Yakima JetStream Crossbars - 50" Long - Silver - Qty 2:Videos are provided as a guide only. Refer to manufacturer installation instructions and specs for complete information.
Hi everyone. It's Evangeline here at etrailer. And today we are looking at our Yakima Roofrack with JetStream Crossbars and SkyLine Towers here on our 2015 Jeep Grand Cherokee. On top of our system are the JetStream crossbars. These are Yakima's Aero style crossbars. You can see that they are wider or larger or thicker in the front, and they come to a narrow point at the end.
And that's to allow air to jet stream through them. These have a 165-pound weight capacity. Note when you do load it up, please double check your own roof weight capacity so that you don't overload it. So add whatever you're adding on there, plus your crossbar plus your towers, and that's what you will be following. JetStream Crossbars can be used with T-track accessories.
So those are the pallet accessories that fit into these tracks. I really like them because that allows you to make the most advantage of your crossbar length, but it's up to you. You can also get one side clamp around the bars. What we have right now are the 50-inch long crossbars. Now this is the recommended fit by Yakima for your vehicle, but it's also up to you depending on how much or how little overhang you want.
Let's take some measurements. In terms of overhang, that's how much further past the towers you're gonna get in terms of bar space, so we have it at 4 and 1/2 inches till the end cap and 3 and 1/2 inches until right before that end cap. Now let's talk about height. So first we're gonna see how high this sits up off our roof. So from the top of the roof to the top of the crossbars, it's 5 and 1/8 around.
And as for your space underneath your bars, like if you're carrying around ski and snowboard, so you have your binding set stick down. So you will have a clearance of about 4 inches from the top of the roof to the bottom of the bars. When using Skyline towers that work and mounts onto fixed mounting points, you are limited by where those points are on your vehicle. So here we have a crossbar spread measuring from the T-track to T-track of our crossbars of about 28, 29 inches. So that's gonna be your spread and that's something to keep in mind when you are carrying accessories. This system uses Skyline towers, and these are the style that fixed into your fixed mounting points. And you have a tower here with the ability to lock. So if you want to, you can use your own lock cores or pick some extra and switch out these plastic cores for those lock cores. This uses a fit kit for this vehicle. We use the landing pad 18, and that fits into the rails that are already on your vehicle. If you wanna increase your MPGs, or if you just wanna have a more streamline experience, you can take the crossbars and the towers off and just leave the landing pads on for a more streamlined process. And that's fine because they come with a cover just to keep them nice and safe and the dust and the dirt out of it. While you can mix and match with different Yakima Roofrack systems, like you can get round, square, or HD bars. I do like how this fit together. The install was pretty easy and let's take a look at that exact process. Before installing your roofrack, what you need to do first is set out your pieces and get familiar with them. I already installed one crossbar with its tower. So we're gonna install the second one together. What we're gonna do first is to take off the bolts that are on your tracks on the top, or your rails on the top. So you're gonna use the tool included with the landing pad and that's in go in there and loosen that bolt. Once you have it completely loose, you can then take it off and that's where you're gonna insert the landing pad. Your landing pad is gonna come with four different parts. So first you're gonna have this base and that's gonna pop right in there. Then you're gonna have the top portion and that fits into that pad. Next, you're gonna have these bolts and these washers. So first is the split washer and then the flat washer, and that goes in there to secure the pad to the hole in the bottom. One thing to make sure is that your skirt or that bottom piece has its arrows facing away from the vehicle. Once that is in place, you then use the other included tool, which is a hex wrench, and that's gonna tighten down on your bolt and completely mount in the landing pad. Once that's completely tightened down on both sides, you're then gonna install your crossbar. What we have right here are the JetStream crossbars, and these are gonna mount to our towers, the baseline towers. We're gonna set that up first. So your baseline tower is gonna have a clip, so that goes in there first. And then once that clip is in place, you then put this metal plate inside. Secure that plate, you're gonna use this Yakima tool, and you're gonna tighten down through the bottom, but don't tighten it down too much because you still need to slide it through the crossbar. Do the same for both plates and then you get attached to the towers to your crossbar. Take off the end cap on one side, then slide these through your tracks below your crossbar. Make sure you have it facing the right way with the towers facing outwards. On the bottom of your crossbar, you're gonna have some numbers and