Hi there GMC owners. Today, on your 2012 GMC Sierra 2500, we're gonna be taking a look and showing you how to install Curt's in-bed seven-way wiring kit. And this is what our connector looks like when it's installed. You do have the option to put it wherever you want here in the back of your truck as long as you've got the room to install it there. Typically, this location here at the back by the tailgate, there's usually plenty of room here. And this is usually a great spot that gives you plenty of length to be able to hook up your trailer to cause your trailer's gonna be coming on from the back there.
The main purpose of this is to be able to hook up a gooseneck or 5th wheel trailer. Because oftentimes, the cable on your gooseneck or 5th wheel trailer isn't gonna be long enough to extend over the back of your truck and plug into the connector located down by the bumper. This one here does not remove the one that's located down at the bumper. That one's still there, still fully functional. This just plugs in-line and gives you a second connector here that repeats all the same functions as that one but here in the bed, making it easy to plug in those gooseneck and 5th wheel trailers.
And with this, you are gonna get a high quality seven-way connector. It has a spring loaded lid that keeps it snap shut when not in use. On the inside of our lid, there's a rubber gasket inside of there to keep out debris and moisture. So, that spring load with that, that really keeps it sealed up nice and tight, keeping out moisture and stuff that can cause corrosion and damage to our pins inside. And it also has a small little lock tab on it there, so when you put in your seven-way to plug it in, that holds it in place.
As far as the installation goes for this component, it's extremely easy. You'll just need a, about a 2 1/8 inch hole saw to cut out the hole to be able to insert this in your bed. And then from there, really you're just riding the wire to your factory connector and plugging it in. Something like this, I would say probably takes about a half an hour to install. So, it is something really easy.
It's something that if you we're borrowing a truck from somebody or you just got a brand new truck and you're needing it like that weekend to go camping, you could easily order this and have it done in an afternoon after work. We'll begin our installation by determining where we're gonna place our connector. So, here's our connector here. We wanna have it in an accessible location here in our bed but we also need to have an area that's deep enough to accept this connector. So, this location here is gonna be our best bet. It's got the biggest distance between the interior wall here and the exterior wall on the other side. So, since we've determined our location is gonna be on here, we're probably gonna put it right at about the middle, not too high, not too low. Maybe in about that spot right there. So, now that we know where we're gonna be placing it, we'll grab our hole saw and we'll cut it out. We're gonna use a 2 1/8 inch hole saw to do so. Now that we've got it all cut out, you might have some rough edges in there. We'll take a file and we'll clean those up. And those knock off of there real fast with the file. We'll now take a vacuum and clean up all the metal shavings we've got here. And then we'll use a bit of clear coat to seal this area up to prevent any rust or corrosion. Now, we have our harness here. This needs to go up from the bottom to connect to our wiring, so we're gonna push this up through the bottom and then come out the hole. So now, we're gonna take the end with the single connector. We're gonna go up. We're gonna push it over the frame first. There we go. And now, we're just gonna feed this up the opening here to where our hole is and then push this out through the hole. And now, we'll take our connector here and just simply plug it in. We can then push this into place. And then we're just gonna have to hold it upright. And then we'll thread it in using the self-tapping screws that come included with our kit. So, we'll take our quarter inch socket now and our self-tapping screws. We're gonna hold it roughly level. We don't have to get it perfect on this first screw because we'll still be able to pivot it kinda on this screw to further straighten it out but wanna be pretty close. You know, if we're too far off, it's not, we'll never be able to line it up. So, that's fairly level right there. Just gonna take our screw and our gun here. Get it fairly level and run again. And you can see here, we can now pivot it as necessary to get it nice and even with the body lines on our, our truck here. We'll now need to disconnect our factory electrical connector for our wiring and that's located here. The release tab's located on the opposite side here and there is a little lock tab on it there. So, we have to pull back on the lock tab. There we go, just pull that out of there. And then we can press in on the release lever and get