Can A Second Solar Panel Be Added Into A Solar Panel System

Question:

Thanks Kevin, What do you think about getting another Go Power 80 solar panel, wiring them together and then to my existing controller? If I go with that option, I would try it next year and maybe add a portable panel if I need even more power. I may also upgrade my batteries to 100a hours each for a total of 200a hours. I currently have two AGMs at 79a hours each. Thoughts?

You can put two 80 watt panels together, but you'll want to just confirm the maximum amperage of your system's controller to ensure that both panels don't exceed this capacity. If we look at the Go Power Eco Solar Charging System - 80 Watt Solar Panel # 34272627 the panel can produce 4.57 amps and the included solar charge controller can handle up to 10 amps. If you added a second 80 watt panel you'd fall under the 10 amp maximum of the charge controller at 9.14 amps, but Go Power as well as many other solar companies recommend leaving about 20-25% of the controller's capacity available incase there was ever a power surge.

An additional 10 amp solar charge controller # 34280503 could also be wired into your system to increase the amperage capacity or you could swap to a larger 30 amp model # GP72RR. Just check the ratings on your current equipment and see how much capacity you have and we can see if you'll need anything else to make adding to your system possible.
