Note: To determine whether you can use snow chains on your vehicle, or if they might affect your ABS/EPS functionality, consult your owner's manual.

These chains are great for giving you a little extra traction in the snow. But if you live somewhere where you experience heavy snow often, you'll definitely want something more heavy duty than cables. Because these cable chains are lightweight and don't take up a lot of storage space, they are also perfect for keeping in your trunk if you occasionally travel through areas that require you to have chains on hand.

Class S Designation

SAE Class S tire chains are designed for use on passenger vehicles with restricted wheel-well clearance. Most newer cars, vans, and small trucks - especially those with large aftermarket tires - will require Class S chains. If you're unsure about the class of your vehicle, consult your vehicle's user manual.

SAE Class S Clearance Diagram

These chains will fit your tires provided there is both:

  • A - a minimum of 1.46" (37 mm) between the top of the tire tread and the wheel well
  • B - at least 0.59" (15 mm) between the tire's sidewall and the vehicle

Confirming Your Fit

If you know your tire size, you may think you won't need to test fit your new chains. But there are a lot of variables that can affect whether chains will fit your specific tires, including your tire type, the amount of air pressure in the tire, the amount of tread wear, and the tire manufacturer. You'll also need to know how much clearance is in your wheel well, which you can determine by measuring from your tire tread to the sidewall of the wheel well.

We recommend that you order chains as early in the season as possible to give yourself plenty of time to test fit the chains and reorder if needed. This way, you won't be stuck out in the cold later with snow chains that don't fit.

You can test fit these chains in your garage or driveway, but you'll want to wait until there's snow on the ground to actually drive with them. Likewise, if you're out in the snow and come across bare pavement, you'll want to pull over and remove the chains. Even low-profile chains can cause damage to the bare pavement, your garage floor, or your vehicle if they break from the wear of riding on a harsh surface.

Installing Cable Chains

Installing these chains is simple.

Lay chains on the ground.

1. Lay out the chains on the ground to make sure there are no twists or kinks.

Drape chain over tire.

2. Drape the chain over the tire or lay the chain out and drive onto it.

Connect cable behind tire.

3. Reach around to the back of the tire and fasten the rear side cable by running the end with the metal stops through the eye of the hook on the opposite end.

Secure excess cable.

4. Run any excess side cable through the metal clip.

Repeat around front.

5. Repeat this process on the front side of the tire.

Install rubber adjusters

6. Drive forward 1 car length, then check the chain and hand tighten it again if needed.

Rubber adjusters (sold separately) are recommended to help ensure a tight fit. Connect these to the front side of the cable in a star pattern. Make sure the hooks face away from your tire so your wheels don't get scratched.

Quick Tips:

  • Lengthen the life of snow chains by drying them after each use before you store them.
  • Check out our installation kit with safety lights and a kneeling pad (PO34FRK) to make things a little easier when you're installing chains out in the snow.

How to Choose Snow Chains for Your Vehicle

To choose the right snow chains, you must match your tire size. Those measurements can be found on the side of your tire, as shown below.

Tire size on sidewall

185/60-15

  1. (185) - indicates tire width in millimeters
  2. (60) - gives you the aspect ratio (sidewall height as percentage of width)
  3. (15) - denotes the diameter of the wheel rim in inches

Order 2 pairs for my car, got 2 different cables, one set blue the other set green. You can tell instantly because the bags are blue and green and oddly the different colors weight different amounts. Emailed customer service to get cables that match and they said that the label invoice number are the same on both bags, So it's the same product. So if you don't care that you can get 2 different colors from ordering 2 sets in the same order you can try for these.

I did reach out to the manufacturer who confirmed that the storage bag is changing from blue to green. Our stock of chains will have mixed bags for a short time until the transition in color is completed.

by:

4 stars only because I just got them and have not used them. Nice bag, looks like a great pair of emergency cable chains for that rare snow/ice storm.

Ford Transit Connect

The chains went on easily in dry conditions to practice installing. I have not used them on snow yet. I only expect to use them for short periods of snowy conditions on my Ford Transit. And I liked the price.

Titan Chain Cables are great quality and so easy to use. We were able to intuitively put them on and take off quickly. Etrailer has the best prices I've seen after researching.

Also, they have the BEST customer service, specifically Jane S. & Tammie P. I was not familiar with cables and our Subaru had specific clearance requirements. They made sure I received the correct type, fit and clearance for my car.

We highly recommend!

by:

I'm pretty disappointed in my experience. I lost a chain the first time I used it even though I followed the instructions. Can't speak to how well it works if it doesn't stay secured.

