Rear Suspension Support

Towing or hauling a heavy load can cause rear sag as your factory suspension compresses under the weight of the load. This means that the rear axle is trying to support not only the extra load but also the weight of your vehicle. And because there is less weight on your front axle, your front tires make less contact with the road, which causes problems with traction, steering, and braking. SumoSprings upgrade your vehicle's factory suspension to level your vehicle, improve driving performance, and keep your ride comfortable.

Installed spring when it is not compressed

SumoSprings provide progressive load control - the more you load them, the stiffer they become. With a lighter load, the springs will compress easily for soft engagement and a less bumpy ride. The closed-cell urethane material allows for smooth contact between the springs and your vehicle. And the springs act like a shock absorber to dampen road vibration.

Installed spring when it is compressed

The springs can also compress by as much as 80 percent to support a heavy rear load and to help your factory suspension bear up under the load. This evens out the weight, which levels your vehicle and ensures that your front tires are making better contact with the road. A level ride means that you have improved driving control, ensures safe headlight aim, and helps to minimize sway. The springs also support your factory suspension, which helps prevent sagging and reduces bottoming out.

The springs work independently from one another to support each side of your vehicle. This action helps to reduce body roll when you make a sharp turn. This also helps compensate for an off-center load.

Durable, Custom-Fit Springs

These microcellular urethane springs are tough. They resist abrasion, oil, salt, and UV rays that can more quickly wear out other springs, and they perform well in temperatures ranging from -25 F to 200 F (-33 C to 93 C).

SumoSprings compress vertically with minimum expansion to the sides, so they won't be damaged by nearby mechanical parts and they fit safely into tighter spots. And unlike air springs, SumoSprings require no maintenance or adjustment.

The helper springs are custom designed to fit your vehicle, and they install easily - no drilling required.

These springs are amazing! They helped tremendously pulling my landscape trailer with all my mowers. I picked up a tractor impliment that I would normally bring a trailer for, but decided to put these springs to the test. Couldn't believe how good my truck rode and handled with 780lbs at the rear of my bed! These springs have exceeded all expectations.
I will say that I initially put the spacer, but found it effected my ride to much so I pulled it. Afterwards it rides like stock.

by:

Made huge difference. Don’t have sag in back when trailer hooked up stays level.

by:

I was impressed with this product, my truck had 3"of drop with my truck camper, after installing summo springs it was 1 3/8. My only suggestion is a 1/4" longer bolt for use with large spacer.

by:

The product was great, however the installation instructions were lacking some details.

@Steve We're glad to hear that!!

by:

These are ok when used in temperatures above freezing point. Once the temp drops to 30-20F, these are horrible. It's like having bricks in the back instead of "springs". They do advertise these to operate in -25F, but I am pretty sure at that point your are going to lose your truck bed if you hit a small pot hole.

2020 Chevrolet Silverado 1500

My mechanic recommended SumoSprings for use in beefing up the rear suspension of my Silverado to better handle towing of my new travel trailer. I researched the product specs and consumer reviews and was impressed with what I saw. The SumoSprings were easy to install and I am so very pleased with the performance. I confidently offer my highest recommendation of this product as well as the timely and efficient way eTrailer handled my order.

by:

As advertised very easy to install these Sumo Springs on my 21GMC 1500. I only installed the plate not the 1” spacer. I tow an RV and expect the ride to be more balanced and able to carry more “stuff”. Ride after install is still smooth but on larger bumps I can notice stiffness. Very satisfied right now

by:

Work as described. Eliminated tail sag. Easy to install.

by:

I installed this product on a 2020 Silverado 1500 HD crew cab 4x4... TRUCK doesn't sqaut or sag at all with 4,000 # trailer hooked up . Or weight in the bed 1200# ( quad n misc, camping equip. And still delivers an excellent 1/2 ton Chevy ride full or empty . 30 - 45 min install ...

by:

Install was easier than expected hardest part was removing and reinstalling tires. Only removed them because of limited space in my garage. I used all spacers provided, truck handles like a sports car. Would recommend these springs to eveyone.

by:

The springs work perfectly to eliminate the rear end of my GMC Sierra sagging when pulling our camper.

Super easy to install on my 2021 trailboss. Haven't towed with them yet do we will see. I added the 1" spacer. May end up taking it out. Only half inch of space.

