Video Transcript for Trailer Hitch Installation - 2009 Ford Focus

Today on this 2009 Ford Focus we are going to install part number 11319 from Curt. The first step involved is to lower the exhaust. It looks like on this particular model there is two rubber hangers to remove. One here and one towards the back. Spray that down with some lubricant remove it from the pipe. We will take a pry bar and push the rubber hanger off. We are going to spray down this hanger in the back with some lubricant and pry it off. There is really not much to pry against or anything to get a hold of this rubber hanger so we used a couple of wooden blocks to give us something to pry against will work fine. First off we have got to worry about this going back and forth. Put the block right here so when we pry it over to keep it from pulling everything that way and for something to pry against we will put this block here. 00:50

We are going to work with one of the side brackets now. On the driver side we are going to use our bracket to locate our hole in the frame. We are going to line up the two holes at the end and further up there is an existing hole in the frame that is covered up by the sheet metal. Basically we are going to drill the hole out or poke a hole, anything to just get through it to run our hardware out. We have found our hole. Lets run a 1/ 2 inch drill bit through there just to make it nice and neat. 01:15

It is time to install the hardware. We are going to take our bolt leader and we are going to put it in the hole and we are going to come out at the end of the frame back by the bumper. Our hardware that goes inside is going to be a one inch by three inch long block and we will push that up on to the wire and into the frame and then we will take our carriage bolt and thread that on. Pull it on through. Next what we are going to do is put on our side bracket and we are going to bolt that on loosely to our bolt. Leave that side alone. We just got done with the driver side, now we are going to go over to the passenger side and do the same exact thing again. 01:49

The bracket is going to look a little different from the driver side but it still bolts on with the same principle. We can start putting the hitch itself up on to the vehicle. There is two holes on the end of the frame. The top bolt gets the 7/ 16 hardware and the lower bolt gets the 3/ 8. We will start with the top bolt first. The bolt is going to get a flat washer on this side. It is going to go through the hitch. On this side of the sheet metal and then go through our bracket. We are going to leave it loose and lets do the bottom bolt. Our hardware is installed now we will snug them down and then torque them down as specified in the instructions. With our bolts torqued down lets reinstall our exhaust. We have got our vehicle off the lift. Lets get a couple of measurements off the hitch. From the ground to the top of the receiver tube opening is 12 inches and from the center of the hitch pin hole to the farthest edge of the bumper is going to be six inches. With that, that will finish our install of part number 11319 from Curt on this 2009 Ford Focus.

Great product. Super fast free shipping. Brackets probably should have been wrapped in cardboard instead of plastic because it scratched one. Not worried about it clearly. Didn’t lower the exhaust, but I had to trim the heat shield (out you could take it completely off). Happy happy happy took about 30 mins.

Hitch was great. Purchased it to be able to use a bike rack and the entire set up has worked very well for my college student. E-trailer has been great to work with over the years with great pricing and very helpful videos covering installation and set up of the various products I have purchased.

by:

Bought this a year ago. The trailer hitch fit perfectly and installed just like the online videos I watched showed. Probably took me an hour to install. Since then I've used it a few dozen times without a problem. It works just like it should.

by:

i like the trailer except for the poor manufacturing of the brass grease fittings. One broke off the first time i used it.

I have had this trailer hitch on my 2009 Ford Focus for about a year now. I also installed a wiring kit purchased from etrailer.com. The installation of both items went great! Actually I used install videos I found on the etrailer.com site and they were filmed using my exact vehicle. I have had absolutely no problems with either of these products. I have told others to check etrailer.com first for anything related to trailers.

After one year everything is working great. Still very impressed with your company.

1year review: Easy to follow install guide, tons of help available. Products fit perfectly and easily. Trust the product 100% and it has been great quality for the last year. I've taken bikes and other lightweight hauls with absolutely no worries.

2008 Ford Focus

I ordered a Curt trailer hitch for my 2008 Ford Focus so we could use our bike rack. It came within a week and was a perfect match for my car. I watched the video for my kit # and the instructions were spot on. It took less than 1/2 hour and the bike rack works well with no clearance problems. A superior product and great experience for me. Whoever invented that little coiled fishwire puller for installing the plates and bolts into the frame is a genius! If all of your hitches fit their applications like this, I would highly recommend using your products on all vehicles.

2011 Ford Focus

Hitch was on back order, but still had it within a week. Overall easy to install. Took longer to torque the bolts to spec than anything else since car was on the ground. Love the fact the Curt receiver is the only thing showing with this hitch, the rest is hidden. Wiring was very simply to install. Only wish it could be ran inside trunk rather than stuffed up behind bumper.

by:

Could not be happier. The kit was an exact fit for my 2011 Ford Focus as advertised and was a very easy install (having an extra set of hands however is helpful). Bought this so I could haul my dirt bike in a small trailer and I could not have been more satisfied with the quality and performance of this product! Already have another one in my cart for when I get my new vehicle next week! Would absolutely recommend this brand anytime to anyone.

