Installation

This custom-fit T-connector plugs into your vehicle's wiring harness, which is located behind the driver's-side and passenger's-side rear access panels. You will have to remove the trunk floor coverings, cargo tie downs, foam and plastic storage trays, and rear scuff panel to access these connection points. Once you've plugged in the T-connector, run the hot lead up to your car battery. Connect the lead to the included fuse holder, and then connect the fuse holder to the positive terminal on your battery.

Once installation is complete, the 4-way connector will be stowed in an out-of-the-way location within your trunk.

It is recommended that you use a small amount of grease on all electrical connections - the plugs on your automobile and the 4-pole connector itself - to help prevent corrosion.

Powered Tail Light Converter with Surface-Mount Technology

A tail light converter is built into this T-connector. This converter is a circuit-protected, battery-powered unit that bypasses the electrical routes that are used by a basic wiring harness. As a result, there is virtually no draw on your tail light circuits.

Because most trailers run on a two-wire system - wherein the brake and turn signals are carried on one wire - the separate brake and turn signals from your vehicle's three-wire system need to be combined so they are compatible with the wiring system of the trailer. This converter combines the brake and turn signal functions of your automobile so that they run on one wire to properly activate your trailer's tail lights. Note: This will not affect how the tail lights on your vehicle operate.

Curt builds each tail light converter using surface-mount technology (SMT). This method of construction involves soldering electronic components directly to the surface of a printed circuit board. SMT eliminates the need for leads, which are used in older through-hole technology. The result is a circuit board that is smaller yet provides more routing area and that offers superior performance, reliability and durability.

Curt SMT Circuit Boards

Circuit boards constructed using SMT have been shown to perform better under rough conditions with excessive vibration than those made using the through-hole method. And where would vibration be more likely to occur than in towing applications? Curt converters also produce less heat, leading to increased durability and longer life. In addition, lower levels of resistance ensure better performance, especially for parts that operate at higher frequencies.

Each Curt circuit board is made using high-quality components that are pieced together in the most technologically savvy fashion, leading to greater predictability and reliability in functioning.

Im just an old bodyman 76Now but I have used the Curt Trailer Hitches and wiring set ups on several of Mine and Customer rigs. They Fit perfectly and bolt right up and the wiring is so easy to install without butchering the original wiring of the car or truck I am working on. They are a really nice set-up! I Wish those you have never tried other trailer hitches and Wiring set ups could Know what a difference it makes in Time, Stress, and Ease to use the Curt Trailer Hitches and wiring set ups. Thanks for letting me comment on your products! Warren, Just an old bodyman with 56 years of beating on cars in Montana.

It was very easy to install.
My Captiva
has the nuts in place already so I just dropped the muffler for access and it went right in and bolted down very easy.

This product was easy to install and has satisfactory results since installation. I've used this connector for my boat and utility trailers. It does lay flat when hanging out through the tailgate and have had no problems with any type of connection. I would recommend this product for any body having a 2014 Chevy Activa

My Nephew installed the light kit on my Captiva with no problems, and everything works great! I especially like that the wires do not hang loose all the time, but that they are inside the SUV when not in use and not exposed to the elements. Looks a lot neater when I'm not using the trailer. And the price was very reasonable, too. Thanks so much.

Very happy with the harness, it is working perfectly!

I ordered a trailer hitch and wiring harness. Both were good quality. the price was right. Also, delivered in a short time after placing order. I put the Hitch and wiring harness on my car as soon as it arrived, and I'm happy with product and would order from again.

I also purchased the wiring harness which made all the difference. Having someone else pre-wire everything like that and provide a simple T connection was a huge win.

