These Titan Chain diamond-pattern chains are great winter weather chains. If you live in an area where you're likely to get periodic snow and ice, these chains are perfect because they're durable and easy to mount. And they're lightweight and compact, so they store in your vehicle nicely too.

These chains are among the easiest and fastest to install because they have built-in tensioners that you can just pull taut to adjust the fit. These tensioners allow the chains to fit your tires, no matter the profile or wear pattern. And because the tensioners are built-in, you never have to worry about losing them like you might with other chains on the market.

Class S Designation

SAE Class S tire chains are designed for use on passenger vehicles with restricted wheel-well clearance. Most newer cars, vans, and small trucks - especially those with large aftermarket tires - will require Class S chains. If you're unsure about the class of your vehicle, consult your vehicle's user manual.

SAE Class S Clearance Diagram

These chains will fit your tires provided there is both:

  • A - a minimum of 1.46" (37 mm) between the top of the tire tread and the wheel well
  • B - at least 0.59" (15 mm) between the tire's sidewall and the vehicle

Confirming Your Fit

If you know your tire size, you may think you won't need to test fit your new chains. But there are a lot of variables that can affect whether chains will fit your specific tires, including your tire type, the amount of air pressure in the tire, the amount of tread wear, and the tire manufacturer. You'll also need to know how much clearance is in your wheel well, which you can determine by measuring from your tire tread to the sidewall of the wheel well.

We recommend that you order chains as early in the season as possible to give yourself plenty of time to test fit the chains and reorder if needed. This way, you won't be stuck out in the cold later with snow chains that don't fit.

You can test fit these chains in your garage or driveway, but you'll want to wait until there's snow on the ground to actually drive with them. Likewise, if you're out in the snow and come across bare pavement, you'll want to pull over and remove the chains. These chains can cause damage to the bare pavement, your garage floor, or your vehicle if they break from the wear of riding on a harsh surface.

Installing Tire Chains

Installing these chains is incredibly simple.

Lay chains on the ground to get all the tangles out

1. Lay out the chains on the ground to make sure there are no twists or kinks.

Slide chains behind the tire

2. Spread the chain around the back of the tire.

Make connections behind the tire

3. Connect the ends of the cable, which will sit behind the tire.

Attach green hook to yellow side chains

4. Around front, connect the 2 ends of the yellow side chain using the green hook at the top of the tire.

Feed tensioner through clips

5. At the bottom of the tire, feed the silver tensioning chain through the red channel bracket and pull it taut. Then run the tensioner through as many red clips along the side chain as you can, leaving room to still be able to stretch the hook across the tire.

Recheck tension

6. Attach the hook to the side chain directly across from the last clip you ran the tensioner through. The hook should face away from your tire. Pull your vehicle forward 2-3 vehicle lengths and recheck the tension.

How to Choose Snow Chains for Your Vehicle

To choose the right snow chain, you must match your tire size. Those measurements can be found on the side of your tire, as shown below.

Tire size on sidewall

185/60-15

  1. (185) - indicates tire width in millimeters
  2. (60) - gives you the aspect ratio (sidewall height as percentage of width)
  3. (15) - denotes the diameter of the wheel rim in inches

I'm very happy with my snow chains! The chains are easy to install, the carrying case is great, the instructions are very clear, and George and Carol from etrailer provided great customer service! The chains are well-priced and are comparable to the Grizzlar Diamond tire chains.

2014 Hyundai Sonata

As a single Mom I looked a while for chains I felt comfortable installing on my own with my teenage daughter on the hill snowing. I loved all the reviews and installation videos. etrailer.com made it so easy to find what I was looking for and the confidence to purchase. I put these on my car in the driveway today just following the instruction guide that came with my chains and my memory of the video when I purchased....amazing! Easy. Thank you so much! I also love the high quality bag the chains come in to take care of them for years to come. Great price as well. Excellent purchase!
Here's hoping next year will be better than all the rain we've had this year and couldn't use! We want to ski! Let us out COVID-19!!!!!

Just what I needed. Quality and fit are excellent.

I have had these chains before on a front wheel drive Honda Accord (front and rear) and that car went everywhere. These will go on an AWD Subaru that is already pretty good in the snow. Now I can go anywhere I need to with confidence.

I ordered the Titan Alloy Snow Chains- Diamond Pattern for a 215/60R16 tire. The case listed a dozen or more tire sizes these chains should fit. One of the sizes listed was for the 215/60R16. I know that chains are not custom made for just one size. However it wasn't even close. These were way to big. I had to remove several links on both chains in order for the tightening mechanism to work. Normally I would have sent them back, but I need them for the next few days. I expected a better out-of-the-box fit for that price. Will see how they work in the snow.

The chains are very easy to put on - my 14 year-old-son put them on by himself.
We had a less than typical use for them - they were put on the wheels of a grain auger so that it could be moved around the farm in the winter, and the chains provided truly excellent traction.

by:

I needed chains for three vehicles. I've used these chains in the past and knew they were the ones I wanted. They are easy to put on and provide great traction. I ordered them from etrailer because etrailer had the best price, but I was very impressed with etrailer's service, particularly their proactive communication.

