This should have been a simple four bolt install, but due to a flaw in design it took me two hours to install it. First off the hitch should be about 1/2 inch wider than it is. The mounting holes are elongated to allow some wiggle room but i could only get one mounting bolt to thread. After much effort and aggravation i realized the diameter of the flat washer was too big and pushing agaisnt the hitch preventing the hole on the other side to line up. I ground the washer to create a flat side, removed about 1/4 in, and was able to get the two bolts closest to rear of vehicle to thread up but the bolt was firmly against the outside of the elongated hole the two bolts towards the front of vehicle would not thread in because the hitch covered part of the bolt hole. I had to remove the two bolts i had installed and place the hitch in my vice. Using a 3 lb hammer i bent the frame bracket about 1/4 inch out on both sides. After this modification i was able to attach the hitch to the vehicle without any other issues.
The hitch looks nice on the vehicle and should serve me well.

It sounds like your hitch receiver was flexed. This is a common issue that can be handled with a table vice or a pry bar. Here are tips for fixing this in the attached help article:

Smooth installation. Nice hitch.

This hitch has been problem free. I have towed a utility trailer with it around town to retrieve building supplies and other purchases.

I ordered these two, front and rear for a 1990 GEO Tracker 4 wheel drive that I am rebuilding. I believed they would fit, I finally got around to mounting them and they don't fit, to large. I think I have had them to long to return them.

Delmar, this is a confirmed fit for a 1990 Geo Tracker. Could it be flexed or something? Also we have a 6 month return policy. Call customer service with your order number and they can walk you through the process.

by:

Perfect fit, great support even though i didn't need any. Etrailer always exceeds expectations

1996 Geo Tracker

Mounting ends of hitch should be wrapped in cardboard so they don't cut through the box in shipment (nice heavy duty box though).
Washers are too big and bolt heads at rear need to be 14mm or Socket head to clear frame with a socket attached.
The hitch lined up perfectly (just the issue with mounting hardware).

I apologize that you were having complications with the hardware. I have sent your information over to our customer service department for them to better assist you.

It is a lightweight hitch, and it has worked perfectly even on medium sized hauling. Once the old hitch was removed, installation was very easy. I was able to do it myself with no help in about an hour. There is some peeling paint and rust starting, but I've never had a hitch that hasn't had that.

This hitch is working perfectly after a year. It is on a car that is only used sparingly, and kept in a garage, and shows very little wear or corrosion.

by:

The trailer hitch was exactly as they said plus it was priced right.

Brittany is super on the phone and great at returning calls.

You can't go wrong with etrailer.

Super quick delivery. The hitch bolted right up. There is a plug and play connector that would be more appropriate for my Tacker other than an oprn wire harness. hoping to track that one down soon.

I checked with all the aftermarket manufactures that we offer and there are only hardwire options for the 1995 Geo Tracker.

Hitch arrived on time in good shape. Very easy to mount on my 96 tracker, had it installed in less than 30 mins. Only drawback is I wanted a 2 inch reciever, but apparently no one make that for the Tracker so will have to use adapter. Very good quality and fit.

by:
1997 Geo Tracker

Arrived promptly. Excellent craftsmanship, well made. Liked that it was made in the USA.
Yakima bike rack fits perfectly with good clearance from spare tire. Needed to change out two bolts with smaller heads due to provided bolt heads did not clear fender apperatus. Love this receiver hitch.

by:
1989 Suzuki Sidekick

Excellent quality. Bolts right up. The only installation issue is the provided bolts are too long to use on the rear most two holes without removing the bumper support brackets (1989 Suzuki Sidekick). The included bolts are purposely long to allow for a range of applications, but shorter bolts would have made it easier. Minor whining over!

by:

This hitch was impossible to find anywhere else. Bolted right on, thank you all so much!

by:

The hitch bolted up to my car very easy, no problems. It also gives me extra protection for my gas tank. And now I am able to hook up to my trailer and hall anything I want when needed.

by:

  • Ball Mount and Hitch Ball Recommendation for a 1994 Suzuki Sidekick with a Curt Hitch Installed
The Curt hitch that has been confirmed as a fit for your 1994 Suzuki Sidekick is the part # 11128. The correct ball mount would then be the part # C45521. For a 2 inch ball you would want the part # 19258 and then for a 1-7/8 inch ball you would want the part # 19256.

  • Are the Flat 2 x 5/8 Drawbars Still Available for My 1994 Geo Tracker
The flat drawbars are obsolete and are no longer available. Your best bet for an extra drawbar may be a used auto parts source. If you decide to change out your hitch we offer a Class I hitch, part number # 11128 that is a fit for your Geo Tracker. C45521 drawbar is recommended for the # 11128 hitch. You could purchase two of them, and install a 2 inch ball, part # 19258 on one and a 1-7/8 inch ball, part # 19256 on the other.

  • Trailer Hitch and Wiring for a 1990 Geo Tracker
Curt trailer wiring harness # C56175 is listed as a fit for the 1990 Geo Tracker. The only hitch option is # 11128 and it fits both 2- and 4-door models. Since you are getting a hitch and wiring harness you will also need a ball mount and a ball to do some towing. The correct ball mount for this hitch and vehicle is # 3593. For a 1-7/8 inch ball use # 19256 and for a 2 inch use # 19258.

For lighter duty vehicles like your 1994 Suzuki Sidekick there are only 1-1/4 inch hitches available like the Curt part # 11128. The larger 2 inch size is only seen on heavier duty vehicles like trucks and SUVs. You'd need a new bike rack that fits the 2 inch hitch size basically like the Hollywood Racks Trail Rider # HR200Z.

  • Compatibility & Effect of Using Hitch Adapter in Class I Hitch
A Class I hitch like Curt part # 11128 which fits your 1990 Suzuki Sidekick must be used with only Class I-compatible accessories. This includes items like bike racks and hitch adapters. There are some 1-1/4-inch hitch adapters that will not work in a Class I hitch, only in a Class II. But we do offer several that will, and these are shown on the linked page, including part # HT5R. Do please note that use of any hitch adapter will cause you to lose half of your hitch's rated capacity....

  • Can 4 Bikes Be Carried On 1992 Geo Tracker with Trailer Hitch
The Curt Trailer Hitch Receiver part # 11128 is indeed a confirmed fit for a 1992 Geo Tracker. It features a bolt-on install with no cutting, drilling, or welding required. This is a class I hitch which means the maximum number of bikes that can be carried is two, regardless of capacity. This has more to do with leverage than capacity. There are unfortunately only class I options for this vehicle. The only way to safely carry more than two bikes would be on the roof with a roof bike rack....
