Video Transcript for ProGrip Hunter's Hoist with Pulley and Rope Lock Review

Hey guys. Randy here, at etrailer.com. Today, we're taking a look at a really good solution for game hoisting or even for getting heavier items up off the ground and out of your way. This is from Pro Grip. This is going to be a three eighths ratchet style hoist. Now the system is going to give us a 500 pound capacity. That's going to be great for a lot of game.

Maybe, say, larger elk, moose, stuff like that, you'll need a heavier system for that. But something that I really like about this one is the way it releases. So generally, in lifting game, we're going to lift it up higher than this, or we might want to be storing some bags like this up and overhead. So as we get it up there, as it's mounted up higher on the roof, we'd have to get up there and get to this release button, so I have to get out a ladder or something like that.In this case, you can see we've got our release rope here, our release tether. So we'll simply pull up, pull down on that release and then just allow it to come on down.

At that point, we're ready to get our next item on there, whether that's a deer that we need to get skinned out or gear that we need to get stored up and out of the way.Now I've hoisted a lot of deer for cleaning them. Basically what tends to happen without a system like this is that you're going to have a couple guys on a rope. We use a vice mounted to a steel plate and we need to pull this over. We need to get it set in the vice, and then we need somebody to clamp that vice down. It takes a couple people.

This is going to eliminate the need for any additional people. So you won't have to bug your neighbors. You won't have to have a buddy there. If you go out bow hunting by yourself or something like that, this is really going to take care of it all. Allow you to get that game up as high as really you want to, we've got a total 20 foot section.

I think really, in total, if our rope we're up to about here, it would be really close to 20 feet. So inaudible 00:01:51 taller trees you can get connected to. I think it's going to be an ideal solution for anything like that. Now, storage, also. This can come in handy. We can get items quite high up over things, and then also have an easy way to release them. If we don't want to climb up a ladder each and every time we wanted to get them down. I also really liked the construction. It feels nice and heavy duty. We do have a release button here as well. If it's low enough and we don't necessarily want to pull down on that rope, you can see we just press on that release. That'll also allow it to come down. The pair record release here is plenty long enough. So even if we get our ratchet up there quite a ways, we'll be able to get ahold of it and release that. The hooks are going to be rubber coated on each end. Now, of course, using a single connection point like this on game, you're going to need to pick up a gambrel or a leg spreader, so you can have something to connect to and lift it up. Unless you just want to lift it by one leg. That will be a few.The rope itself is really nice. It doesn't give you a lot of heat because as you are lowering this, we can bring it down. Slide our hand a little bit and continue to bring it down further. And I like that it doesn't have a lot of friction. It's more like a Marine rope. It's more smooth and it's got a good diameter. You can get plenty of grip on it. The hook on the other end, it's going to be rubber coated, just like the one we have down here. And the pulley, it's got a chrome finish to it. Should help resist corrosion for quite a while. If you're anything like me, you don't want to spend a whole lot of time outside cleaning game. More of that happens in a garage, in a shop or something like that, where this would be just about perfect.Something else I like about this system that we don't get out of other game hoist systems. So this is really compact and lightweight. So this is something that you could pack with you up the mountain, hang your game. Not have to have it laying on the ground to get it dressed out. And I also like that with that compact size, it's easy to store. Unlike, let's say the hitch mounted game hanger. So we can mount it in the hitch, we've got the tube that comes out, the pole that comes up and out. It's got a crank handle and a winch. That's pretty heavy. Now you're probably going to have it in the back of your truck, but it's taking up room and it's making noise as you're driving around. I really am not a huge fan of that type. I'd rather use something like this. Find a connection point on the tree if I had to do it outside. Now, when using your hoist, you're of course going to want a secure connection point at the top and the bottom. We're just going to use the rubber coated hook that we saw earlier. We'll hook that into our gambrel or whatever item it is that we're going to be lifting up. One thing to keep in mind when you're creating your upper attachment point. With the pulley being fixed, we're not going to be able to lift our ratcheting mechanism all the way up to our connection. So from the top of the hook to the bottom of the pulley here, it's 14 and a half inches. So you want to be sure that whatever you're going to try to lift, you've got this 14 and a half inches above it. At that point, just like we saw, it's time to pull down. Now, this is about. I think it's about 175 pounds, 200 pounds, give or take. And it really is quite easy for one person to lift it up. I think that's going to work right up to the capacity. I mean, you might have to use two hands and really pull down on it quite hard at 500 pounds, but overall it works pretty well. Then of course, to lower it, you need to pull down. We're going to release our lock mechanism and then just allow it to feed out..

