Installation
This custom-fit T-One connector plugs into your vehicle's wiring harness, which is located in your rear cargo area on both the driver's side and the passenger's side. Once you've plugged in the T-connector, run the hot lead up to your car battery. Connect the lead to the included fuse holder, and then connect the fuse holder to the positive terminal on your battery and insert the provided fuse.
Once installation is complete, the 4-way flat connector will be stowed in your rear cargo area.
It is recommended that you use a small amount of grease on all electrical connections - the plugs on your automobile and the 4-pole connector itself - to help prevent corrosion.
ModuLite Powered Tail Light Converter
A ModuLite power module is built into this T-One connector. Because most trailers run on a two-wire system - wherein the brake and turn signals are carried on one wire - the separate brake and turn signals from your vehicle's three-wire system need to be combined so they are compatible with the wiring system of your trailer. This power module functions as a tail light converter to combine the brake and turn signal functions of your automobile so that they run on one wire to properly activate your trailer's tail lights. Note: This will not affect how the tail lights on your vehicle operate.
With a ModuLite, your trailer's lights will be powered without overloading your vehicle's electrical system. Because the module draws power directly from your car's battery and bypasses the electrical routes that are used by a basic wiring harness, there is virtually no draw on your tail light circuits.

I think this is a nice option for cars that don’t have factory trailer connection hidden in the trunk. This is no insult to the product but I’m very surprised that many of the DIY videos and I even the instructions suggest running the power wire outside of the car. It’s pretty easy to pop the door threshold and tuck the wire under the carpet inside. If you purchase an add a circuit harness you can usually run it right to your fuse box nice and neat. Either way the product is great, definitely better than cutting into factory harness.

2016 Subaru Legacy
It's been a year since I purchased a custom fit wiring harness and tow hitch for my new 2016 Subaru Legacy. I found the installation of both easy and encountered no issues at all. I did choose to simply keep the wiring harness stored inside the trunk and simply let the trunk seal around the flat wire ribbon when in use so that I did not need to compromise the water tight chassis of my new car.
Both the hitch and harness have worked perfectly and have faced ample use.
These are not the first of each as I've purchased. I also bought a roof rack and hitch mounted bike rack from etrailer.
I have been thrilled with each purchase and will most definitely return to etrailer as I already have multiple times. Good quality, great prices and fantastic customer service with rapid response to product questions.

Works perfect, but don't let your installer take any shortcuts! Mine tapped into a hot wire in the back rather than run a wire all the way to the battery (unbeknownst to me) and that had me troubleshooting my trailer lights for hours! All was fine with the trailer once the correct car wiring was completed as directed. I am very impressed with the web site, products, and installation support of etrailer. These folks do a great job, even as far as waiting a year for a review solicitation.

2016 Subaru Legacy
Running the hot wire to the battery is a pain in the rear, other than that it works well. I ran it out through holes in frame rails on trunk floor and side on passenger side to stay away from muffler. Only hole I drilled was for ground.

2017 Subaru Legacy
This is my 4th purchase through etrailer with all four being flawless. Fast shipping, good products at reasonable prices.
