Video Transcript for Aries Round Nerf Bars Installation - 2016 Chevrolet Silverado 2500

Today, on our 2016 Chevrolet Silverado 2500, we'll be having a look at and installing the Aries Round Nerf Bars, part number AA204045. Here's what our running boards look like installed. As you can see, not only do they give our truck an aggressive look, but they also serve a purpose. They make it a lot easier for us to get in and out of our truck. The non-slip rubber pad, here, on the top, gives you a nice place to step to get in and out of the truck, especially if it's raining or you have mud on your shoes or your boots. Not only do we have this nice step feature for our front seat passengers, but we also have it for our rear seat passengers. Our Nerf bars are constructed of a very durable, high carbon steel, and are also powder-coated in a semi-gloss black powder-coat finish, which will give us many years of rust free service. Our Nerf bar has a three inch tubular steel design, which gives us plenty of surface area for us to step on to get in and out of our vehicle easily. Okay, we'll start our installation on the driver side in the very front on our Chevrolet Silverado, and we'll go to the bottom of our rocker panel, right here, and we'll point out the locations.

The very first hole, here, we'll be using. We'll come back to the second one, which is basically at the end of our driver's door. We'll skip the third one. We'll use the fourth one, and then we'll use the very back one, which is the fifth one. We'll start off by getting our hardware ready for one of our brackets. The hardware is exactly the same for all eight of our brackets on the truck.

We have four brackets per side. We have two bigger bolts - this is what secures our tube step itself to the bracket, and the smaller ones secure our bracket to the truck. We'll make sure we drop on lock washers, and then flat washers onto our bolts. Same for the bigger bolts, too. It's just they're bigger lock washers and bigger flat washers.

We have it in that order, there. Now we can install the bracket. Our bracket will go like this, basically. This is where our tube step will rest on. Now we'll get the hardware installed, and install the bracket. We'll start off by taking one of these speed clips, here, and insert it onto the hole in the bottom of our rocker panel.

Slide the bracket up and bolt it to that. Again, we're using our smaller bolts for this part. Then there's a weld nut right here, in the rocker panel. We'll just secure the bracket on the back. We'll leave everything loosely attached for now, as long as it's started. Now we'll go back to the second bracket and do the same. Okay, now we're back to our third bracket, which is the fourth hole, because we're skipping the third one in the rocker panel. This one's slightly different, because there is no weld nut right here. Instead, we'll pop out this plastic cover, here, with a flat head screwdriver, and we'll slide in one of our speed nuts through the bigger hole on over to where the smaller hole is. This will create our nut. In this particular application, I find it easier to do the bottom one first, so it'll help hold the bracket in place so you can position the speed nut easier. With both of those started we'll do our very back one, which is just like the one we just did. With all of our brackets loosely installed, now we can set our tube step on top. Now, our tube steps are side specific, so we'll just set it on top of our brackets and we'll start our hardware. We'll just screw in our larger bolts into the tube step. We'll leave these bolts loose for now, just like we did with the brackets, 'cause we'll want to tighten the brackets up first. Now we'll just keep running our way down, until we have all of our hardware installed. All right, now that we have all the bolts in place that hold the tube steps to the brackets, we'll begin the process of tightening up the bolts that hold the brackets to the truck using a 13 millimeter socket. With all of our brackets snugged down now, we want to make sure our bar itself is actually level before we snug it down. We have some adjustment in it, we can just slide it as needed to get it where we want it. Use a level for this or if you look down the side of it you can see how level it is. Now that we've ensured our bar is level, we can tighten up the bar to the brackets using a 16 millimeter socket. Now, on the passenger side it installs the exact same way as the driver side does, with one exception being if you have a diesel truck, your diesel exhaust fluid tank is located in this general area right here, and there's alternate brackets for the front passenger mount. Just refer to your instructions that come with your Aries steps in order to install this bracket versus the one that we used.
