Use your towed car's signal lights without tapping into its wiring. This self-contained wiring kit bypasses your Ford Focus's electrical system, eliminating any concerns over violating the manufacturer's warranty.

Today on our 2015 Ford Focus we're going to be taking a look at and installing the Roadmaster taillight wiring kit with bulbs, part number RM-155. With this system you're not going to tie into any of your factory wiring. This is a completely self sufficient system running off the wiring of your coach. There's no need to tap or splice into any factory wiring or add any diodes because it's a separate bulb and socket that go into each of your taillights. Now this is what your kit's going to consist of. You're going to have a 30 foot long piece of four flat wiring with ends on both sides. We'll have a six foot jumper harness that's going to be used for going between your coach and your vehicle.
Some zip ties, miscellaneous butt connectors, and the two bulb and sockets. Now let's go ahead and show you how to install them. Now we're going to need to remove our taillights to start with, so we're going to go in the inside of our vehicle, pop out this cover. Inside there there's a plastic wing nut. We'll loosen that up. Our nut up here, we're going to take it and loosen it up.
We have those two off. We can grab it, slide it back. We're going to unplug it. We're just going to squeeze in, slide it back away. We'll do the same process for the passenger side as well.
We're going to need to install our bulb and socket in our light. We're going to use a one inch hole saw. We're going to drill the hole close to our factory one that's going to point out. Then we'll bend over these tabs a little bit and snap it into position. Now the most difficult part about this is trying to keep all the extra particles out of our light as we're doing this.
I'm going to go ahead and apply some air, and we're going to put our hole. Now we're going to get a little bit inside there. You kind of want to tap it into one spot and then we'll get our vacuum and we'll try and suck it out. Now when we get our socket, the tangs are all bent in, so I'm going to go ahead and just bend them all straight out. I'm going to put our bulb back in. You may have to adjust these a couple times to get them where they snap into the socket. Just bend them out a little bit more. Just keep trying it and test fitting it until you get it where it snaps in and will stay nice and tight. There we go. Now we're going to take a little bit of silicone. This is available on our website. Part number LT37467. Just going to kind of go around the outside here, try and seal it up to help keep the moisture out of our light. This will also help keep your socket in place. Now we'll do the same process for the passenger side as well. Now we took our six foot jumper harness that would go normally between our coach and our towed vehicle. Since we're not going to be using that, I went ahead and cut the ends off on both sides. I routed our wire down from the passenger side, following the bottom of the body, and came up on the driver's side so we can use that as our jumper harness to connect our taillights together. Now we're going to need to get a ground on this side as well. I took a short piece of white wire, take our supplied ring loop connector, crimp it on, and we got a self tapping screw. I'm going to attach it down here into the sheet metal for our ground. On the other end we'll strip that back as we will the white wire on our four pull wire. We're going to strip back the green and our brown. The yellow on this side we're not going to use because that'll be for the left side so we're going to cut that back a little bit. It's just going to be a dead wire, so we're going to put a blue butt connector on our green wire. We'll put a blue butt connector on the brown wire as well. We're going to use a yellow on this side since we're going to have two wires together. Got a tug. We'll be ready to mount our socket. I'm going to go ahead and strip back our wiring on our socket. It's going to be a black, a brown, and a red. The brown will go to the brown. Put that into position, crimp it. The red wire is going to be for our brake and turn signal, so that's going to go to the green on the passenger side. The black will be our ground, and we're going to tie in on this side. Once we have those all secure, we do want to make sure that we put some electrical tape around our connections. It's going to help insure we get no moisture or corrosion in there. Now we'll be sure to tuck our wiring down out of the way, and we're going to slip our light back into position and reattach our two thumb screws. We'll install the second one. We can re-install our little covers. Now we're going to take our 30 foot four pull flat wire and we're going to cut one end off. Then we're going to fish that wire up from the bottom as well like we did this one. Now we want to go ahead and take the yellow wire. We're going to cut it back on this end as well. Now we have our piece of air line sweeping down to the bottom. We're going to attach it to that four pull flat wire. It's going to run to the front of the vehicle, and we'll fish it up to the top. Now that we have this up top, we can go ahead and strip back our wires and we'll do the same with the other side here. Now our green wire, we're going to take a butt connector. We're going to attach it to the green wire going to the other side of the car. That's the one we have zip tied here. Our two grounds we're going to tie together with the yellow butt connector. Our two browns, those will go together as well. We'll put a blue butt connector on this yellow wire. We're going to go ahead and strip back our wires on this side as well onto our red wire. We're going to attach the yellow and the white wire. We've got our black, and our brown wire will go to the browns. Then we can go ahead and tape up all of our wires. Now we're going to plug in our factory plug and be sure to tuck our wires down out of the way. Take our plastic wing nuts and we'll install the both of them, give them a little bit of a tighten. We'll re-install the cover. Now we'll move back to the bottom side of the vehicle. We went ahead and routed our wire. We followed behind our heat shields, going up over our rear suspension, making sure to zip tie it and keeping it away from any moving components or heat sources. We stayed behind our heat shield and we just went ahead and followed the inside of our heat shield all the way along until we got to the firewall. We came out of our heat shield here, and we went up the firewall, and came out behind the battery. Got it zip tied to our negative cable here. I left a nice large loop for the installation of a supplemental braking system. If you are going to do that, you might want to go ahead and leave yourself a nice loop of wire up top there as well. I ran it down through the fascia here, into the grill, followed along the inside of our grill to the back of our plug. Now we went ahead and removed the four flat plug that comes with it, because our customer has a four round on their coach and they wanted it to match. If you just use a four flat, this would be what's coming out of the end of your car. Then you would plug your jumper harness if necessary in between. Now we can take our tester and we're going to test our taillights. Try our taillights, our left brake and turn, and our right brake and turn. That's going to do it for our look at and install of the Roadmaster tail light wiring kit with bulbs, part number RM-155 on our 2015 Ford Focus.

