Draw-Tite Tested Tough

Draw-Tite Tested Tough

Draw-Tite's Tested Tough program provides testing standards far superior to those outlined by the Society of Automotive Engineers (SAE), the go-to source for engineering professionals.

Each Draw-Tite trailer hitch receiver undergoes extensive fatigue testing and static testing with the ball mount that is either supplied or recommended for use with that particular hitch, thus ensuring results that are applicable to real life use. Fatigue testing is also conducted on hitches rated for use with weight-distribution systems.

In addition, Draw-Tite performs static testing on a simulated automobile, as opposed to the rigid fixture used for SAE testing, resulting in a more true-to-life scenario.

Video Transcript for Trailer Hitch Installation - 2013 GMC Terrain - Draw-Tite

Today on our 2013 GMC Terrain, we will be installing the Draw-Tite MaxFrame Class 3 Trailer Hitch Receiver. Part number 76028. Here's what the hitch looks like once it's installed. As you can see, it's a nice, clean installation. The only thing that really sticks out is our class 3 2" receiver here, and a little bit of the frame on the body of the hitch. We have our standard 5/8" diameter hitch pin hole, in the back, and in front of that, we have a smaller hole, which is for a J-pin stabilization device, which you can purchase separately on our website.

What a J-pin stabilization device is for is to take some of that annoying shake, play, and rattle out of the device that's inserted into your receiver, if it doesn't already have an anti-rattle device built into it. Now this hitch has a 675 pound max tongue weight rating and a 4,500 pound gross trailer weight rating. Obviously, you'll want to consult with the owner's manual of your GMC Terrain, and see what the vehicle's actually rated for as far as capacity. Now for a few measurements to help choose any hitch-mounted accessories you may need, such as a ball mount, biker carrier, or a cargo rack, you're looking at about 14" from the ground to the top of the 2" receiver opening, and about 4" from the center of the 5/8" diameter hitch pin hole to the rearmost point on our back bumper. Now that we've gone over some of the features of our Draw-Tite class three hitch, we will show you how to install it. First thing we need to do is remove this cover here on our rear fascia.

Just push in on the tabs. Pull it towards us, and pull down. Now we're going to clean out our weld nuts. We're going to be using a tubing brush, part number 814092, available on our website. We'll spray a little bit of lubricant in there, and we're going to use our brush and run it on through.

Now this large access hole here on our frame inaudible 00:01:50 our vehicle, we need to enlarge it on either side. To do that, I'm just going to use a little cutting bit here on a rotary tool. Okay. Now that our large fascia plate slides in and out easily, we'll do the same on the other side. Now we'll take one of our carriage bolts, thread it under a pull wire, take our large anchor plate here, install it on the pull wire, and we'll feed our hardware into the frame now. Install the bolt first.

Then our bracket here. We'll drop it down. Take off our pull wire, we'll do the same on the other side. Now we'll take two of our conical tooth washers here. The teeth will face up towards the hitch, and the flat side will face down towards our nuts that we're going to secure our hitch up with. We'll raise it up. Get our hardware loosely started on either side. Okay. Good. Now we'll take one of our bolts here that's not a carriage bolt. Another conical tooth washer with the teeth facing up towards the hitch. We'll get it started on either side of the 2" receiver. Now we'll do our two here on the side of the frame rail. Push the hitch up. Get them started. Do the same on the other side. Okay, now we can start to tighten these up a bit. Okay, with our side bolts tightened down, we'll work on the two here. By our receiver. All right, now that we have our bolts by the receiver here tight, we'll tighten down these two here on the side. With all of our bolts tight, we'll torque them to spec. With all of our bolts now torqued down to manufacturer specifications found in the instructions, completes our installation of the Draw-Title Class 3 MaxFrame Trailer Hitch Receiver, part number 76028, on our 2013 GMC Terrain.

Highly recommend this product. No problems at all. Solid. We have had our kuat bike rack on it, and I also attach straps to hold the canoe on the top of vehicle. Highly recommend.

The hitch receiver fits and I was able to install it myself torqued to spec. Tricky but doable. I was also happy with the delivery time. However, the box was damaged and there was some minor scuffing to the paint on several of the protruding corners of the hitch receiver. Looking forward to moving some stuff around!!!

