Installation

This custom-fit T-connector plugs into your vehicle's wiring harness, which is located in your rear cargo area on the driver's side and passenger's side. You will have to remove some interior paneling and carpeting to access this harness. Once you've plugged in the connector, run the red hot lead up to your car battery. Connect the included fuse holder, and then connect the fuse holder to the positive terminal on your battery.

Once installation is complete, the 4-way connector will be stowed within your rear cargo area.

It is recommended that you use a small amount of grease on all electrical connections - the plugs on your automobile and the 4-pole connector itself - to help prevent corrosion.

Powered Tail Light Converter

A tail light converter is built into this T-connector. This converter is a battery-powered unit that bypasses the electrical routes that are used by a basic wiring harness. As a result, there is virtually no draw on your tail light circuits.

Because most trailers run on a two-wire system - wherein the brake and turn signals are carried on one wire - the separate brake and turn signals from your vehicle's three-wire system need to be combined so they are compatible with the wiring system of the trailer. This converter combines the brake and turn signal functions of your automobile so that they run on one wire to properly activate your trailer's tail lights. Note: This will not affect how the tail lights on your vehicle operate.

Video Transcript for Review of Hopkins Custom Fit Vehicle Wiring - Trailer Hitch Wiring - HM42264

Hello everybody, this is Jeff at etrailer.com. Today we're gonna take a look at the Hopkins plug-in vehicle wiring harness, with the four-Way flat trailer connector. Now this is a custom fit part, it is designed to fit the 2011 to 2014 Chrysler 300 vehicles. And on a custom fit part like this, I do like to recommend for you to go to our website, use the fit guide, put in your year and model vehicle, and it'll show if this will work for your application. Now this will provide the four-way flat trailer connector right here, at the back of your vehicle. And that's to power your trailer signal lights.

It is compatible with five-poles, six-pole, and seven-pole adapters, that we do sell separately on our website. And this kit does connect very quickly and easily. All you have to do is locate the connection points behind the tail lights, plug in these T connectors here, one on each side, ground your white wire, and then run your power wire to the front to the battery. Now if you notice, it does include the black box, this is a circuit-protected taillight converter. And this is to ensure that your vehicle's wiring will match that of your trailer.

This will provide protection against electrical shorts and overloads, and as it's a powered module, 'cause it connects directly to the battery, to avoid overloading your vehicle's electrical system. Does come with all the parts laid out here on the table, I'm gonna go through all the parts here. It does even come with this nice dust cap for the four-way. So when you're not plugged into your trailer, you can just leave this attached if you want, to the four-way plug, slide it on just like that, and you can leave it on there. And then, when you're not plugged into the trailer, just go like that, put it over the terminals, and it'll protect that from any damage or from the elements.

So basically the way you'll hook this up, now it does come with a nice set of instructions. But basically what you'll do is go to the rear of the vehicle as we mentioned, go behind the tail lights, and you'll see connectors that'll match up to these. So what you'll do is start on the driver's side and take the T connector here, that has the yellow wire in it. And then you'll unplug behind the taillights and then plug this into there. And then you'll take the other connector, it has the green wire, that's for the passenger side.

You'll run this length of wire over there. Same way, unplug it, plug this in. Once those are all connected, you have a white wire here that needs to connect to a ground, a good clean ground. There's one nearby, you can do that, if you need to make one, they do give you a grounding screw. And then the last thing, you have this power wire that needs to run up to your vehicle's battery, and they give you all the extras for that. So what you'll do is take one end of the length of wire, connect it to the butt connector, run this all the way to the front, take your other end. Let me get that other end of wire right here. And its other end, you don't go directly to the battery, you'll go through this inline fuse holder. So you'll connect this end to the butt connector here. And then you'll see on the other end it has this eyelet that you'll connect to the battery. Once that's all connected, just pop open your fuse holder, take the included 15 amp fuse, push it into there, put your cap back on, and now your system's all ready to go. If you notice, they give you some extra cable ties to take up any slack in the wiring. Gives you some terminal grease to put on all your electrical connections. But that should do it for the review on this Hopkins plugin vehicle wiring harness with the four-Way flat trailer connector.
