2004 Ford Explorer - Hopkins Plug-In Simple Vehicle Wiring Harness with 4-Pole Flat Trailer Connector

  • Custom Fit
  • 4 Flat
  • Trailer Hitch Wiring
  • Hopkins
  • Converter

Quickly and easily install a 4-way trailer connector on your Ford Explorer with this custom harness. T-connector plugs directly into existing wiring - no cutting or splicing required.

Features:

  • Provides a 4-way flat trailer connector at the back of your vehicle to power your trailer's signal lights
    • Compatible with 5-pole, 6-pole and 7-pole adapters (sold separately)
  • Connects quickly and easily - no cutting or splicing
    • Locate connection point in rear cargo area
    • Plug in connector
  • Includes a tail light converter to ensure that your vehicle's wiring matches that of your trailer
  • Protective connection terminals resist corrosion
  • Comes with dust cap for 4-way flat connector, cable ties, and terminal grease packet for electrical connections
  • 90-Day limited warranty

Installation

This custom-fit T-connector plugs into your vehicle's wiring harness, which is located in your rear cargo area, either behind the driver's-side trim panel or in the spare tire compartment.

Once installation is complete, the 4-way connector will be stowed beneath your vehicle, near the trailer hitch. A mounting bracket (sold separately) is recommended to keep the connector secure.

It is recommended that you use a small amount of grease on all electrical connections - the plugs on your automobile and the 4-pole connector itself - to help prevent corrosion.

Tail Light Converter

A tail light converter is built into this T-connector. Because most trailers run on a two-wire system - wherein the brake and turn signals are carried on one wire - the separate brake and turn signals from your vehicle's three-wire system need to be combined so they are compatible with the wiring system of the trailer. This converter combines the brake and turn signal functions of your automobile so that they run on one wire to properly activate your trailer's tail lights. Note: This will not affect how the tail lights on your vehicle operate.

It fit in the connector and I tried my trailer lights and they work as they should. Thanx for finding the right part to replace the 20 year old plug that was all corroded and was working.

  • Installing a 4 and 7 Way Trailer Connector on a 2005 Ford Explorer with Factory 4-Way Wiring Harness
Since the lights are not working with the factory 4-Way on your 2005 Ford Explorer, you will first need to check on that issue before adding a 7-Way trailer connector. The addition of a 7-Way uses the wiring of a 4-Way flat so if it is currently not working, it would still not work with the 7-Way added. there may be some fuses or relays related to the factory tow package that need to be added or replaced to make the lights work. Check the owners manual for the location of any fuses and...

  • Is Spare Tire Accessible After Installation of Draw Tite Hitch 75132 on 2002 Ford Explorer 4-Door
The full-size spare tire on your 2002 Ford Explorer 4-Door 4WD will remain accessible after you install Draw-Tite Class III hitch # 75132. I confirmed this with my technical contact at Draw-Tite. I have linked for you the written install instructions as well as a helpful article with tips for an easier hitch installation. If you need a 4-pole wiring harness you can use Tow Ready # 118344 or if you have the tow package use part # HM11140335. For a ball mount use part # D-4, Hitch Pin and...

  • Installing Tekonsha Voyager Brake Controller # 39510 in 2004 Ford Explorer with No Tow Package
Since your 2004 Explorer was not equipped with a factory 7-way, the brake controller will need to be hardwired. To wire your controller, you will need: 25 feet of # 10-2-1 duplex cable Either a 20- or 30-amp inline breaker (# 9506-P for 2-4 brake assemblies or 38630 for 6 brake assemblies) 40-amp breaker, # 9510 for 12-volt accessory circuit (if needed). Circuit Tester, # PTW2993 The controller would attach to the underside of the dash and should be mounted in accordance with the guidelines...

  • Parts Needed to Tow a Trailer with Brakes Using a 2002 Mercury Mountaineer with Factory 4-Way
The only 7-way trailer harnesses that plug directly into your 2002 Mercury Mountaineer are direct replacements if you have a factory 7-way. Since you have the 4-way you won't be able to use a replacement 7-way but part of the work is already finished. What you'll use is the 4-way to 7-way harness, part # 37185. This connects to your existing 4-way and has the additional wire leads for brake, power, and accessory. If you need additional wiring you can use 10 guage wire # 10-1-1 which...

  • What Is Needed to Install a 7-way On a 2002 Ford Explorer
There is a way for you to have a 7-way on the rear of your 2002 Ford Explorer, but there is not a 7-way harness that will just plug into the factory port. You will still need to install a Plug-N-Tow Vehicle Wiring Harness # HM11140335, and from there if your trailer does not have brakes you will need a 4-Pole to 7-Pole Adapter # 37185. If your trailer does have brakes then you will want to install a Brake Controller Installation Kit # ETBC7 as it will provide everything you will need...
