 Trailers
Tandem towing, towing one trailer with another trailer, is intrinsically more challenging than towing a single trailer. Any sway occurring in the first trailer (the 5th wheel) tends to get transmitted to the second trailer.