Even though it is not included with the purchase of the chains, we highly recommend some rubber tensioners, like part # TCMA1, to add some extra security. If you watch the installation video on our product page, our installer shows that these are hand tightened, so to add some extra security, you will want to use a tensioner and also drive the vehicle back and forth to adjust the chains and get a tight fit.

Product arrived quickly and was easy to install. Best of all the price was great and the free shipping helped seal the deal. Thanks etrailer!

2018 Toyota Sienna

The product worked great and was easy to install. I would have given 5 stars if it was not for the rubber adjuster breaking off one of its arms while installing although it still worked with one arm missing. Note: the rubber adjuster was an accessory and a must have when installing the chains. Thx etrailer !!!

Tire chains arrived Wed. p.m. - right on schedule. The young lady in Missouri who took our tire chain order was extremely helpful in making certain we were getting the correct size chains for our van. Today, October 10 we are heading to the mountains in central Colorado.... there is snow falling at this time. Hopefully snow will melt enough we will not need to open the package of tire chains! Would be great if these chains were still in the box 5 years from now when we will be done making trips to Colorado to watch a grandson play football!

by:
2012 Toyota Sienna

The product (tire chains) was delivered right on schedule, included reusable zip cases and was exactly like advertised.
Next step is to try them on the vehicle (detailed installation instructions were included with the product) to make sure they fit properly.
Have nothing but good things to say about eTrailer.com so far as they delivered as expected.

I will use this product soon on my trip to Big Bear. Based on the quality of material that the product made off I'm very confident with by purchase. Also I would like to thank for exceptional customer service that George, Lisa, and Erika had provided me. They have been monitoring the status of my order and providing me latest update of it. Big thanks to you guys and Etrailer for such a service.

Great product and affordable. The hardest part is not installing it on the tires but “how to put it back in the small casing”..otherwise, its excellent product

  • Cable Style Tire Chains and Where to Put them on a 2013 Chey Equinox AWD LT
I checked the owner's manual for a 2013 Chevy Equinox and it does indicate that you can use cable style chains. It would appear that your vehicle has 225/65-17 tires so chains # TC1042 will fit. The vehicle manual indicates that the cables can only go on the front wheels and not the rear. You can look at shipping cost info my selecting the add to cart button, select calculate shipping, enter the zip code, and select the calculate shipping button.

  • Tire Chain Recommendation for 2015 Chevy Equinox with Tire Size 225/65R17
We have tire cables that do fit your tire size of 225/65-17 like the Glacier # PW1042 or the Titan # TC1042 but since these are really only ideal for a one time emergency use I'd recommend you go with a set like the part # TC1555 which are also priced great but they install easier, provide better traction, and will last much longer. Let's say you wanted the absolute best setup that installs in a matter of seconds you'd then want the Easy Fit kit part # TH04115245 which only take a few...

  • Do the Titan TC1042 Tire Chains Fit on 235/60R17 Tires?
I can see where this might be confusing. The Titan Chain Cable Snow Tire Chains # TC1042 are a confirmed fit for your 235/60r17 tires. These are actually a very basic set of cables that fit an extremely large amount of tires with wheels between 14" and 20" so it's more than likely that they simply couldn't fit all of the tire sizes on that small card. Below you will find a list of tire sizes that the TC1042 will fit on. These chains fit the following tire sizes: 215/65-17 215/75-16 225/50-16 2...

  • Will One Set of Tire Chains Fit Both LT225/75R16 And LT265/70R17 Tires
I compared all of the chains for tire sizes 225/75-16 and 265/70-17. There are no chains that fit both sizes so you would need to get separate chains, such as cable style chains, like you want for both vehicles. For the 225/75-16 tires you can use # TC1042 with rubber adjusters # TCOA1. And for the 265/70-17 tires use # TC2028 with rubber adjusters # TCMA2. Be sure to consult the vehicle owners manuals for specific information on the use of tire chains. I have also included a link to...

  • Correct Titan Cable Tire Chain for my 2020 Toyota Camry with Tire Size 235/45R18
Yes unfortunately part # TC1034 is not a fit for the 235/45R18 tires. Instead use the Titan Chain Cable Snow Tire Chains - Ladder Pattern part # TC1042. These are a larger chain and confirmed to fit your 2020 Toyota Camry with your tire size. Be sure to check your owner's manual for any specific rules you need to follow when using chains to prevent any vehicle damage.

For cable style snow chains like the set you are looking at that will fit the 225/55-18 tires on your 2018 Mitsubishi Outlander I recommend the Titan # TC2029. These are confirmed to fit this tire size and the low-carbon steel rollers will provide nice traction in light snow. These are Class S compatible which means they work well with vehicles like yours that have limited wheel well clearance. For ladder style cables that fit the 225/65-17 tires on the 2011 Honda CR-V use # TC1042.
