Base Plates, Tow Bar, and Accessories Needed to Flat Tow a 2008 Jeep Wrangler X
Question:
I have an existing Hidden Hitch tow bar that I used to pull an 89 Jeep Wrangler behind a Motorhome. I now have a 2008 Jeep Wrangler X with standard front endno after market hardware. Can I get a MX bracket for the 2008 Jeep that will work with the Hidden Hitch tow bar?

Expert Reply:
The Roadmaster MX base plates, # 1429-3, that you have referenced will fit the 2008 Jeep Wrangler X. However, the Hidden Hitch tow bar that you have is not compatible with the MX style base plates.
You have 2 options. First, you could use the MX base plates and also get a compatible tow bar, the most popular of which is the Falcon 2, # RM-520. Or, you can get different base plates, # 1429-1, and use an adapter, # RM-025, with quick disconnects, # RM-201. The Hidden Hitch tow bar that you have is only rated for 45 miles per hour, so I recommend going with option 1, a new tow bar.
I have included a link to the installation details for the Falcon 2 tow bar and a video review for you.You will also need to add some safety cables, # RM-643, if you do not already have a set.
For lighting, I recommend the RoadMaster Tail Light Wiring Kit with Bulbs, # RM-155. This kit does not require cutting into the vehicle wiring to install.
Most states now require a supplemental braking system on the vehicle being towed. The easiest to set up and use is the Even Brake, # RM-9400. This is a proportional system that applies the vehicle brakes in proportion to how much the towing vehicle is braking. Proportional systems are the safest way to stop and they reduce wear and tear on both vehicles.
