Powerful, Portable Generator

A-iPower SUA2000i outlets

The A-iPower SUA2000i inverter generator packs 2,000 watts of clean AC power to get you up and running whether you're at the campsite, worksite, or tailgate party. This powerful generator comes with (1) 120V outlet for powering household appliances, tools, and electronic devices. It features (1) 120V L5-30R twist-lock outlet for large appliances and motorized tools with greater electrical demands. Lastly, it includes (1) 12V 8.3-amp DC outlet that charges automotive and marine batteries.

As an added convenience, the SUA2000i also includes a TT-30R adapter that lets you plug your RV into the generator's 120V 30-amp L5-30R twist-lock outlet. This ensures you'll have access to electricity no matter where you take your RV or if there's a power outage at the campground.

Finally, this compact unit weighs only 46 lbs and has a built-in ergonomic handle, making it easy to take with you no matter where you go.

Safe for Sensitive Electronic Devices

Electronic devices are made with delicate circuitry that requires steady, controlled electrical current. The current produced by standard generators, however, is uncontrolled, allowing extreme fluctuations in power. These fluctuations can damage your sensitive electronic devices. This generator, on the other hand, has a built-in inverter that controls the voltage that is produced. This important feature ensures the generator is safe to use with your electronic equipment such as cell phones, computers, and medical devices.

Easy-Start Engine

This generator features a recoil pull handle that provides easy manual startup. It uses standard unleaded gas, so there is no need to mix gas and oil.

Before starting your generator, ensure nothing is connected to the outlets. Start your generator and let the engine run for a few minutes to warm up and stabilize. Once the generator is up and running, follow the recommended order of operation: connect the device with the highest starting watts first, like your air conditioner or refrigerator, then work your way down to the device with the lowest starting watts. By connecting devices in this order, you'll ensure the generator has enough power to start high-wattage loads.

Built-in Parallel Ability

A-iPower SUA2000i inverter generator has built-in parallel ability

This A-iPower generator has built-in parallel capability, which lets you pair it with another A-iPower inverter generator. This allows you to run equipment with higher electrical demands by increasing the power output. You can pair it directly with another 2,000 watt generator (sold separately) to increase power output to 3,800 watts. Simply plug the included cables into the corresponding parallel ports on each generator's control panel.

Economy Mode Provides Fuel Efficiency

eco mode

With the flip of a switch, you can activate the generator's economy mode feature. This mode adjusts engine speed to match the power demands of your connected devices. When using low-draw devices like tablets, cell phones, televisions, and radios, the engine runs more efficiently to save fuel and keeps noise to a minimum. The engine only runs at normal speed when additional power is needed. For example, when using a power tool, the engine will only speed up when the device is actively being used. This mode is not only kinder to your pocketbook and your ears, it's also easier on the environment.

Safety Features

safety lights

This generator comes with a number of safety features to protect you, the environment, and the generator itself. The control panel contains 2 warning lights that indicate low oil and overloading. When the engine is low on oil, it will automatically shut down to prevent damage. If an overload is detected, either by exceeding the generator's limits or a power surge, the circuit breaker will stop supplying power to the connected devices. The digital voltage regulator assists in minimizing voltage fluctuations which helps to maintain a steady flow of electricity. Also, a built-in spark arrestor helps prevent any sparking that might burn someone or start a fire.

Choosing a Generator

When choosing a generator, you need to match the generator's starting and running output with the electrical demands of the equipment you want to operate.

Power Demands

Starting (surge) wattage is the power a device requires at startup. Running (rated) wattage is the power needed to keep the device running. A large appliance with an electric motor such as a furnace, refrigerator, air conditioner, or washing machine may require 2 to 3 times more starting wattage than running wattage.

It is always best to start your generator with no load connected, then add each device one at a time. Additionally, a good practice to consider is connecting your devices in order from highest starting watts to lowest starting watts. As you connect and start devices, your available wattage decreases. This order of operation allows you to start devices with the highest power demands when there is more power available.

Will This Generator Run My RV Air Conditioner?

At etrailer, we perform numerous tests on generators that put them through real-world experience. An extensive part of this testing includes starting and running RV air conditioners. The following table will help you decide if the e3200 inverter generator has enough power to handle this critical function in your RV.