The product arrived in two days. I liked the custom fit for my vehicle to facilitate installation. I installed the hitch by myself and the process took a total of four hours including the wiring, setup and cleanup. I installed the hitch in my driveway without a jack or jack stands. The included directions were clear and concise. I will be using the hitch to pull a small trailer for home project materials. Mulch, top soil, plants and maybe moving furniture for friends etc. Adding the hitch allows me to not have to ask a friend to use his vehicle and trailer when I have a need. This way I can operate on my own schedule since I retired in Oct. 2017. I would suggest that if one lives in an area where there is frequent snow and the roads are treated with rock salt to be diligent about cleaning out the pre-threaded holes where the hitch mounts. I actually had to run a tap through the threads. The wire brush method did not do the trick. Overall I look ahead to years of service from the hitch and am glad I bought it! Customer service was exceptional (Thanks Paula S) and I would recommend etrailer.com to my friends and family!

Ive used the trailer hitch a few times and everything worked out fine. I dont own a trailer but rent one when I need to. All the hook up and wiring connections fit the rentals.

I installed this by myself yesterday right after I received it. I used a jack stand as a helper. Everything aligned perfect. Biggest problem was installing the nuts and washers at the receiver. Not much room in there. Secured the washers in position with masking tape, then started the nuts on the bolts, removed tape before securing nuts. Overall, an easy install with no bad surprises.
I replaced a full size pickup with this Equinox. Needed something to haul stuff like lumber, building supplies, appliances, etc. I will be towing a small 4x8 trailer to transport items that won't fit in my car.
I could have got away with a lighter rated hitch, as my car is only rated to tow a maximum of 1500 pounds. but I like the extra mounts on the hitch.

Excellent hitch!

2015 Chevrolet Equinox

I received the ordered hitch for my car right on time, but the box had taken a real beating where the flanges that attach to the frame rails had broken through the box
Since I am by myself I needed to review the video that eTrailer had on the internet.Very good but I noted that when it came time to attach the hitch to the car the demo shows two people making the install!. wow now what do I do to get the hitch into place without losing the bolts back up inside the frame at the four points that the bolts just hang in place. So, I figured out a way to balance the hitch on a floor jack( see picture) to slowly and careful to position the hitch up in position. Since I was nervous about losing the four free hanging carriage bolts back up inside the frame rail and bumper I left the pull wires on each of the carriage bolts and laced the wires through the hitch in each of the four location. When the hitch was up sufficient to pull the carriage bolts through the hitch four bolt location and then remove each pull wire as I was able to have sufficient bolt thread to attach the conical washers and Hex nuts before removing the floor jack and tighten ing the four carriage bolts to snug the hitch into the final position in order to install the two metric bolt on each outside of the existing weld nuts in the frame rail. All went well except the bolt in the lower position on the frame rail drivers side appears to have hit something in side the frame rail and was not able to be treaded completely into the tight position. When removing the m12x1.75 x 45 bolt the thread showed the roll over of the threads (see picture). Off to Ace's Hardware and a new bolt m12x1.75 x 30 to solve the problem. Over all the hitch fit just as designed and I am very pleased with the produce, and proved to myself that I could do the install by myself! Where there is a will there is a WAY !

Robert, thank you for your review. Over time grime can get into the weld nuts in your frame and harden over time. This will make it seem like the bolts supplied with your hitch are too large for your weld nuts. The good news is the weld nuts can be easily cleaned out. We do not recommend changing out the hardware. I have attached a link that will help you.

The 3111-1base plate for my Saturn fit very well and can't be seen when the arms are removed. Wonderful product, and I am extremely happy it.
Installation of the trailer receiver was very easy, fit like a glove, and is very solid. It took about 35 minutes. Instructions were very easy to follow. Great job Etrailer!. And thanks to George from Etrailer for the follow up email. You do a super job.

I searched the internet to put a hitch on my 2016 Chevy Equinox and found an instructional video from eTrailer.com where they installed on my exact car. I decided to go with eTrailer.com because they answered all my questions and because of the video-I support businesses that go the extra mile with these videos.

Shipping was quick and well tracked, however, the box was flimsy and the one end of the hitch had come out of the box side and the ball mount could have easily come out of that hole during shipping. If I were eTrailer.com I'd charge an extra couple of bucks for more sturdy boxes-people will still buy as eTrailer is a well-trusted brand and this would overcome a lot of the negative reviews you'll see on their site about this shipping issue in their own reviews :-)

I installed the hitch by myself (definitely recommend help as two people holding it up to the frame makes attaching 100% easier) in about 45 minutes total (out of the box, read instructions, review video again and installation complete). All hardware went on with no issues.

Great quality hitch! I also bought the lesser expensive wiring assembly because most recent equinox's come hitch ready with pre-wired assembly in the left side compartment-snap and done.

