How Does Yakima Roof Rack Install on 2018 Grand Cherokee Trailhawk with E-Group Rails

Question:

Hi, Ive been going through the same thing as a lot of other 2018 GC TH owners regarding the flush mount roof rails. We DO have aluminum channel mounted on top of the black plastic trim. The difference is the channels black/grey anodized aluminum mounted to the car with 4 torx/washer mount screws. The only difference thats apparentinch is the color, but Im not sure what lies beneath in these two different colored rails chrome vs black? I successfully mounted the Yakima Towers and Landing Pads #18 , but its just a single screw mount that looks and feels when shaking car via crossbar a little precarious. Additionally, the directions from Yakima says theres 3 screws holding the channel to the car and were to remove the most forward and reward ones. I have 4 on my TH? So, am I screwing up? pardon the pun. Finally, and to be clear, this not the black plastic trim piece placed on some GC for what? I dont know reason, this is an actual channel. I cant believe Jeep would build this rugged beast and not allow for a the roof rack system to placed inside the black channel. Please help us get to the bottom of this. Thanks, Gerard

We installed the Yakima JetStream Roof Rack part numbers # Y00425, # Y53TR, and # Y00244 on a 2018 Jeep Grand Cherokee similar to your Trailhawk and we video recorded the process. If you fast-forward to the 3:09 mark of the video I attached you'll see how we intalled the kit and how it went. The forward and rearword most screws are to be used like you mentioned. Jeep may have a Mopar rack that installs differently on the rails, but the way Yakima recommends this rack install is the only way we can recommend.