that's gonna make sure, or it's gonna help you make sure these towers are in equal distance from each other or from the end of your crossbar. So right here I have it 36 and this one says 36 as well. And now I'm gonna tighten them down with the included tool. So you can tighten it down until it clicks, that's how you know you have enough torque. Another thing is if you can't access the hole, you may need to tilt up on the tower a little bit, and that should give you plenty of clearance. So click it twice, right there. You're then gonna place it on your landing pad so make sure that your caps are open all the way, that way you have the full clearance to put it onto the step. Also, if you need a little extra height and traction up there, I use this Moki doorstep all the time and I recommend maybe checking that out too. You can get a friend to help you out, or you could just try to get this on there as safely as you can. Make sure those lids are down, and that will give you clearance to just drop it into the towers. With both sides lined up, you're then gonna tighten down this bolt here at the top. So turn it until it clicks. Once it's fully tightened down, you're then gonna enclose this cap on it. Do the same on the other side. And once that is done, that's it for the install. My final thoughts about this kit is I do like how it all works together. The JetStream bars are really nice when it comes to durability, as well as reducing wind noise and wind drag. I like the Skyline towers because they do provide that good sturdy base. Now, there are kits or roofracks that are more low profile and sit closer to your vehicles roof. In this case, the pros of having a little bit higher up is you do have more clearance for accessories or whatever you're carrying. It is up to you depending on your needs and situations that you need this roofrack for, but on its own with this vehicle, I think it's a great fit. It looks really good and it works pretty well. And that was our look here at our Yakima Roofrack with JetStream Crossbars and Skyline towers, here on our 2015 Jeep Grand Cherokee..

Extremely quiet, aerodynamic crossbars attach to Yakima towers to create a stylish roof rack for your vehicle. Rubber strips in T-slots push down to load carriers or accessories - no need to trim. Full-length aluminum bars maximize carrying capacity.Fit our Subaru Forester perfectly. Install was a breeze. For the money I wish they came with the core locks.
These crossbars were easy to install and adjust. Be sure to get all the pieces you need. There is no mention of the Landing Pads necessary to use these.
Very nice quality towers. Very heavy duty! They have a cool "snap" on / off mechanism for quick removal and installation.
Yakima Baseline with Yakima CBX 18 Cargo Box fitted on my 2012 Toyota Corolla S Sedan 2012.
Instructions were clear and roof rack was easily installed.
You guys provide great products and excellent customer service.
Thanks
The 50” jetstream cross bars were perfect for my 2019 Ford Ranger with my ARE cap. They are paired with the Yakima Skyline towers and appropriate landing pads (protip: call etrailer when you order to ensure you have the correct setup;)
These cross bars are SILENT on my cap. Zero wind noise. My daughter and I installed them on a Friday (I do recommend watching etrailer’s installation video in addition to the paper instructions) and left for a 700 mile weekend road trip the next day to pick up a kayak, paddle with friends downstate then drop her off at summer camp.
Even with empty Yakima Jaylows on top, no wind noise. Even with a boat in the Jaylows, no wind noise.
These are the sweetest rack’s I’ve had. With the Skyline towers and landing pads, they are also easy to take off and put on. Click click done.
They look good, too;)
etrailer customer service for the win, too. When I originally ordered, I did not order all the items I needed for installation. When I realized this, I called and they got me squared away.
I’m using these towers in conjunction with the JetStream cross bars. Assembly and setup was easy, all the tools you need are provided, except perhaps a tape measure for mounting. Looks and feels solid and well made. This is my second set of Yakima towers and cross bars. I plan to use this setup for an old roof top hard shell case and for my mountain bike to get to the trail head.
After completing the installation I took it out for a spin to check for wind noise at highway speeds. No discernible noise, I’m very happy about that as I really don’t want to remove these when not needed. For reference these are mounted on a 2019 Subaru Forester Touring with factory raised rails. Plenty of clearance for attaching equipment and gear.
Side note: the gentleman that assisted me on the phone while ordering was very pleasant and helpful, got me the right products very quickly as I was in a time crunch. Two thumbs up!
Yakima SkyLine Towers are well-designed and well-executed. They easily fit into the Yakima Landing Pads and form a tight fit when closed. And they also fit nicely into the Yakima JetStream Crossbars when following the Yakima instruction manual and various YouTube videos. I did run into a snag at first where I found the rubber seal on one SkyLine Tower getting caught on the JetStream Crossbar track, but after that I was careful not to let that happen with the other towers.