Picked up a new trailer at Home Depot within days and drove 5 feet and the clacking was horrible. I had always had a welded hitch before buying a hitch that took a ball mount. I really thought something was wrong and when I searched the internet that night it turns out this is very common. However, all you need is some sort of hitch "silencing" device. The number of options will drive you mad but I went with the Roadmaster Quiet Hitch and it did the trick for much less than most of the other options. If I were eTrailer.com I'd have that as one of the RECOMMENDED add-ons and explanation why its super-worthy when customers are buying a hitch. Would have saved me the time and hassle of dealing with it later and the extra shipping charge for buying after the fact when I got free shipping for the other items the first time :-)

All in all, I'm super, super happy with my hitch, wiring assembly, ball mount, ball mount locking pin and the hitch silencer.

Buy with confidence from eTrailer.com

Toyota RAV4

I needed a good hitch for my Kuat bike rack and eTrailer made it easy to find and order a compatible one for my new vehicle. (2019 Toyota Rav4) I have installed hitches myself before and this specific installation was the easiest. I was initially worried about needing to drop the muffler per the instructions but following a few other reviews, I saw that wasn't necessary and I ended up being able to install it w/o dropping the muffler. Saved me time and hassle.
After a year of use, she is still going strong and getting me out to where I'm going.
Thank you etrailer for always supplying top-of-the-line products to us.

From the time I placed my order to when I received my items, the whole process was pretty easy and quick.
After watching the online video on how to install the hitch several times, the day finally came to install it.
Had it not been for the snug fit, it definately makes the installation easier to have a second pair of hands! Luckily for me, since the hitch fit quite snuggly onto the frame of my Equinox, I was able to practically wedge it in place and it stayed up.
I would say that the most difficult part of this installation was feeding the hardware fro the "front 2 bolts" through the bumper. On my first try on the driver side I lost the hardware 1/2 inside the bumper cavity. At first I paniced and decided to take a break. I proceeded to install the passenger side hardware and took my time and some extra jiggling to get the hardware to pass though. Luckily there was extra "feed" wire and I was able to use a magnet to retrieve the lost hardware. On my second attempt I was succesfull and was able to button up the install. Total install time was less than an hour!! Everything fit up nicely and worked like it should have. I'm impressed with how easy this was in install and how well the hitch fit the vehicle! Practically plug & play!!
It really is as easy as it looked on the video!
I was concerned at first because the box received a bit of damage from shipping but all the hardware was secured to the hitch and nothing was lost during shipping!! See attached pics.
Once installed, this hitch isn't going ANYWHERE!! Very securely mounted and just a solid product! It practically becomes one with the vehicle. It will outlive the vehichle!

Provided bolts for the hitch to frame rail to the factory mounting points did not fit. Had to purchase the correct bolts adding additional cost to the hitch set up. Contacted etrailer and they said to try cleaning out the factory point that the bolts go into, after running a wire brush through I was able to tread a tap in and it was a completely different thread pitch than the provided bolts were. After getting the right bolts I was able to use the hitch and have been happy since.

etrailer,

The overview buying experience
from etrailer was excellent. The product descriptions and videos were exactly what I ordered and helped a lot with installation. I also liked how etrailer took the initiative to send me an email the day the products were delivered. The only reason I didn't rate this product as excellent was because the wire that feed the hex bolts through the bumper was a little short so I had to extend it by taping a clothes hanger to it. Also, the included paper instructions were a little hard to read, because so many different makes and models were crammed into one page of instructions. It wasn't clear on how to install the two hex bolts, and small blocks, that were furthest from the hitch. Overall I was very pleased with the product and recommend it to everyone.

I shopped around for a trailer hitch for my Chevrolet Equinox but wasn’t happy with my search until I came across etrailer.com. We ordered what I needed with the wiring harness and could not have been more satisfied! We watched the installation video, all parts were included and total installation was about 1 hour! We highly recommend etrailer and will order items in the future without a doubt!

I would highly recommend this company. I found tje site after doing a google search for hitches that fit my 2016 Chevy Equinox. After looking at the videos for the hitch and the wire harness, I was impressed how simple you’re techs made it look. I order the products and was happy with getting free shipping. I did get one hiccup, which was not your company fault. The large spacers were supposed to be 1and 1/2 inches wide but where actually wider. So I was not able to slide spacers into the slot in the frame. I called and spoke to Kim P and she sent me out some new spacers. I got them on a Saturday morning in the mail and later that day, I was successful with the hitch and harness install. Then, Sunday, I get a call from Kim asking me if I got the spacers and how was the install. That is great customer service.

