Once installation is complete, the 4-way flat connector will be stowed beneath your vehicle, near the trailer hitch. A mounting bracket (sold separately) is recommended to keep the connector secure.

It is recommended that you use a small amount of grease on all electrical connections - the plugs on your automobile and the 4-pole connector itself - to help prevent corrosion.

Video Transcript for Hopkins Custom Fit Vehicle Wiring - Trailer Hitch Wiring - 40105 Review

Today we're going to be taking a look at part number 40105. This is the Hopkins Plug In Simple Vehicle Wiring Harness with a 4 pole trailer connector. This is a plug in simple wiring that is going to provide a no hassle quick and easy way to wire your vehicle. The product is designed to fit the Ford F100, F150, F250, and F350 models from 1973 to 1979. It's going to feature the pre-wired design that's going to use the original OEM connectors on your vehicle for a nice water-tight connection. It's going to offer water-tight protection. It's going to offer a guaranteed fit, and it's also going to look great at the back of the vehicle. With this system, you don't have to worry about cutting or splicing or taping any wires for the installation.

You're going to have the four pole connector here on this end. That's also going to include the dust cap so that when your connector is not being used you can simply place the dust cap over the connection points, and it's going to protect them from the elements, keeping out any dirt, grime, or moisture. Then on this end, you're going to have another connector, as well as your white wire. This is going to be your ground connection. When it comes to the installation, you're going to need to locate the tail light wiring harness, disconnect the vehicle tail light wiring harness, and then plug each end into this connector right here. Once you have that done, this connector simply plugs into this connector right here, and then you need to make your ground connection.

White wire, you can use the included self-tap in screw. Once you have that connected, really the installation is complete because now you're able to connect this to your trailer and to send back the signals from the vehicle to power the signals on the trailer. They do include a couple zip ties that way you can secure any excess wires up and out of the way, and they're going to supply a terminal grease packet. It's always a good idea to apply a small amount of grease to your electrical connections. That's going to help prevent any type of corrosion from being able to settle into those connection points. The other neat thing that I want to mention is that it comes with nice detailed instructions in the packaging that's going to walk you through the entire installation process step-by-step. That's going to do it for today's review of part number 40105. .

  • Why is There Only One Ground Wire on the Adapter 4-Pole to 7-Pole and 4-Pole Part # 37185
The Adapter 4-Pole to 7-Pole and 4-Pole part # 37185 has both 4 and 7-way trailer connectors. There is only one ground wire for both connectors as that is all that is needed. The ground wire for the 7-way and 4-way trailer connectors are combined into one wire which eliminates the need to ground two separate wires with the same function. If you will be towing a trailer with brakes you will need the wires that connect the 7-way connector to a brake controller and for that you will want to...

  • Troubleshooting Lighting Problems on a 1974 Ford Truck
I recommend checking the grounding wire on the Hopkins Plug-In Simple Vehicle Wiring Harness item # 40105 it'll need to be securely attached to a bare clean piece of metal. Also check the grounds on the individual lights. Both of these problems you mentioned can be the result of a bad ground. When you operate both blinkers and brake lights and the blinkers stop blinking, it’s because the circuit is not good enough to operate both lights.

  • Will Curt Class IV Trailer Hitch Receiver Fit 1974 Ford F-250 with Standard Bumper and 34 Inch Frame
The Curt # C14082 will fit on your 1974 Ford F-250 as long as you have the crew cab. It does bolt on but will require drilling into the frame to install. I've attached a link that shows all of the Class IV hitch receivers confirmed to fit the different models of your F-250. If you also need a wiring harness use the Hopkins # 40105 for a 4-way connector or the Draw-Tite # 20023 for a 7-way. You might like an adjustable ball mount.