* The starting wattage on air conditioners can vary greatly depending on several factors, including the assistance of built-in capacitors and cold starts. Because of this, we can't list a standard starting wattage as every application can be different.

Determining Your Power Needs

The following section provides calculations for wattage estimates. This will give you an overall picture of your potential power usage and help you decide on the generator that is right for you.

Industry Standard Calculation

The Industry Standard Calculation is a quick and easy way to determine your required wattage. It may provide some padding in your wattage requirements, which could give you more power than you actually need, but you shouldn't have to worry about not having enough power. The following steps will help you quickly calculate the correct size generator to meet your application.

As stated earlier, you should always start your generator without any load, and then connect each device one at a time. The following calculation requires this approach to work. However, using this calculation removes the worry of connecting devices in a certain order.

1. Determine the starting watts and running watts for the devices that you want to plug into the generator.

a. Find the starting (surge) watts and running (rated) watts for each device that you want to plug into the generator. Look for a sticker or plate on each device or check your owner's manuals.

b. If your device or manual only shows amps and volts, watts can also be determined through a simple formula. (Amps x Volts = Watts)

c. List all of your starting watts and running watts as seen in Table 1 below.

Table 1

Example DevicesStarting WattsRunning Watts
Air compressor2,0001,000
Refrigerator1,600800
Microwave01,000
Blender850400

2. To find the total starting watts required, add the starting watts for the device with the highest value to the running watts of all the other devices from Table 1.

2,000 + 800 + 1,000 + 400 = 4,200 total starting watts

3. To find the total running watts, add all of the running watts together from Table 1.

1,000 + 800 + 1,000 + 400 = 3,200 total running watts

To run all of these devices simultaneously, you would require a generator with at least 4,200 starting watts and 3,200 running watts.

Advanced, Precise Calculation

While the method for calculating your power needs outlined above will work, it isn't the most precise. If you aren't afraid of doing a little more math, you can use the Advanced, Precise Calculation to get a more accurate idea of how much power you will need and potentially save yourself some money. Because the calculation above pads in enough power to ensure you can start your devices in any order, it may point you to a bigger and more expensive generator than you need. However, by following the more regimented, order-of-operations calculation below, you'll get a much more precise idea of how much power you need, which could in turn point you to a smaller and less expensive generator.

Again, you should always start your generator without any load, and then connect each device one at a time. The following calculation also requires that you start your devices in order from highest starting watts to lowest starting watts. When you connect devices in this order, you can start high demand devices when there is more power available.

1. Determine the starting watts and running watts for each device that you want to plug into the generator.

a. Find the starting (surge) watts and running (rated) watts for each device that you want to plug into the generator. Look for a sticker or plate on each device or check your owner's manuals.

b. If your device or manual only shows amps and volts, watts can also be determined through a simple formula. (Amps x Volts = Watts)

c. List out these devices from highest starting watts to lowest starting watts as seen in Table 2 below.

Table 2

Example DevicesStarting WattsRunning Watts
Air compressor2,0001,000
Refrigerator1,600800
Microwave01,000
Blender850400

2. To find the total running watts, add all of the running watts together from Table 2.

1,000 + 800 + 1,000 + 400 = 3,200 total running watts

3. In Table 3, shown below, the values from Table 2 are used to calculate the highest total starting watts required as devices are connected and running. This number represents the highest power requirement you will encounter as you connect all of your devices to the generator. To find this, add the starting watts of each new device you connect to the combined running watts of all connected devices. The highest of these numbers will be the total starting watts required. And again, remember to always connect devices in order from highest starting watts to lowest starting watts.

Table 3

DeviceStarting WattsRunning Watts of All Connected DevicesTotal Starting Watts Required
1. Air compressor2,000 +0 (nothing connected)= 2,000
2. Refrigerator1,600 +1,000 (air compressor)= 2,600
3. Microwave1,000* +1,800 (air compressor + refrigerator)= 2,800
4. Blender850 +2,800 (air compressor + refrigerator + microwave)= 3,650

* Even though the microwave does not have starting watts listed, you have to account for the power needed to actually run it.