However, I would not recomend running a constant hot wire under the chassis. Besides not having a lift for easy access, there are too many potentials for incident if something happens to that wire over time. Especially if all you do is zip tie it to something. I suggest, as I did, that you run it through the body trim panels on the driver side. The vehicle has a wiring harness channel already in place under the plastic trim panels that you can feed the wire through, and then up through the wiring harness grommet in the firewall to the battery. Additionally, on this vehicle, the positive battery terminal as a second threaded bolt that is designed as an auxiliary post. You do not need to loosen the existing bolt or clip the eye hook. Just obtain a small bolt and washer and attach the wire to the back post on the positive terminal.

Loved the fact that the wiring was already done for me and provided in a simple to connection. The instruction video was good, but I'd run the harness thru the body trim channel on the driver side and utilize the preexisting auxiliary terminal on the battery positive post as opposed to clipping the connector and piggy backing on the front post.

boat sits outside year round and never an issue. I did use some extra anchoring, good zip ties and a good fabric type wrap from where it exits the trailer tube at the front all the way to the plug.

by:

Install was a bit tough as bolt holes didn't line up perfectly so avoiding cross threading was tough. Then the wire harness was straight forward. What I wish fit tighter was the relationship between the square hole and my ball assembly. It chuck's back and forth but maybe that's typical. It's a sturdy unit.

Chevrolet Captiva Sport

Hitch was easy to install. Bolt holes on the hitch lined up with the bolt holes on the Captiva so there was no modification needed. Wiring the light connection wasn't too hard to install.

We originally ordered a part off of another site, however, it was not the correct item. I contacted Katie at Etrailer.com and she not only expedited shipment because of my strict timeline, she made certain that we were getting the correct item. Truthfully she saved our bacon. We received the product from Etrailer.com on Thursday and we left for Texas on Monday. Katie - Thank you for your outstanding customer service. (Katie - Please make sure your boss see's this post. You need a promotion AND a raise!) I would highly recommend Etrailer.com for your hauling needs.

Very satisfied with the service, I had no Idea of what to buy for my 2015 Chevrolet Captiva and the guide me in the right way. About the price it is very good more when you see the quality of the products, I went to [other retailer] and they wanted to charge me with almost $350 including installation when it is really easy to do it by yourself, they also have instructions and videos that guide you step by step on how to install your equipment.

I would recommend them.

works as advertised. Having etrailer do the install was absolutely the right Answer for me. I am able to pull a small trailer with my Captiva now, and haul my bikes. I save money on delivery charges of larger items.

Its pretty rare that the failure of a taillight converter would cause just one function to fail. Its more likely that none of the taillight functions would work. You can confirm if the converter is faulty be either trying a different trailer on the vehicle or by trying the trailer on a different vehicle. You could also use a circuit tester like # PTW2993 on the pin fed by the yellow wire while the left turn signal is activated.

Works great, Tucks away when Not needed super easy hook up!

  • Trailer Wiring Harness Recommendation for a 2013 Chevrolet Captiva Sport
I have a trailer wiring harness that will fit your 2013 Chevrolet Captiva Sport, but there are no adapters available that will allow a custom plug-in style wiring harness for one vehicle to fit another vehicle. For your vehicle, I recommend using the Curt T-Connector Vehicle Wiring Harness, # C56257. Curt has confirmed that this harness will fit the 2013 and 2014 Captiva Sport. There really isn't a difference between the two Curt part numbers you mentioned. Both the # C56257 and # C56026 are a fit for your 2012 Chevy Captiva Sport and would work great. Essentially the numbers represent the same harness and part number in our system so either one will work great.

  • Is the Trailer Wiring Kit Included with the Draw-Tite # 75556 for a 2015 Chevrolet Captiva Sport
You are correct. The only thing that comes with the Draw-Tite Max-Frame Trailer Hitch Receiver # 75556 is the trailer hitch itself and the hardware needed for installation on your 2015 Chevrolet Captiva Sport. For a trailer wiring kit I recommend the Curt T-Connector # C56257. This plugs into the wiring behind your tail lights and just needs the wire run to the battery to power the trailer lights. This gives you a 4-Way flat connector for basic trailer lighting functions. To complete...