this disconnected. And here you can see that's the release button. The lock prevents it from being able to be depressed. Now, we'll take our new connector here. We're gonna put a generous amount of dielectric grease in the connector, and that'll help ensure that we don't have any issues with corrosion and stuff like that down the line. I'm also gonna take the factory side that we had disconnected since that's with the female sides, and we're gonna fill this one up with dielectric grease as well. So now, we simply have to do is just plug our connections together. So, we're gonna take our new connector here. We're gonna plug it right in to our factory connection here at the back of the vehicle. Just line that up. Make sure it does click all the way in. Kind of give it a tug, make sure you can't just pull it off. Then we'll take the factory connector, we're gonna plug this in to the other connector here on our new harness. And also, check those, make sure it is clipped in all the way. And then you can also reinsert that lock tab that was in there as well. With our excess that we've got down here, I like to just take this and coil it up like this, and then we'll zip tie it to the factory harness located right there. So now, I'm just gonna hook up our tester and make sure that everything's working properly. Make sure you have your left turn signal, right turn signal, tail lamps, and brake lamps. If you have a brake controller installed, you'll wanna also check the operation of that. And we can see here that our brake controller is working properly. And if you had an auxiliary charge line hooked up, you wanna make sure that works. Our customer does not have an auxiliary charge line on this vehicle. And that completes our installation of Curt's in-bed seven-way connector wiring kit on our 2012 GMC Sierra 2500..

Mount this 7-way, RV-style connector in your truck bed for quick, simple hookup of your 5th-wheel or gooseneck trailer. Custom harness plugs in-line with your existing factory wiring so that you can retain use of your vehicle's factory 7-pole.Connecting to the existing wire harness was straightforward and easy on the other-hand finding a place on the side wall wasn’t easy. I put the plug together and measured and could not find a place with enough space between the inner and outer sheet metal. Maybe there was but I didn’t want to chance it, did not want a hole I couldn’t use. i ended up putting it in the post behind the tail light. I used the round area in the tail light area as a guide (see pic). To get the wire up through from beneath the light I cut a small piece of metal to allow the wire access (see pic). I am very happy with the location where the plug will not be damaged.
I used this cable to replicate 7-pole to the bed of a Ram 2500.
I also have a 4-pole at the bumper and wanted to have all three locations 'hot'.
This cable does not "move" the functionality.
It REPLICATES it, while keeping the 4-pole functional.
7-pole at bumper or 7-pole in bed.
4 pole at bumper.
I used the 120v factory hole because this truck does not have an inverter, nor will I be adding one. The 5th wheel camper has that.
I did have to fabricate an 'adapter' to cover the factory mounting holes, but that was easy and is now a rubberized, waterproof mounting.
All good.
Thanks Paul!
This harness seemed to be of great quality however after installing and attempting to use for the first time I discovered that it disrupted the signal to my 7 way at the bumper.
Just what I needed. The harness that came with the truck developed a short I couldn’t track down to repair. I got the lovely ding and check trailer brake wiring every time i hit the brakes. That got annoying really quick. Replaced it with this one and it solved my issue. Seems like it’s quality built and will withstand a few Colorado winters. It’s only downside is it comes with like 6 small zip ties to install it. If you’re the least bit OCD and want a clean look grab a dozen large ones from an auto part store.
I bought the wiring harness to transfer my trailer electricity from back bumper to inside bed of my Sierra 1500. Everything went smooth and I loved drilling a two inch hole in the bed of my truck. Done in less than one hour.
etrailer was familiar with this product and they were very friendly and easy to deal with.
Plug and play!! The hardest part was to decide exactly where I wanted to mount it in the box.
The trailer wiring harness worked great. No problem with installation.
2022 ram 3500 long bed. Was perfect length if you install it on the rear driver side of bed. In the video i saw of someone installing it they cut the hole then shoved the double connector end of the harness down from the bed. I found it easier to fish a string down the hole and then tie the string to the clip part of the single side of the harness and pull it up. That plug has to go through the hole straight or else it gets caught up and having the string tied to the clip helps pull it up and through the hole straight.