850 + 2,800 = 3,650 highest total starting watts required

In order to run all of these devices simultaneously, you would require a generator with at least 3,650 starting watts and 3,200 running watts.

Is working great after a year, thank you etrailer for follow up.

by:

We used it to keep the battery charged and odd and ends worded like a champ and we can still talk with it running what more could you ask for.

Hanger

5/13/2019

Well it has been a year and it still runs like a champ. We have ran it all night for heat and it runs 8-12 hrs on a tank of gas and we stay warm. We have since bought an electric coffee pot to and it works great.

by:

Product arrived ahead of the original delivery date and was in perfect shape. Added Oil and Gas, fired up on the 2nd pull. I took it with me to a remote cabin site and proceeded to use if for 2 days running saws and a compressor. Started with no more than 2 pulls each time and ran perfectly. Also runs very quiet, had no problems carrying on a conversation while standing next to it. I recommend it to anyone that needs a small Generator.

by:

I love this little generator. We got this as a backup for power outages and also to run our camper when boondocking. The generator worked great during a couple of hurricane related power outages last year to power lamps, satellite internet modem and wi-fi routers, and pumps and heaters on my saltwater aquarium. We have used it on a number of occasions to run the 5000 btu window unit in our camper along with the camper’s other 120 VAC equipment. We haven’t tried running the 1300 Watt microwave yet. The only time I had it overload was when trying to run a small keurig coffee maker and the air-conditioner simultaneously. I’ve since measured power usage of both and found that the Keurig spikes to about 1350 Watts for 30-60 seconds and that the AC unit uses about 600 Watts running (1600 Watts start-up). So, the 2 together are over what the generator is rated to produce. This is such a lightweight and quiet unit. I have also used it to power an air compressor and circular saw on a part of my property where I don’t have power. It didn’t miss a beat.

I still love this little generator. Super quiet. Starts on the first or second pull. Great product. I may order a second to tether together when we want to run more off of the generator.

by:

i want to start off by saying Overall i really like this Generator. i was wanting one i could easily carry around when i need a little a/c power, especially when the power goes out here in Oklahoma due to weather related issues which happen every year, WITHOUT having to spend $1K for "other" units. i gave this 4 Stars (would have given it 4-1/2 if they had that rating) due to a couple of issues right out of the box. the first thing is: to check the oil level (or fill) you must remove 2 Phillips screws from the side panel and then the panel is still a little of a pain to pry off because of the tight fitting pins on the cover and the rubber grommets they plug into. and the other issue is the oil filler port is a little tricky to get to even with the supplied funnel (kind of a bad angle i think, JMO). These are NOT a huge issue by any means, just a little poor planning when designing this unit. NOW, on to the Good Points. After i added the Oil and Gas i pulled on the Starter Rope a few times before i switched it to "START". i think it took 3 pulls and it fired right up. within just a little bit of time i swithced it to "ON" and it smoothed right out and idled and ran perfect. All of the buttons, switches and sockets are easily accessible. i REALLY like the 12vDC socket on this unit. i plugged in my 12v. Portable Air Compressor into it and it worked great. I then tested it with my electric chain saw, blower and vacuum and they also ran perfectly. in an emergency i'm sure this generator will run my refrigerator as well. This unit is certainly much more quiet than my other generators too, especially when it's set to "Eco Mode" it's really quiet idling. another nice thing is the accessories that are supplied with it - The Cables, the Adapter, the Tool Kit and the funnel. I will do some more testing and if need be i will update this Review but for now, "I AM a Happy Camper" and glad i bought this unit. Also, Once Again, i really like doing business with etrailer. Their Customer Support is FANTASTIC......... (and NO, this is NOT a paid Advertisement, i mean it) Thank YOU

after 1 year im still learning on how to start it easier but that may never happen even though im still able to get it going without too much pulling on the cord. the bottom line is im still quite happy with this generator.

by:

I must say that i bought these generators a little worried because i had never heard of A-ipower generators (now i know that Home depot has them), but they turned out to be great, i live in Puerto Rico where hurricane María destroyed most of the electrical infrastructure and these little generators have performed flawlessly! I bought 2 and use them one at a time for a total of almost 20 hrs of power. Also, etrailer has been great with their customer service, would definitely recommend etrailer and A-ipower inverter generators!