This was a good option for our 2020 Chevy Equinox because it does not tie into the tow vehicle electrical system and runs directly from the Motorhome electrical system.
Put this into a 2002 Jeep Liberty. Good directions. Drilled out the lower part of tail light housing and install bulb sockets into it. You may have to deburr the tail light housing a bit and manipulate the tangs on the bulb socket but is fine. I put in 1157 LED bulbs :) Good stuff!
This product was easy to install but it took some time routing the wiring harness from the front bumper to the rear. Pick up some extra zip ties, you will need several. The lighting system is independent allowing for the use of LED bulbs. Great product.

Found this item was wired with the brake lights for the brown wires and turn/running lights for colored wires and this fact kept me from getting this done very rapidly. Once identified, went together really nicely and actually grounded to frame for higher light output. I upgraded 3 wire into 2 wire converter with "Roadmaster Brite-lite 3 to 2 Wiring Converter" and they are as bright as the lights already in the housing. Except for that wiring issue, it would have been excellent. As to performance after install, great. Customer service was nice from Roadmaster as well. Did receive a call back message from etrailer a couple days later.
I purchased a Blue Ox base plate, Air Force One braking system, and a light kit for my 2013 Durango. I could have not asked for an easier process with selecting and ordering, also the tutorials and videos were a great help in determining what was the best system for me . Everything arrived as planned and in great condition. This is not my first time using etrailer.com and my prior experience was equally good.

After using the items I reviewed, about 6,000 miles, I am more than satisfied. The towing setup is easy to hook up and unhook and the braking system is second to none. All of the installation was completed by myself and a friend, both of us have a technical background him more than me and we found the videos of the installation extremely helpful.Thank you for following up and providing excellent products as well as support services.

The kit kit comes with more parts and wire than I needed and was simple to install on my 2010 JK.

I like this product and would definitely buy it again. I like not having to splice into the vehicle wiring and install diodes, etc. It is a clean installation with good instructions. All I have to do to hook up the lights is raise the hood of the towed car and pull out the pigtail and hook it to the motorhome. It is powered by the motorhome and does not run down the battery in the towed car. Great product.

Easy install, working well 1 year later.
This kit really simplifies wiring tail lights on a vehicle that will be towed. No cutting into the vehicle's wiring and adding isolation diodes. Very functional and easy to install.

Kit was of good quality components. I would recommend about twice a much protective wire wrap along with extra of the smaller butt connectors. Fortunitely I had what I needed on hand. I also used a larger ring terminal.

Works great. 2002 Jeep Wrangler tail lights have plenty of room for the extra tail light bulbs.
Good instructions. Everything need is included for 4flat connections. One bulb socket arrived with the ground (black) wire loose in the bag. The solder joint had failed. Resoldered but had to remove the other wires and rubber insert from the bulb socket to avoid melting. Not a shining example for Roadmaster.

A very clever idea for an easy, neat, simple installation to safely operate tail lights on a towed vehicle. We installed this kit on our 2017 Chevy Sonic and it works great.

Great product, not a bad install and works great. I chose to cut off both 4 flat connectors and I installed a 4 round connector with spring cover on the front of my CRV. Looks and work out great.

Still working fine.
I really didn't want to install a separate bulb kit but our Equinox light was not compatible with our motor home. I was also installing a trailer lighting harness for the Equinox at the same time and doing them together made a lot of sense. I found this kit to be easy to manage and that drilling into the rear light housings not nearly as difficult as I had imagined. I would share a picture of the result but fortunately there is nothing to see - everything fit right into the Equinox's rear lamp structure. I compared the original lights with those from the kit driven by the RV and found them to be a great match. I upgraded the kit bulbs to LEDs for greater longevity.
I purchased this wiring kit for use in my 1999 Mazda Miata.
I did not want to cut into the OEM wiring harness, even using the diode method to safeguard the system. I felt that the fully separate wiring harness was more to my way of thinking for getting my car ready to tow.
I did not follow the included instructions that said to run the flat 4 wiring beneath the car, zip tying it along the way free of the exhaust and moving parts. I ran it through the firewall, beneath the dash, under the center console, and under the carpeting back into the trunk area. I then installed the bulb holders as instructed in my OEM Miata taillight fixtures.
I am happy to have all the wiring up and out of the way of potential road hazard damage, as well as the hot and/or moving parts beneath the car.
It works perfectly, and I am glad that I purchased this kit, and also that I decided to install it the way I felt best to do so.
It took much longer my way, but I'll never have to mess with it again.
This time it went without a hitch. last time was another thing. hopefully moving forward its all good.