Was a 30 minute install on my Ram 2500. It took longer to raise/lower the spare than anything else. Do yourself a favor and get the shorter one. You don’t need 7’, and I have at least 2’ coiled up.
excellent service, have bought from E-trailer several times, always good quality products and service
This order was for ITEM # C53CR which has the filler plate. The order somehow was changed or substituted for this part which works for the application but without the filler plate.
etrailer sent the filler plate separately and I performed the install which was fairly simple and with the plate installed looks completely like factory. I attached my camper to the bumper connector and all worked, I could not reach the bed connector due to cable length, this was set up for a new 5th Wheel we are purchasing. I am confident that is will work.
I used different wire ties, something a little more substantial than what was provided but that is my choice. Watch the install video, it is fairly straight forward, 30 minutes from start to finish for my install.
4 stars due to the confusion in the order but was eventually straightened away.
The purchase was great and the product and installation were very good!
Super easy to install. Lighting fast de livery.
Great kit to add a trailer connector in the bed of your truck. Super easy to install, took 30 minutes start to finish.

Still works great to hook up my fifth wheel connector in the bed of the truck instead of having it hang over the tailgate.
Excellent product, which was super easy to install using the videos from the e trailer website
2018 Ram 2500 w/6.5' bed
Quality seems good. Install easy. Works fine if you plan on putting the plug in the back of the bed. Will not reach to the front wheel wells though! Putting in an extension as this is for a slide-in camper.
Super fast install. Great product. I have a 21 Ram crew short bed and the 7’ is the way to go. 35 min install. Tested and works great. Instructions call for a 2-1/8 hole. I was able to use the 2” hole saw and remove and reinstall the grey plastic wire cover from the Y.
Install was very easy, wish it would come with some of that gel you’re suppose to put inside of it. Just needs a little and no need to buy a whole big tube of it. Haven’t used it yet but was everything I needed for my Fords new gooseneck. Didn’t want to plug it in at bottom of bottom of bumper

Has worked great
very easy to intall.the box it came in i was wondering if it was going to work the box was torn open
Installation was very easy and straightforward. It took about 10 minutes; once the spare tire was out. The hardest part was taking out and putting back in, the spare tire. If you have a 5th gen Ram that didn’t come with a gooseneck plug, there should be a plastic cover where it would be. Pop that out and your hole for the wiring is already there. There will be four small squares in the corner. The plug that is mounted to the firewall has enough clearance, so you can mount it to the bed using the provided self-tapping screws.
I purchased this unit after reading the reviews. I received both the C56070 and a B&W OEM hitch within a few days of placing my order. Etrailers’s customer service is excellent! The installation of this wiring harness took about twenty minutes including cutting the hole for mounting. Everything but the hole saw was included in the package! I am very pleased with my purchase!
Be sure to watch their installation videos prior to purchasing, they give real insight into the process!
The plug in is located in the bottom left corner of the photo!
Thank you. Will be ordering from you ag ain.
Great product! a 10 for sure.
The 7 foot cord was more than adequate. Good quality product. I installed on 2019 Ram 2500 Big Horn.
I will tell you dont even try the install without lowering the spare tire. Even if you are able to fish the wire over (like I did) you will not be able to make the connection to the existing 7 pinn on the bumper. the plug adapter is wired in such a way that you cannot get your hand and the wire in the right orientation. The install of the unit will be less than an hour and probably closer to 30 min.
One last tip, when reinstalling the spare be careful not to push the tire to far to the front there is a thin metal shroud that the tire will rub on and squeak over every little bump. test it before you are done, ask me how I know. LOL
Product was delivered sooner than scheduled. Excellent customer service! My second time using etrailer with outstanding products, service, and results.
This harness is excellent. It plugged right in and looks like it should last a while. It also included plenty of zip ties and the necessary mounting screws. The hardest part was mustering up the nerves to drill a 2-1/8” hole in the bed of your truck. After drilling the hole, I put touch up paint on the bare metal to prevent rust. I also put silicone sealant in the screw holes, after they were tapped, to seal the metal there too. Install was quick and easy with the right tools; just the hole saw and a drill driver with the appropriate socket for the mounting screws.