C. T.

11/2/2018

Well thank you again for your fast service and willingness to ship to hurricane torn Puerto Rico when no one else would, or could. Regarding the product i must say Im still pleased with it and used it extensively without any problems whatsoever. BUT however, the product company, A-ipower? is impossible to reach. On one occasion the recoil start or manual start cord or whatever its called, binded up and wouldnt unwind to start the generator so I tried to contact them for advice or service and never got an answer back. No emails, no calls got through, nothing. Luckily I kept trying and i some how got it to work, and it has worked fine ever since. but I hope nothing major happens to it because if it does I doubt that A-ipower will honor the warranty. I believe it has a 2 year warranty? Keeping my fingers crossed. Sorry about the rant, i know its not your companys fault. You guys did your part and once again i thank you for it, but maybe you should look into A-ipower to see why they dont answer emails or phone calls?

The warranty listed for this item is indeed a 2 year warranty for residential use. And the first year is the 1st year parts and labor, and the second year is for parts only.

by:

Generator arrived fairly quickly, packing was great. Excellent instruction manual.
Added oil as per instructions, then gas(I use no ethanol gas), started right up. Checked sound level, 54db at 10 ft. It was quiet, but it IS a generator so you are aware it is there. After checking around on the internet, this is clearly the BEST price.(delivered). Its not a Honda, but at less than 1/2 the price it appears to be just as good. Happy camper !

Still going great !

by:

After a year of use on my SeaRay 290 sundancer I am extremely satisified with these inverters. I purchased 2. they came with the connector so I have 2 sets of cables for them. Both of these were several hundred $ less than 1 Honda. Honda might be a little quieter but with both running in ECO mode noise is not an issue for us in the cabin at night. And unless it is really hot and humid they will run 8-9 hours on a tank running my boats A/C, Outlets, frig, and charging boat battery. They start right up. outside is all plastic or rubber. even spark plug is covered with rubber cover. These is great with the salt water environment they are exposed too. I simply wash them with soapy water when I get home and spray exhaust with an anti-corrosive spray. Done! They still look like and perform like new. Probably 80-100 hours on them.

by:

Have had the generator for 1 year and have used it approx 8-10 times with last week being the last time.
Its powered circular saws, grinders and air compressors (for nail guns) when doing work in the back woods on my hunting cabin. It then powered the cabin so i had lights and fresh coffee from my coffee maker.
The last week I needed it to power a 6-volt tractor battery charger to charge an old farm tractors battery that sits way back in the woods. After 3 pulls the generator started right up in 25 degree weather and charged the battery for the next 4.5 hrs.

This generator has not let me down once and starts each and every time after 2-4 pulls.

Definitely recommend it.

by:

We purchased this for power outages. Have had 2 this year. It ran lights and a window a/c. Winter outage ran lights and Woodstove blower. I run the generator for an hour month for maintenance reasons. I have also run our refrigerator from this. Runs great!

Great Generator! We use it for power outages. I run it an hour every couple months for maintenance. No problems.

by:

I know it's not a Honda I was a little concerned but need one to for off grid use bought one locally at a discount hardware store and returned it after finding this one on etrailer this thing is as good as a Honda might be a little louder but for the huge price saving and the accessories it comes with it can't be beat thought about purchasing another for parallel use

by:

I have purchased one of these over a year ago and love it. It’s quiet and just runs. There is a small sputter once in a while but what small gas engine doesn’t do this. This thing runs everything in the camper but the AC. Side note, it will run the AC but it won’t start it. That is why I just bought this one to run in parallel. It will start the AC now and once it’s going I shut one off. You can buy a bigger unit but they are much bigger and heavier. These units are small and fit in the pass through storage in my camper. The price, this is the main reason I bought these, they work just as good as the other top two and have the same quality build. I’m not a brand shopper and always look for a fare price on my purchases. The name brands are great, but they are priced to high and I can buy two of these for just one of the others.

by:

The 289-SUA2000i is a well designed, powerful, and reasonably priced 1600 -
2000 watt inverter generator. This generator will be used an additional electrical source of power for a cabin in northern Wisconsin. This inverter generator received a four star rating because it did not come with the rv adapter as part of the components listing. I will contact their customer service department and let them know.

by:

runs well, is quiet and easy to start. I bought two of these and with the parallel cord they will not start my 13500 btu roof top A/C on my rv and if they do get it going they cut out after 5 minutes. I did not put a meter on the pair to see what the output watts were but I am sure it is less than 3200 constant.

by:

This is a good little generator. We had it for one camping season and use it to keep the battery charged on our trailer and to run/charge small devices when we are dry camping. This does everything we need except run the AC which we knew when we chose to go with this size. Machanically it starts up easy every time and runs good. It isn’t bad on gas and runs quiet. We are happy with our purchase.

by:

Excellent generator. I own a Honda 2200 as well. Ran them side by side and it sounded about the same noise level. My DB meter said the Honda was 2 DBs quieter, but I could not tell the difference with my ears alone. My Ai power fired up my 12000 btu AC no problem but could not start the 15000 btu unit. The Honda can barely start the 15000 unit, but it strains. The Honda is also a little larger unit rated at 2200watts max versus 2000. So this is a great unit and as long as you don’t need the extra capacity to start a large AC. I am also very impressed with the build quality of this unit.
Also Etrailer did a great job. The unit arrrived promptly and undamaged.

by:

First of all many will say for the money this this the very best 1600/2000 watt inverter generator on the market today. I have several generators of different sizes and have indirectly sold several of these. This brand is sold nationally by large companies, not for any less money then can be bought at e, trailer.... Not one negative feedback can be found anywhere . it's spools up smooth and runs as quietly as any I heard . It appears to be well made and has all of the features you would want in this size generator. I run it in Econ. mode and with large tools there is never a hesitation. the one I received this week will be paired up for Parallel use in my camper, I will let you know how that works out. I do expect the same good results

by:

Have not had time to really use this a lot, but so far so good. I bought a pair of these. When they arrived, added oil, fuel and 2 pulls and they started right up. Hooked the 2 together, and they powered the AC in the RV just fine. Only issue I had was they were missing the RV to generator adapter. Called eTrailer and they got them shipped out right away.

by:

The shipping was swift and I was able to test the generator with a 1000 W microwave and then a small 1500 W radiant heater. Everything worked as it should.

I got a chance to use it a couple of days ago for the first time after testing a month ago. NO OUTPUT!!
The AC voltage is only 83V. Disappointed. I e-mailed A-ipower this morning to see who does warranty repairs in my area. Hopefully they won't take their time. It appears to be well made but again, disappointed. More stars later if it gets fixed fast!

by:

This generator started on the second pull and runs quiet.
It has a 30amp connection which works well for me as I plug my boat power cord directly into the generator. Havent tried to put a lot of load to it so not sure what it will handle.
Not sure how it compares to the Honda but it costs half as much. I am very happy with it so far.

by:

Great little generator. We mainly bought this because my wife uses a CPAP and we wanted her to be able to use it when we are boondocking. It did work great for that. However, when we tried to use our Keurig coffee maker in the morning it would pop the breaker. The only way to make coffee was to disconnect the unit from the trailer and plug the coffee maker directly into it.

by:

I bought this generator to run my camper. It is easy to start and very quiet, especially on eco mode. It has plenty of power to run a camper. It is basically the same as the [competing brand], just half the price. I did originally get one that had a manufacturing defect that caused it to leak gas, but I conta Ted etrailer and they sent me another one the next day. I have bought a lot of stuff for my truck and camper from etrailer and they are very easy to work with. They have great customer service.

The generator works very well, quiet and easy to manage. Very economic in gasoline and good price. I used recently due to hurricane Maria and turn on a refrigerator, 3 fans, a 40" LCD TV and 2 cell phone chargers and works for 9 hours. I recommended this generator. Thanks etrailer for the fast shipping.

Even when things do not go as planned or as should. Does not mean much if the company is not going to stand up and throw some back bone into what their doing. And I can say etrailer.com backs up their products. And are very fast to make corrections. I will buy from etrailer.com first if the need arises again. Buy the way generator is great and runs as expected to.

