Recommended Roof Rack and Rooftop Cargo Carrier For 2021 Jeep Grand Cherokee

Question:

A lot to cover here - I like the advice Kyle S. has been giving to owners of Jeeps similar to mine. Just want to verify the same Yakima part#s or other options for my application. I have longitudinal aluminum rails. I need longer bars to reach from outside the vehicle were 59inch and 50 hopefully without standing on the open door sills, and no wind noise. We like the sunroof or at least the vent open whenever possible. This vehicle will be seeing duty for kayaks and 4x8foot DIY sheets, plus I need a recommendations for a roof carrier box of some kind, like the aerodynamic ski/cargo carriers I saw when I used to live in Colorado. My new popup Aliner RV doesnt have a lot of storage room, so camping cargo will be distributed throughout the camper, Jeep trunk, and Jeep roof. I finally installed the Prodigy P2 I bought from you a few years ago that was intended for my 2015 Jeep GC 3.6L, but never used, as my RV intro was delayed to now. The towing difference between the 3.6L and 5.7L is night and day, like its not even there except for seeing it out my rearview mirror. Thanks in advance

As long as the Aluminum rails on your 2021 Jeep Grand Cherokee are the Chrome/Black rails then the Yakima Roof Rack System you were looking at that uses 50" Yakima JetStream Crossbars in Black # Y00425, SkyLine Towers for Yakima Crossbars # Y53TR, and Landing Pad 18 # Y00244 would be the correct option for you.

Adding the Yakima Same Key System (SKS) Lock Cores (QTY 4) # Y07204 will secure the roof rack to your Jeep to deter theft.

The JetStream are have a very aerodynamic design and Wind Ridges to prevent wind noise and vibration and will give you plenty of useable crossbar space for a kayak carrier like the Yakima JayLow Kayak Carrier w/ Tie-Downs - J-Style or Post Style # Y04073 to carry up to two kayaks.

For a roof top cargo box I recommend the Thule Motion XT Rooftop Cargo Box - 16 cu ft - Titan Glossy # TH629707 which is confirmed to fit your Jeep and will give you 16 cubic feet of storage when you are on the road with your popup camper.

Lastly it is worth noting that roof rack manufacturer's including Yakima do not recommend opening the sunroof with a roof rack installed due to potential clearance issues, but if you try to open the sunroof slowly with someone outside of the vehicle watching the clearance you may be able to get away with opening it. I will say that even though the aero bars are quiet, with the sunroof open there will be quite a bit of wind noise.

I included videos for the products mentioned for you to take a look at.
