Notes:

  • Do not use this heater with a 100-percent antifreeze solution.
  • Do not start your engine with the heater plugged in.

Start your engine easier and warm your cab faster in cold weather with this immersion heater. Heating your engine fluid keeps it from thickening and freezing, resulting in more reliable start-ups and smoother operation altogether. It also lessens the workload and extends the life of your vehicle's battery. And because starting your engine when it's warm creates less condensation in the engine block than starting it when it's cold, your engine will get better initial fuel vaporization, which causes fewer emissions and less pollution.

This immersion heater installs by screwing into your oil pan or your engine block. The power cord on the heater is removable so that you won't need to buy a whole new heater if the cord gets damaged. The cord can be routed through your grille for easy access to a 120-volt outlet or extension cord. If needed, a longer or shorter cord (sold separately) can be purchased to better fit your application. Make sure the heating element is fully submerged in the oil or coolant before plugging it in.

Works great! I built a preheater out of 1" pipe and used your heater with a tiny thermostat for heating the fuel for my converted hot air furnace which burns used motor oil in my workshop.

I have recently purchased this product as an experiment and not for its intended use. I purchased this product to heat oil on a small homemade quench tank. So far so good! I have not been able to get an exact temperature of the oil but it works for what I intended it to be. The slight problem was the threads. If you purchase this product for any fluids under pressure you may have to rechase the threads. I could not find any couplers to fit over the 1” NPT. Where I do not have fluids under pressure I was able to get one full turn out of the threads with no leakage.

Hi' I bought this heater for my snowblower motor. (22Hp. twin Briggs & Sratton) I just bought a 1/2" x 3/8" bushing (motor drain plug is 3/8"), 2- 1/2" unions. And there I GO. Thank You! & Okee-Dokee I'm in busness.

The heater works great. Heated 8 quarts of 50W racing oil to 230deg.F in about 40min. in a dry sump tank.
I need to preheat the straight 50W oil prior to startup on a cold engine.

  • Sealing Threads of Kats Immersion Heater KH30904

  • Does Kat's Heaters Oil and Coolant Heater Install in Drain Plug of Oil Pan
The Kat's Heater part # KH30904 is not a drain plug cooler and instead would install in a port on an oil pan or in the coolant system. You'd need to find a 1/2 inch NPT port in the coolant system or on your oil pan to use it. Or if you let me know the year/make/model of the vehicle I can see if there's a block heater that installs in one of the cartridge holes.

  • Will Kats Heaters Oil and Coolant Immersion Heater Fit 1991 Volkswagen Vanagon
From what I could find the M14x1.5 oil drain plug on your 1991 Volkswagen Vanagon looks like it has a 1/2" diameter. The Kat's Heaters Oil and Coolant Immersion Heater # KH30904 you referenced has a 1/2" diameter as well but they likely have different thread sizes. I recommend using a different type of heater like the Handi-Heat Magnetic Heater w/ Thermostat # KH1155 instead since it simply sits on your oil pan.

  • Where Does Kats Heaters Oil and Coolant Immersion Heater Install?
The Kat's Heaters Oil and Coolant Immersion Heater # KH30904 is a 3-3/4" long immersion heater which simply screws into either the oil pan or engine block of your vehicle. Once inserted you'll only need to route the power cord through the grille and plug it in and it'll be ready to go. The cord does detach from the screw-in element so you won't need to permanently route the cord.

  • Recommended Pad Type Heater for 1-Gallon Water Tank
Since you have an unusual application with only 1 gallon of water to protect from freezing I suggest you consider options other than the immersion heater # KH30904. Also note that this item is not rated for use with drinking water supplies. Kat's Heaters also offer heaters in a pad type, such as # KH24500 (500 watts), # KH24250 (250 watts) and # KH24100 (100 watts). These are installed with the included 3M adhesive pad. The 100 watt model # KH24100 is ideal for water tanks up to 2-gallon...
