The first number in the bolt pattern is the number of bolt holes. The second number denotes the diameter, in inches, of the circle on which the bolt holes sit.
On wheels with an even number of bolt holes, measure from the center of one bolt hole to the center of the hole directly across from it. (Example: 8 on 6-1/2 means 8 bolt holes with 6-1/2" from the center of one hole to the center of another on the opposite side.)
To determine the bolt-circle diameter on wheels with an odd number of bolt holes, measure from the center of any bolt hole to the point halfway between the two bolt holes directly across from the first. (Example: 5 on 4-1/2 means 5 bolt holes with 4-1/2" measured to a point halfway between the opposite bolt holes.)
Measuring the distance (D) from the center of one bolt hole on the wheel to the center of a bolt hole right next to it can also help to determine the bolt pattern.

Kevin: Today we're gonna take a look at the pre-greased trailer idler hub assembly for 3500 pound axles. This has a 5 on 4 1/2 inch bolt pattern. This idler hub is designed for use on the trailer idler axles. It fits 3500 pound axles with the number 84 spindles. This one is sort of unique because it is a pre-greased idler hub, in other words it's very easy to install. There's no need to pack the bearings because what happens is the bearings will come fully packed with the grease and if you'll even notice the grease seal is installed on the hub on the back there. This trailer idler hub assembly will include everything shown here.
Again, inside the hub it will already have the bearing races pre-installed, both the inner and outer bearing will be installed and already packed with grease, the grease seal as I showed you would be installed in the back, and the grease cap is included, and the 5 lug 1/2 inch lug nuts to install your wheel and tire assembly to the hub. Again, the bolt pattern this is for is 5 on 4 1/2 inch bolt pattern. The inner bearing that is already pre-greased and installed would be part number L68149 and has an inner diameter of 1.378. The outer bearing again which would be pre-greased and packed ready to go and installed is part number L44649 and has a 1.063 inner diameter. The grease cap right here is a 1.988 phalange diameter that would go on the outside and then the 5 1/2 inch by 20 size lug nuts to hold your wheel and tire assembly to the hub. This idler hub is certified by USS80 standards and CSA which are the Canadian standards so basically when you go to install this on the spindle of your axle basically you will just remove these covers, front one and the back one, and then you'll just slide it onto the spindles, secure it with your nut and washer that you have on your axle and then just pop on your grease cap over that and then use your lug nuts to install the wheel and tire to your hub. Simple as that but that should do it for the review of the pre-greased trailer idler hub assembly for 3500 pound axles with the 5 on 4 1/2 inch bolt pattern..

Funny you should contact me about those hubs. I have not had occasion to use my trailer since i put those hubs on until just recently. During our move ( about 25 miles one way) i noticed that the diver side seemed to slip out a little at a time. I would tap it back in. On my last trip, it came off completely-buddy & cap-. I had to stop at local hardqare store and buy another. Other side is great, not sure what happened.
These hubs were the perfect option for me. I removed the old, cleaned the spindles and had both sides completed in 45 min with new wheel and tires included with a short pop up shower.
Excellent item for ease and speed.
It looked like the original hubs had never been serviced. I will consider these if i ever need to do this again.
I build custom trailers. I have been doing so for 50+ years. etrailer has consistently been the second cheapest supplier of axles, springs, hangers, hubs, and etc. that we have been able to locate. When you see the difference in quality that etrailer has you'll be buying the second cheapest too! These guys only offer one kind of quality - the EXCELLENT kind. Of the 8 or so trailers that I have in the road 24/7; 100% of them were made from etrailer components! Highly recommended!

Fit like a glove. Only issue was didn’t need four. One of the axles has brakes. I should have known that and ordered two hubs with brakes . Thanks for your help. Dan

Luckily this is still in the trailer box! Caps have kept debris out of the inside and its ready to run if a failure occurs.