This appears to be a very strong and well made hitch. Shipping was prompt. All necessary hardware was included in the shipment. All holes aligned properly with the existing holes in the frame of my vehicle. The instructions that came with the hitch are inadequate, but all problems were solved when I went back and watched an installation video. I am using this hitch to replace a smaller one. Therefore I encountered no problems with corrosion to the threads of the vehicle frame, since they previously had bolts threaded tightly in place. I did encounter difficulty mounting the hardware that required insertion of back plates into the frame. The directions that came with the new hitch and hardware are minimal, and essentially nothing more than diagrams - and the diagram showing how to insert the back plates was incorrect for my vehicle.. After a lot of time and frustration I went back and watched an installation video for my specific vehicle on the etrailer.com website. This was very helpful, and I redid my install easily, successfully, and quickly.

2017 Chevrolet Equinox

The hitch installed quite easily, I looked at the hitch online a week before I bought it and watched the install video. The video is very good and it explains how to guide the carriage bolts through the frame if your vehicle doesn't have the weld nuts in the frame already. I also bought the Curt 56094 T-Connector wiring kit, worked like a charm, no splicing required and all the wires run down underneath the headlight to the bumper. The only bad thing about this T Connector was they didn't give you long enough, nor enough Zip ties to tie up the wire harness. Just go to the store and get some 8"-9" ties at least and cut off the excess.

Great product..Watch the videos this site has provided and installation is simple.. Only hassle was existing weld nuts had some rust since my Equinox is a 2014. So prep older vehicles and you should be fine..

Love the how-to-videos!! Great products, good prices, and fast shipping!! This is my second hitch I have ordered from them!! Tested it out pulling my four wheeler around town right after I put it on!! The wiring harness I got from them also worked great!! Installed on my 2016 Chevy Equinox!

A lot has been written about the trailer hitches and I advise you to read the reviews and they're extremely helpful. I've added some pictures and just have to say that I'm extremely pleased with the quality, fit, and finish of this hitch! I do want to note that the extremely tight tolerance on the plate that is used with the piano wire (see pic) may seem like it's not going to fit, but a the little tap with a hammer and it will slide right in. I have a 2016 Chevy Equinox LTZ AWD with dual exhaust and a V6 if that helps.

by:
2015 GMC Terrain

Install was really easy. The instructions that come with the hitch are about worthless. I used them to make sure I had all the necessary parts and hardware and then used the install video to get an idea of the install process. If you have any sort of mechanical ability and the required tools it will take 30 min to install. I’d recommend torquing everything down after its fully installed, that’s just a good practice.

Pros: Easy install, no missing parts, looks factory, has a better cargo rating than other hitches of the same price
Cons: There was some minor issues with the powder coating. In spots I have bare metal and there appears to be sand trapped under the powder coat.

by:
2006 Pontiac Torrent

Good product. I haven't pulled a trailer with it yet. I work in a shop, have a fair number of tools and can borrow from others. Doing the install myself, I had to use a tap and home-made thread chaser to clean the threads of the welded horizontal nuts on the undercarriage. It is very difficult to properly torque the bolts once installed. Long story short, I highly recommend getting a professional to install this.

Excellent experience purchasing from this site. Super easy to navigate and purchase was flawless. Ordered a hitch on Monday, April 13th and received Wednesday, April 15th. Got the standard 5-7 day shipping and the night I ordered it I got an email from “George J” saying he prioritized my package and upgraded me to 3 day shipping at no cost to me. EXCELLENT customer service. Install of the hitch was a breeze. Took me a little longer to install because my pre-drilled and tapped holes were very rusty so I had to re-tap them before I installed new bolts. Absolutely nothing on etrailer's end. Came with all necessary hardware to install. All in all took about 45 minutes from start to finish to install and it looks great. Doesn’t stick out past the body and it’s made VERY nice. I will be recommending this to anyone who needs a hitch.

by:
2005 Saturn Vue

The hitch itself is very high quality and well made. Installation (with wiring harness also) took roughly an hour and a half because the provided bolts were just slightly too large so I had to make a quick trip to the local hardware store for the correct fit. Worth it though since it is by far the most cost effective class 3 you can by for an 05 saturn vue. Thank you for the good product and great price!

I installed the 76028 on a 2017 GMC terrain in 45 minutes with no problems.I cut out the access panel a little different than the instructions showed for a more hidden look. The ball mount locking pin and safety chains install with no problem with access panel cut as in the photo and give the hitch a clean hidden look.Would recommend this hitch for any one wanting to add a hitch to a GMC Terrain ,well built and easy to install!

The Draw-Tite Max-Frame Trailer Hitch Receiver # 76028 is your best choice for your 2017 GMC Terrain. This receiver has a 2" receiver opening that will accept a larger selection of bike racks.