  • Recommended Generator for Supplying Power to Refrigerator and Other Household Items
In order to determine what size generator you will need, it's best to locate the electrical demands of the equipment that you want to operate. You will want to look for both the starting output (the power it takes to start an appliance like your refrigerator) and the running output (the power it takes to keep it running) in watts. This information should be listed on the appliance itself. Once you have this information, you will want to determine the total running wattage for the devices...

  • Is A-iPower 2,000-Watt Inverter Generator Compatible With Firman to Run in Parallel
The A-iPower 2,000-Watt Portable Inverter Generator - 1,600 Running Watts - Gas - Manual Start # 289-SUA2000i is not compatible with the Firman inverter generator to run in parallel. Generators are not cross-compatible in that way, so if you have a need for more wattage, what you would need to do is go with two of the A-iPower run in parallel, which you can get with the A-iPower 3,800-Watt Portable Inverter Generators - 3,000 Running Watts - Gas - Manual Start # 289-SUA2000i-2.

  • How To Get Clean 12V Power for Sensitive Electronics
The 4,500-Watt Portable Generator, # 333-0004 is a conventional generator that supplies power for the job site or emergency situations. This does not have a built in inverter to control current and therefore susceptible to fluctuations and can cause damage to sensitive electronics such as cell phones when plugged in directly to the generator. If your battery charger is a newer digital "smart charger" design I would not recommend plugging in directly. However, if you have an older type...

  • Can Different Brands of Generators Be Mixed Matched Together to be Used In Parallel
No, generators like the A-iPower 2,000-Watt Portable Inverter Generator # 289-SUA2000i are only going to work when hooked up together if they are the same brand. Since your current inverter generator is no longer made, your best option is to upgrade your setup with something like the A-iPower 3,800-Watt Portable Inverter Generators # 289-SUA2000i-2. This setup includes 2 30 amp adapters, 2 DC charging cables, 2 spark plug wrenches, 2 oil funnels and will produce up to 3,800 watts of power...

  • Can A-iPower Generator be Parallel Connected
Per the manufacturer, all of the inverter generators that are already parallel compatible (such as the SC and SUA lines like the # 289-SUA2000I you were looking at) are compatible for use in parallel with other units. Since both the SC2300 and SC2000 are parallel capable, you can use these two units together in parallel. We have the part # 289-SUA2000i-2 which is two of the generators and comes with a parallel kit. You do not have to start either in any particular order.

  • What are the Differences Between A-iPower Generators
There is little difference between the pair of generators you referenced. The biggest is that # 289-SUA2000I uses a Senci 79-cc engine while 289-AP2000I uses a Yamaha MZ80 79-cc engine and is an inch longer and wider. Apart from that you will not be able to find a difference so I would not classify one as better than the other. I have attached links to video reviews of both generators for you to take a look at.

  • Type Fuel For e3200R Portable Inverter Generator
I would follow the manufacturers recommendations of ethanol free 87 octane fuel, nothing lower unless operating above 5,000 feet, stay away from E85 altogether. The A-iPower 2,000-Watt Portable Inverter Generator - 1,600 Running Watts - Gas - Manual Start # 289-SUA2000I prefers to use standard gasoline with ethanol. • How To Deal With Old Gas Issues With An A-iPower Generator
Gasoline is only good for about 3 to 6 months without a stabilizer so you could very well have issues with the gas in your generator # 289-SUA2000i. To remove the old gas you'll have to remove quite a bit of paneling to gain access to the tank. once you have access to the tank and can remove it you can dump the old gas and refill with fresh gas and use a gas stabilizer from your local hardware store to prevent issues like this in the future.

  • Generator Will Not Stay Running
If you have the A-iPower 2,000-Watt Portable Inverter Generator, # 289-SUA2000i or something similar. My first thoughts on your issue are either old fuel or incorrect oil level, usually too low. I have seen this issue happen several times and most always the solution was one of the two. First step, check oil level. Sometimes the sensor will shut the generator down from low oil, others time it will be due to temperature increasing too rapidly, a direct result of low oil level. If...
