SumoSprings or Timbrens for a 2024 Chevy Silverado 1500 4x4

Question:

Looking to get either sumo or timbrens for my 2024 Chevy 1500 ltz 4x4 3.0 Duramax. Our heaviest trailer is a 31 ft camper that weighs about 7500 loaded. Advice appreciated.

Hey Dustin, thanks for reaching out!

I will recommend SumoSprings over Timbrens all day everyday because they are much more forgiving when the vehicle is unloaded. We've actually joked around here about how the Timbren kits will either give you back problems or fix your back problems because of how rigid they make the unloaded ride quality.

The SumoSprings Solo Custom Helper Springs # SS45FR have a 1,500 lb weight rating which will be great for the tongue weight of your 7,500 lb trailer. If you jump to the 2:30 minute mark of the linked install video you'll see the improvement that this kit will give you.

One thing to keep in mind is that a properly loaded trailer (10 - 15% tongue weight) and a weight distribution system are the first lines of defense when it comes to a lever trailer setup. If you don't already have one then I recommend checking out the Blue Ox TrackPro # BLU77FR which has a good tongue weight range for a 7,500 lb trailer.

@DustinL You can use either the Blue Set # SS65FR rated for 1,000 lbs or the Black Set # SS45FR rated for 1,500 lbs - I just recommended using the black set because of the higher weight capacity. Since these won't start engaging until they are needed you'll get all of the support and none of the harsh ride that you'd see with Timbrens.