What I expected

Very flimsy and difficult to operate . Doesn’t pull much weight. Also very difficult to unlock and lower items. Certainly not as advertised. Recommend buying something else. Also etrailer charges return shipping at excessive rates. Steer clear.

Hello Alcian S.
I am very happy to report
that your service was quite excellent, the product is excellent, and the price was excellent. I will definitely be ordering from your company again whenever a need arises. Thanks for being a great American company.

God bless all............

P.S. As you can see in the pic, from now on I will be removing and installing my AC unit with your Progrip Hoist device.

This item was purchased for my upcoming hunting season and would not be able to review it properly until then when I have an opportunity to use it but for now I have handle it with a small test load and I believe it will meet all my needs. A slightly longer and beefier release rope might be nice but I can modify that easily myself should I feel it is necessary.

I use the product to pull xmas boxes about 15 ft off the ground on a shelf on storage shed. I was disappointed that realest pulling robe did not work at all had to use a screw driver to disengage pulley.BOXES ONLY WEIGHT ABOUT 20TO 30LBS.IT SEEMS theres a def on the release hinge.

I bought this hoist to move items up into and down from my attic. It works great for that purpose, EXCEPT that the rope is a few feet too short. I have a 3' safety railing around the stair opening, so I expected the rope might be short. As other reviewers have suggested, 25' would be just right and I would have gladly paid more. Instructions would have been helpful for those of us with no pulley experience, but overall I'm pleased with this product.

Works as expected

Very well built unit with rugged rope. I bought it to use with a zip line I installed for getting small log pieces down a hill behind my home. Ratchet worked great and was easily able to lift the logs and hold them in place while they traveled to the firewood pile at the end of the zip line. Really a great product.
Thanks Tim

by:

works as described, everything needed to start hoisting right away!

Just what I was looking for! It is going to come in very handy for lifting items. Thank you for the easy to use product. It will be used for my parents to lift items in and out of there garage...mainly for a 80 - 100 lb gas tank.

With the double pulley system this product is of great value. Being a little handicap helps lift the wild boars we catch to them smoke. Plan to buy now couple more now that it works great.

by:

I never did get an Email when my order was sent with tracking number. But that's ok, received it in a fast manner. Looks like it will work well. Need them to hang my topper from the roof inside my metal building.

by:

Excellent product, highly recommended!

by:

Fast delivery and just as advertised. I call that a win win.

by:

Will be using for hoisting big game up into vehicles usually hunting by myself so these should come real handy.

by:

I bought a hoist from this distributor because they provided a video demonstrating its use and advantages. Great quality product, just as advertised, and quickly shipped/received. Excellent service! Thank you.

by:

by:

Did not work very well. Got hung up a l ot.

by:

Very good hoist for the price. The release isn't real smooth but it works. Would be nice to have a longer length of rope, maybe 25' vs the current 20'.

by:

order arrived earlier than expected and immediately placed into service in my garage. Worked extremely well for the job.

  • Hoist Recommendation Without Gap In Travel To Lift Tires Into Rafters of Garage
The chrome pulley on the ProGrip Hunter's Hoist with Pulley and Rope Lock - 20' Long x 3/8" Diameter part # 317-404780 is fixed and does not move so the 14-1/2" between the pulley and the top hook cannot be shortened. There will be that 14-1/2" of distance that you cannot lift the tire with the hoist. You may consider a Dutton-Lainson StrongArm Electric Winch w/ Remote and Pulley Block, AC Powered - 1,200 lb # DL25727 which allow you lift the tires all the way up to the garage's cross...

  • ProGrip Hunters Hoist with Pulley and Rope Lock Height and Weight Capacity
The rope of the ProGrip Hunter's Hoist with Pulley and Rope Lock # 317-404780 is 20 feet long but since this is a pulley system that would mean the overall height it can lift is less than that since the rope has to travel from the ground to the pulley block and then to the person holding the rope. So realistically it would have ability to lift around 12 to 15 feet depending on how tall the person is on the other end and how high they were willing to reach up. The weight capacity is 300...

  • Recommended Way to Help Lift Rooftop Tent Off Of Roof
I do have an option for you but there is not a longer arm that can be added to the Viking Solutions Rack Jack II Hoist part # 310-VRJ001. There is also not a hoist that offers more lift than this so your only other option would be some sort of pulley system like the ProGrip Hunter's Hoist w/ Pulley part # 317-404780.