Delivery received as I was told , have not installed them yet

After going through the first winter with SumoSprings installed on my 2020 GMC At4, 1500 I would not recommend them for anyone who lives in a state that the temperature gets below 20 degrees. I live in SW Montana and for 6 months of the year our daily temperatures are below freezing. When the Sumosprings are frozen they act like a brick. Whenever I hit any bump in the road it sounds and feels like the box of my truck is going to fall off.

by:

Very easy to install. All you need is a jack. Jack stands , 10 mm and 17 mm sockets…I did mine in the driveway in 30 minutes
It did stiffen the ride slightly , but that is to be expected to gain extra load capacity…. I have not pulled my trailer yet.. but will post again as soon as I do

Chevrolet

I have had these for one year on my Chevy Traill Boss. Absolutely love and wouldn’t hesitate to install again. My truck suspension is softer than other Chevys and I hated the squat when carrying loads, even lighter ones (500lbs). With the sumo springs, it’s not an issue. My truck squats less with 1500lbs in the bed with them than it did with 500lbs without. Ride quality is unaffected. Install was extremely easy. Floor jack and basic hand tools took me 20 minutes max.

by:

I put these on to help with towing sag pulling a Travel Trailer. They did help but I did not like the ride made it to ruff when hitting ruff road like pot holes or the bump going on to a bridge. So I took them off and put on a set of Roadmaster active suspension. And I like them much better great ride with them towing and when not towing. So if you want a quick fix at a budget price go with the Sumo Springs if you want a good ride spend the extra and get the RAS.

by:

Easy to install, worked as intended. I used the spacer to have less sag.

Joe

5/3/2023

The springs did not provide me with enough sag reduction, even using the one inch shim. In the cold weather The truck sags more. I had to remove the sumo springs and get air bags.

by:

Work as they should. Takes minutes to install and uninstall. Highly recommend

by:

when I purchased my truck this was the first upgrade I did. Easy to install much bigger than the OEM bump stops. Keeps my truck level while towing my camper.

Todd

4/16/2022

I would say it is doing what it is supposed to do. No sag. I feel better knowing they are there and know they work.

by:
2022 GMC Sierra 1500 Limited

They were good if you’re just driving around or have a light load but if you’re hauling a heavier load, like a 7000 pound fifth wheel camper, they are basically useless. I experienced intense sway of my camper on a 4000 mile trip. Go with the air bags.

by:

Not the best solution in cold weather.

Chevrolet Silverado 1500

Since I've installed the SumoSprings my 1500 doesn't sag in the back when I'm towing my trailer. They were very easy to install in less than 45 minutes. It actually wouldn't have taken me that long if I jacked up the passenger side higher. My only knock is the ride isn't as soft when not towing so that is my reason for not giving 5 stars.

  • Best Option for Addressing a Squatting Rear End on a 2016 Chevy Silverado 1500
SumoSprings would definitely be the solution I would recommend for your squatting concern. The SumoSprings Solo Custom Helper Springs - Rear Axle item # SS45MR have a 2,800 lbs capacity which would eliminate that carolina lift look you get when your bed is loaded. These springs have progressive load control, which means that the springs compress according to the weight of your cargo. The Timbren Suspension Enhancement System part # T28MR and SumoSprings Solo Custom Helper Springs part # SS45FR are both great options for a 2021 GMC Sierra 1500 AT4. I recommend the SumoSprings as they don't typically ride as rough as the Timbrens but the Timbrens also offer more support. They are both however bolt-on, no maintenance options. Please note, a leveling kit won't warranty any additional spacers to be added to the rear suspension enhancements. These kits are also not compatible...

  • Comparing SumoSprings and Timbren Springs For a 2023 GMC Sierra 1500
Personally I feel the SumoSprings Solo Custom Helper Springs # SS45FR are a better option for your 2023 GMC Sierra 1500. These are not as stiff as the Timbren Springs # T28MR and will not cause such a harsh ride when not hauling additional weight or under light loads. These particular SumoSprings are rated for 1,500lbs which is more in line with the payload capacity for your Sierra. The Timbrens are rated for 8,600lbs which is far more than your truck would ever be able to carry.

I honestly just recommend going with the higher rating. SumoSprings is known for retaining the great OEM ride quality of trucks so having the extra capacity just means you'll get more support if you ever need it. The lower rated option rides smoother whereas the higher rated option provides more support. The correct one will come down to what you're towing or hauling.