I find the appearance of the Yakima SkyLine Towers to match their level of quality in materials and design.
The landing Pad 18 was very easy to install on my 2015 Jeep Grand Cherokee and fit up nicely with my Yakima SkyLine towers.
Great company. Fast delivery.
Great product - very good quality. I liked the fact that I could keep the risers mounted on my car, but could remove the cross bars. It took me awhile to install - but I'm not very mechanically inclined.
etrailer installation videos were very helpful in selecting the product and first installation, although in practice, minor adjustments to method were required. Now after more than a dozen set ups, mounting the crossbars takes 15 minutes, and taking them off, 10. The system is well made, and when mounted, precise, strong, and reliable. Expensive perhaps compared to alternatives, but well worth the money. Used to carry a 50# sailboard 40 miles to the beach on weekends. ('11 Honda Fit)
One minor shortcoming: rubber sheet glued to base clips where they touch the car body have torn and moved sideways 1/16", but expect will be easily replaced with readily available 1/16" sheet rubber (e.g., shower pan liner) when the time comes.
Used in rain at least once, (sustained 60mph), with no leaks.
Good condition quality. Good and detailed instructions but aittle tedious install.
I needed crossbars for my new 2018 Mazda CX5, which came with flush side rails. The Yakima crossbars, along with the RidgeLine Towers and the the vehicle specific kit worked great. The installation (10-15 min) is super easy. They look cool, and performed great (I strapped 160-lbs rooftop tent on them!). Removing them is also super easy (10 min tops). Highly recommend.
Amazing quality easy set up fast shipping buy the locks the 4 pack With this fast shipping super impressed
Because of the 'rona-induced supply chain interruptions, I was unable to purchase all of my Yakima components from etrailer, but I did get these, and they are typically excellent Yakima components. Well-made, easy to install, good directions, no problems.
I chose the Yakima roof rack, because It spanned 50 inches, rather than the leading competitor's 47 inches, making it better for tying down 4 ft x 8 ft sheets of building material. It also seemed to be about half the price. It took me about 2 hours to put it all together and mount it on my car. The instructions were all visual and there was one little pic I didn't understand, but the equipment seemed to go together correctly anyway. Now that it's adjusted, it should be fairly easy to remove and replace next time. I did need to put on super tacky gloves to get the covers off. Although it seemed unnecessarily complicated, I would still choose this product again.
Yakima Jetstream cross bars.. nice bars worth the extra money. can be adjusted for pitch/angle of attack to "tune" the air profile.. mine have absolutely no high speed wind noise or whistling.. rubber weather strip underneath further smoothes the bar profile.. quietest roof rack system I have ever owned..
I bought a 2014 Jeep Grand Cherokee. To use my Yakima Skyline Towers, I had to install these landing pads in the rack rail attached to the roof. The installation was easy, and the pads serve their purpose. But they don't seem to be engineered as secure as I would like. They have more flexibility than I think they should. The bolt head is over an inch from where it screws into the roof. I think Yakima could have engineered something more secure. In fairness to Yakima, the Jeep rack rail is different than any other rack system I've seen and is incompatible with any other system. But I am assuming that these landing pads will work OK with a full load and that the Yakima engineers have done an adequate job. This summer they will be put to the test for 3,000 miles. Note: the Yakima windshield fairing falls on the glass in the moon roof rendering the moon roof unopenable so long as the fairing is used.
I have a Buick Envision and it seemed as if it would be difficult to get the correct rack, but it turned out to be easy. I entered my vehicle info and was directed to the Yakima Skyline with flush rails. It was easy to install and they look great. I will be able to take my canoe out with no problem! Joe
I purchased the Baseline towers with base clip fit kit and jetstream crossbars. They were great quality and the instruction materials included for assembly and installation were great. I was able to assemble and install on my Lexus CT 200 in about an hour. It looks nice too!
Not only did etrailer have a necessary component to my new Yakima rack system that no other retailer had in stock, their price was fair and they shipped quickly. Thanks etrailer!
These really look so much better then the factory racks! Easy to install. Easy to order! Great product!
These towers (Y00148) and the Landing Pads (Y00244) are needed to mount the cross-bars on my 2015 Jeep Grand Cherokee. The Jeep has flush rails, with an open channel along the top.
They are very heavy duty, typical of Yakima stuff.
Worked great.
The crossbars are light and very strong. They fit perfectly and installed easily.
