Missing hardware will definitely make installing more difficult. I will have our Customer Service team reach out to you.

Ease of installation a snap. Fit existing holes. Got lucky on arms that bolt to frame. Already had holes so no drilling.

1982 Jeep CJ-7

I can not review the performance of the Hitch yet because I have not used it for towing. I installed the hitch on my 1982 Cj7. The design and fabrication of the hitch is very nice. The installation was very straight forward. I did not have any issue during installation. This hitch receiver fit this challenging application very well. Thank you etrailer.com for the solution you provided for the CJ.

etrailer had exactly what I needed (complete trailer hitch) for my 1979 CJ-7 Jeep.

It was easy to order and shipped quickly. the hitch delivered in a couple of days.

by:
1984 Jeep CJ-7

Very well made, and it fit in this challenging application almost perfectly. However, I had to completely remove the exhaust hanger and replace it with an aftermarket universal type. The shipping box was almost completely destroyed by [shipper] but due to securing the parts together well inside, it arrived in good condition and complete.

1980 Jeep CJ-5

This hitch is pretty well built but there were some minor issues with the install.

The washers used to bolt to the rear of the frame were to large as the overlapped. The support that attaches to the right frame rail had to have a small notch ground in it to clear the shackle.
The supplied nut plates all had powder coating in the threads and had to be cleaned up.

When looking on the website I found what I was looking for and was able to match it up to my 83 CJ seven. Once it arrived I had a question about the installation and after a phone call I was able to finish the install with the help from their tech department. I would definitely recommend this company.

1986 Jeep CJ-7

nice looking hitch. well made.

waiting
for a new cross member for the jeep before installing the hitch.

by:

The box arrived in a shamble.. and a full roll of tape to hold it together. The back part of the hitch has a large area where the powder coat was scratched off, other than that, it's a good product. Very heavy duty and installs fairly easy.

  • Will Curt Trailer Hitch 13412 Fit a 1982 Jeep CJ-7 with 20 Gallon Gas Tank
We have had this question come up before and have determined after talking to Curt, the manufacturer, that trailer hitch # 13412 will fit a 1982 Jeep CJ-7 with the optional 20 gallon gas tank. I am including a link to the installation instructions for the Curt hitch. If you plan on doing some towing I recommend etrailer ball mount kit # 989900. It comes with 2 ball mounts, 2 balls, a hitch pin with clip and a storage bag. For trailer wiring, if needed, you can use # 18252.

  • Exhaust Hanger Interference When Installing Curt Class III Hitch # 13412 on 1985 Jeep CJ-7
I spoke with my contact at Curt, who tells me that you can simply disconnect the existing exhaust hanger, install the hitch, and then use the bolt shown in the diagram I have provided to reinstall the bracket. The bolt would pass through the exhaust hanger bracket, through the arm of the hitch and through the frame. According to Curt, this solution will not affect the strength of the installation in any way.

  • Will Curt 13412 Class III Hitch for 1985 Jeep CJ-5 Fit 1985 Jeep Scrambler CJ-8
None of our manufacturers list a fit for the 1985 Jeep CJ-8 Scrambler, but I can provide you a photo showing the bolt hole spacing for the Curt # 13412 hitch for the 1985 CJ-5. You can compare those dimensions with the holes in the rear crossmember to see if the hitch would be compatible. The Curt # C13315 you'd looked at is a fit for a 2013-2018 Mazda CX-5, and wouldn't be a fit.

  • Will a Reese Class III Trailer Hitch Fit a 1985 and 2004 Jeep Wrangler?
I do have a few hitches that will fit these vehicles individually, however, there are no hitches which will fit on both your 2004 Jeep Wrangler and 1985 Jeep CJ-7. For your 2004 Jeep Wrangler, I recommend the Curt Trailer Hitch Class III # 13408. This hitch is confirmed to fit your Wrangler by Curt and we have test fitted the hitch on a 2004 Jeep Wrangler. I have attached a photo of this hitch on your vehicle. This hitch is a bolt-on installation and the maximum gross trailer weight is...

  • Trailer Hitch Fit for a 1985 Jeep CJ8 Scrambler
In order to determine if the Curt Trailer Hitch Receiver part # 13412 will fit your 1985 Jeep CJ8 Scrambler you will need to measure the distance between the mounting holes in the rear crossmember. Unfortunately, the Curt Trailer Hitch Receiver has not yet been tested on your vehicle therefore measuring will be the only way to determine fit. If it is not a direct fit then your best option would be to modify slightly until the desired fit is achieved as they do not have any custom fit options...

  • Using Sway Control with Curt Trailer Hitch # 13412 on a 1981 Jeep CJ-7
Weight distribution puts a lot of additional stress on a trailer hitch which is why the hitch has to be designed, tested, and rated for use with weight distribution. Curt trailer hitch # 13412 does not meet the criteria so you cannot use weight distribution with it on your 1981 Jeep CJ-7. You can still use an anti-sway device though. You would just need to use sway control bracket # RP26003 and then a friction sway control bar, # 83660. I have linked a video that features both of these...

  • Availability Of Trailer Hitch Receiver For 1973 Jeep CJ-5 V8
The reason the Curt Trailer Hitch Receiver - Custom Fit - Class III - 2" # 13412 you were looking at will not fit a 1973 Jeep CJ-5 is due to it being designed for the 1976 - 1983 CJ-5. In 1976 Jeep changed the frame from a partially open design to a full boxed frame which is why this hitch does not fit the pre 1976 models. At this time there is not a custom fit trailer hitch receiver for your 1973 Jeep CJ-5 but it may be possible to install a universal trailer hitch receiver like the...

  • Towing Equipment for a 1982 Jeep CJ-7 Renegade
If you are looking for a trailer hitch receiver and wiring for your 1982 Jeep CJ-7 Renegade then you have come to the right place. The Curt Class III Trailer Hitch Receiver # 13412 is a great option for a trailer hitch receiver that we have. It has a 4,000 lbs Max Gross Trailer Weight (GTW) and a 400 lbs Max Tongue Weight (TW). This hitch will require some drilling to install. When it comes to wiring for your Jeep you will have to do some splicing to get the appropriate connections....

  • How Far Does The Curt Trailer Hitch Receiver 13412 Stick Out On The 1985 Jeep CJ-7
The Curt Trailer hitch receiver part # 13412 sticks out about 6-1/2" from the cross member. You can use the hitch with an aftermarket bumper but all of the bumpers we carry already have hitch receivers integrated into them. When using an aftermarket bumper you would need to use the 7/16 x 2" bolt provided.

  • Trailer Hitch Compatible with 1983 Jeep CJ-5 and CJ-7
Without the model of Jeep, I can only give you fit options. For a CJ-7 or CJ-5 we have the Curt Trailer Hitch Receiver - Custom Fit - Class III - 2" # 13412. For any other models we unfortunately do not have a hitch receiver available. I know that isn't the economical option you were seeking but it is the only option. Most models in that year don't have any option for a hitch receiver. You can see the locations of attachment and support on the hitch # 13412 are not what you were describing...