GMC Sierra

We drive 3/4 ton trucks and live in a rural area where the roads are not paved and winter can be vicious. These chains worked and were easy on and easy off...they also still look brand new after a nasty winter in the Sierra Mountains of N. NV. Couldn't be happier.

by:

Amazing customer service! The product came much faster than expected because etrailer upgraded my shipping speed to 3-5 days compared to their 5-7day shipping at no extra cost! I’m happy with my new set of chains and will definitely shop here more often. Absolutely recommend!!!

by:

Great set of chains. I used them on my fifth wheel and they were great.

by:

Product came with a nice carrying case and instructions were very simple. Customer service is excellent, they even shipped it sooner than expected. Can't say I want to use the chains...but if I do, I am sure I will be fine since I am prepared.

by:

Roger R. was extremely knowledgeable and helpful. I can't thank him enough for his help in determining the type of chains and accessories I will need to have with me for my trips through the Rockies. I will refer friends and family to your company. His customer service gets an A++!

Jessica was very helpful selecting which chains to purchase. They fit well, the price was very competitive and arrived quickly. I had to deliver some material to a mountain location and needed to go down a couple of steep inclines. I put chains on all four tires of my truck and one axle on the trailer. I didn't have any slipping or sliding on an icy snow-packed road.

by:

I put these chains on and they lasted less than one slow-driving (under 30mph) mile. Despite proper installation, both of them broke in different ways (seems like multiple weak points). One use and they failed me, in snow, got me deep into a predicament that I had to work quite a bit to get out of. I am worse off than when I started - and I had to pay a lot to be stranded. In my assessment, these chains are garbage and actually quite [not allowed to make "suggestions that may affect safety/warranty]. Contacted etrailer about it, brushed off referring to the 30-day limitation. There is no concern for proper function, likely just the bottomline. Value your money and go elsewhere.

I have a 2018 Suburban Premier with the 22” wheels and 285/45R22 tires. I purchased two sets of these chains (four chains in all) for a trip to Mammoth California at the beginning of March 2023 during a record snow season. I was really glad that I had them as I had them all four wheels for most of a week, taking them off and putting them on at least 5 times. Part of the time I had them on I was pulling a 6x12 UHaul trailer. These chains worked flawlessly and provided a huge amount of extra traction on top of my Michelin Defender LTS M/S tires. I was a bit concerned that using the chains may cause some damage to may alloy wheels, but that did not happen. If you put them on correctly, the wheels don’t get damaged at all. The etrailer videos that show how to put the chains on accurately portray the ease of doing that. Even after a week of pretty constant use, the chains don’t show much wear at all. I would absolutely buy these again.

by:

For ease of installation, these snow chains are great! The only problem I had was on my right rear, the tensioning chain could not be tightened enough going through the rings the way the instructions showed. I ended up going to the far ring first, then back to the middle, then across the wheel. Only for tensioning (doesn’t pull the chains offsides at all), so I think my solution worked well. Kelsey S. was a wonder to work with! This was my first foray into snow chains, so she guided me through my options, explaining every benefit and need for the ice/snow conditions expected. I put the chains on my 2015 Ram 2500 4x4 long bed relatively quickly considering my inexperience.

by:

These chains were amazing! I was a bit hesitant to go with chains over cables due to the car's manual saying to use cables, but after talking to Bob at etrailer, and watching the install videos, I went with them (on all four tires) and am glad I did! We went up to Yosemite for the New Year, and it snowed the day we drove in. We got through the gate into the park without needing chains, but once inside, the roads started to get covered, and though we have AWD, we don't have snow tires and the chains seemed like the best option. We pulled over and had the chains on all four tires within about 20 minutes. The car ran like a tank through the snow (and later, ice-covered roads) and I'm really happy we went with the chains rather than cables. After putting on the chains, we drove about 100 yards to check and tighten them. They were actually pretty tight - only had to tighten one. They really really came in handy driving through the Yosemite Valley, and the email responses I got from Bob prior to buying these showed me great customer service. The shipping speed was top notch as well, and overall, I'm happy that we went with etrailer to get these chains for our snow-covered trip to Yosemite.

  • Best Snow Tire Chain for 2016 Polaris Ranger UTV
I have a couple options for tire chains for your 2016 Polaris Ranger UTV. It depends on what situation you want them for. My personal favorite is the Titan Chain Alloy Tire Chain # TC1545 with its diamond pattern and relatively easy to install design. The diamond pattern has more tire coverage than your traditional ladder style chains, so it is great with maneuvers like sharp turns or quick stops. • Which Tires Should Snow Chains Be Installed On
When using chains they should at least go on the main drive wheels of the vehicle. You can put chains on the other, non-drive wheel tires for greater traction, turning, and braking. Be sure to consult the vehicle owners manual for specific information on the use of tire chains. I have included some links covering tire chains for you as well. If you could tell me the vehicle and tire size I can make some recommendations.

These chains have a diamond pattern that completely cover your tires. The square links offer great traction in both snow and ice. They also have built in tensioners that keep the chains snug on your tires. I have linked an installation video below so you can see how to get them set up. • Recommended Snow Tire Chains/Cables For A 2017 Chevy Equinox
The owner's manual for a 2017 Chevy Equinox states that you would need to S-Class cables instead of chains due to clearance issues and that they can only be installed on the front tires. Stock tires for a 2017 Chevy Equinox would have a 225/65R17 tire size so you would need the Titan Chain Cable Tire Chain # TC1042. Before purchasing check the sidewall of your tires to make sure the tire size code matches, if not let me know and I'll get you the correct size cables.

  • Can Tire Chains Be Used On Trailer Tires?
Some states do require tire chains on trailers especially for braked axles. They're commonly called drag chains in this application. As long as you have the internal clearance needed for the chains, you can use them on trailer tires. The Titan Chain Alloy Snow Tire Chains - Diamond Pattern # TC1545 are my recommendation for your 205/75R15 tires. They are high-quality manganese nickel alloy steel and the color-coding makes installation easy. These chains require 15mm of internal clearance...
