Video Transcript for Review of Erickson Ratchet Straps - Adjustable Ratchet Tie-Down Straps - EM97JR

Michael: Hi there. I'm Michael with etrailer.com. Today, we're going to take a quick look at the Erickson Sliding Ratchet Tie-Down Straps. These are one inch wide by 14 feet long straps that will help to secure your gear in your truck bed, trailer, or cargo carrier. They've got nice durable hooks on both ends, so you can get these connected just about any location on those truck beds and so forth. These do have a safe working load limit of 400 pounds and a maximum load or break strength of 1,200 pounds.

So each strap is rated for those numbers combined. You're going to be able to safely strap down a 800- pound load so that you can take that along with you. And that's thanks to our durable polyester webbing here. And this is going to help resist tears and abrasions and will allow you that a 400-pound safe working load limit for each strap, but that's pretty standard for most straps. It's not too exciting. The real star of the show here is this ratcheting slide.

With most of your ratcheting straps, you're going to have a hook end that's connected to your ratcheting device here. And so, that's going to limit where your ratchet is going to be. Sometimes, it's only a few inches away from your rail. Sometimes, that can cause it to be right up against your furniture or other cargo that you're carrying, where it could potentially cause damage as you're going down the road. This is really nice because it has this little bar here that goes from the lock position to the open position.Let me open this up so you can see how this will operate for you.

If we move this to the open position, that's going to allow us to pull out as much slack as we need, so we can adjust this to get this ratchet exactly where we want it, where it's not going to be rubbing up against anything. So it's going to give us that adjustability. And then when we're ready and we have it where we want it, we can simply move that over, lock it in place, and that's going to prevent it from pulling out.The other side of our ratchet is exactly like most ratchets. So we just pull out the slack, get it to where we need it, and then we can start ratcheting it closed, pull in any extra slack to make sure that it's going to be nice and tight. This does have the vinyl coated steel S hooks that will allow us to get connected to the side of our truck bed or trailer rails.

They also have these caps that are attached like so, and that allows you to just complete that loop so that you won't have to worry about these coming disconnected if there's some slack while you're getting everything set up, and that will allow them to stay in place. Kind of a simple design for a common problem, easily comes on and off. Just slides right in place there. We're also going to have a nice rubber, molded handle. So it's going to be very easy to use as we're ratcheting in all that excess. And our hook and loop closure on the ratchet itself will wrap up any of our excess webbing, so you can easily just fold that over top of itself, then wrap that up so that it is nice and secured. You don't have to worry about it flapping in the wind, where it could potentially get damaged, start to unravel, that sort of thing. So it very easily just ramps around on itself.Plus, it's going to be great for storage, not only while we're traveling, but also when we want to put these away, because one of the biggest problems with ratcheting straps, I'm sure you've experienced for yourself, is that they get tangled up really easily when you have them in the back of your truck bed, or something like that. So having that hook and loop strap there is going to help us to keep it all organized. But really, this is a really nice option. I'm very impressed with it. I've never seen anything like this before, where you're able to adjust where the ratchet is placed. So I feel like that would be a huge benefit, especially if you are carrying sensitive equipment in the back of your trailer or pickup truck, where you don't want that ratchet to be banging against it with all the road shock and everything. So if you are in the market for something like this, I'd say this is going to be a great option. Again, just make sure that it's going to work for the load that you're carrying. This combined set will have that 800-pound safe working load limit. But if you get another couple of straps, that'll bump up the weight as well. So definitely check this out. I think you'll be very happy with it. T.That's going to complete our look for today. Again, I'm Michael with etrailer.com. Thanks for watching..