Great hitch fits greatI looked at several hitches for my new Focus Coupe and this hitch tucks up tighter under the car than any other. This hitch fits perfectly and with the three piece design most of the hitch is out of sight, only the receiver portion is visible. The ordering process was simple and eTrailer shipped it quickly. Installation was straight forward and took me about 30 minutes. The direction tell you to lower the muffler to punch a 1/2 inch hole in the aluminum heat shield but I did it with the muffler in place. Just used a philips screw driver and tapped it with a hammer. This saves a good bit of time installing the hitch.

What a great place to buy a hitch. First, I was in need of a hitch for my 09 Ford Focus, and did a Google search. Well, Etrailer was open on Saturday and I made a call for a little info and to check stock. I spoke to a very informed lady named Sherry. She was great, and told me she had three different hitch's in stock.

I placed my order with her, and got a shipping Email a hour later. I ordered on Saturday, and UPS dropped it at my door on Tuesday. WOW, that was fast. Plus, free shipping and the best price I could find.

Thanks for the great price, great service, free shipping, and great sales people like Sherry to help me.

Very impressed with etrailer.com!! This was my 1st time using you guys and found searching for products very simple and you guys had the best prices. Everything was prompt and you guys even bumped my shipping so that I got the hitch in only 1 day's time! Outstanding service!!

I have not had a chance to install the hitch as of this review but I hope to do so tonight. Not expecting any issues. Thanks again etrailer.com!!

by:

Perfect fit, easy YouTube instructions. I chose the Curt over others based on the hitch is tucked up under the vehicle. And a good powder coat paint. I use it to haul our bike on a rack.

by:

everything was in the kit was so easy to instal read the directions and its sooooo simple

by:

Used to pull kayak on trailer with small car instead of pickup due to high gas prices. Works great so far.

by:

Great hitch! Installed in less time than stated....to be honest,it took less time to install the hitch than it did the wiring!! Thanks...will use again if I need any other towing products.

by:

That hitch is one of the best things that I have ever bought everything about the hitch was good.

by:
2010 Ford Focus

Hitch comes in 3 pieces so it was easy for me to put in by myself. Everything lined up as it should and was done in about 15-20 minutes including torqing it down. Video for installation was worth watching.

by:
Ford Focus

Because the design is three pieces, I think this made the installation a little easier for one person. Also, I like that it seems to be a little more hidden than some of the other choices for a Ford Focus.

by:
2009 Ford Focus

Everything needed to install the hitch was provided. The entire process including wiring took less than an hour. Product quality was excellent.

by:
2008 Ford Focus

The hitch was easy to install with fairly minimal tools. Perfect for towing the small loads I occasionally need to move with my car.

by:

On instructions it didn't explain bolt sizes or anything. If it said what bolt size went where that would be helpful

by:

Awesome product. Very well built.

by:

Works good. No issues with it.

by:

Everything was just as described. Easy to install. Fast shipping.

  • Could 2010 Ford Focus Tow Jet Ski Trailer with Curt Hitch
As long as the towing capacities of your 2010 Ford Focus (check owners manual) and the Curt hitch part # C11319 don't get exceeded you could tow a jet ski trailer. This hitch has a 2,000 lb trailer weight capacity and 200 lb tongue weight capacity. Typically jet ski trailers are much lighter than that. For a 1-7/8 inch ball mount you would want the part # C45571 or for a 2 inch ball mount part # C45572. For trailer wiring you then would want the part # 118457.

  • What Parts of Curt Trailer Hitch 11319 Are Visible on a 2008 Ford Focus
Once the Curt Class I Receiver Hitch, part # 11319 is installed, the receiver opening where the draw bar slides in will be situated just below the rear bumper. The receiver opening and consequently the drawbar will be visible. The cross tube would be pretty well concealed behind the bumper.

  • Is a Draw Bar Needed with Trailer Hitch for 2008 Ford Focus
A draw-bar or ball-mount is the shank or piece that slides into the hitch opening that allows a hitch ball to attach to. Basically the hitch is the portion that bolts to the frame of the vehicle and then the draw bar is the metal shank that slides into it with the ball attached to it. If you plan to tow a trailer you will need this. For a hitch the Curt part # C11319 that you referenced would be the correct fit. Then for a draw bar the recommended one is the # C45521. For a ball you'd...
