Tips for Replacing and Installing Trailer Fenders

  • Do your best to match the dimensions of the new fender to your old one.
    • If a fender was damaged during a blowout, use the opposite fender to get the dimensions.
  • As with all trailer maintenance, don't forget to chock your wheels before getting started.
  • For a bolt-on fender, use your existing mounting hardware, if possible.
    • The old mounting bolts or screws might be stripped or rusted, in which case you'll need to tap them out and buy new hardware.
  • If removing an old, welded-on fender, either carefully chisel it off yourself or take your trailer to a weld shop to have the fender professionally removed.
  • Don't forget to prime and paint the new fender to keep it from rusting (and to match your trailer's finish).
  • Before you start drilling, position the fender where you need it and center it over your wheel well.
    • Mark where you need to drill (measure twice, drill once).
  • Don't tighten down the mounting hardware completely until you're sure the fender is mounted correctly.

Video Transcript for Review of etrailer Trailer Fenders - Single Axle Jeep Style Fender - HP76FR

Jeff: Hello, everybody, this is Jeff at etrailer.com. Today, we're going to take a look at this etrailer single-axle Jeep Style ribbed steel trailer fender for 13-inch to 15-inch wheels. It is for a quantity of one fender. Now, this fender is designed to cover one tire on your single-axle trailer. This fender will act as a splash guard, helps keep any road debris from hitting other vehicles, and it also helps protect your trailer's cargo. I wanted to zoom in and just show you the edges of this fender.

If you notice on this edge and on that edge, both edges have a nice one-inch curved radius lip to them, gives you extra protection, nice finished appearance. It'll also allow you to mount this to either side of the trailer. Now, this is a nice sturdy, ribbed, 16-gauge cold rolled steel construction. Now, this does have a raw finish. That's how you might be able to see these little surface rough spots here, and those can just be sanded off pretty easily. Basically, because it's a raw finish, these do need to be primed and then painted to provide even more resistance for corrosion and to match your trailer's paint finish.

The three ribs you can see right here in the middle of the fender, these are stiffener ribs. They are designed to help eliminate flexing of the fender. And this one is the classic Jeep design, which will outfit your trailer in a nice unique style. Instead of the normal rounded fenders that you see, this design has the flat top to it with the 70-degree angle to the sides. Now, this is a weld-on or bolt-on installation.

It's not pre-drilled, and the mounting brackets for bolt-on installation are sold separately. This part is made in the USA.Again, the quantity of the one fender. Application is a single-axle trailer with 13-inch to 15-inch diameter wheels. The weight on this one fender is right at 12 pounds. And the last thing I want to do is just give you the dimensions on this.

So the length we're going to measure is from this end all the way over to this end. So if we get our tape measure and if we go from that end to that end is going to be right at 36 inches long. The height, which we'll measure from here to the top, that's going to be right at 19 and a quarter inches tall. And the last one we're going to measure is the width of the fender itself. It's going to be right at 10 inches wide. That should do it for the review on this etrailer single-axle Jeep style ribbed steel trailer fender for 13-inch to 15-inch wheels for a quantity of one.

Just as described. Thank you :)

by:

Not packaged very well. Fenders ended up with some damage. The way the fenders where manufactured, leaves crease lines from the tooling. Nice material though. Shipping time and customer service is really great.

by:

I am very happy with the fenders, they are made of quality steel and are very strong. I feel that they are well worth the cost, and the customer service was great.

by:

Good looking fender. Well made.

by:

First class fabrication. Just exactly what I wanted. I am using the fenders to make fender flares for the rear of a 1959 Willy’s Jeep Wagon. The ribs and style fit perfectly .

by:

Excellent serice and products.

Outstanding, it improved the appearance and stability, over the fenders that were on at the time. I used these fenders to replace the ones that had been on by another owner.

by:

perfect size and fit correctly.

by:

One of the two fenders has deep scratches I'll have to sand out before painting.
Just a little work I was hoping to avoid before install.

by:

Please say it’s on back order next time

Very well made. I added some more bar tacks to bond the backing plate to the fender. It probably would have been fine as is, but for three minutes of effort I know that the two won't separate. I built a T out of 1" tubular steel to mount it to the trailer and there is no flex, once I welded it all together. Arrived clean enough to paint (but I still wiped it down with isopropyl alchohol before painting).Nice heavy gauge fender.
