Installation
This custom-fit T-connector plugs into your vehicle's wiring harness, which is located behind the driver's-side and passenger's-side interior trim panels in your rear cargo area. Once you've plugged in the T-connector, run the hot lead up to your car battery. Connect the lead to the included fuse holder, and then connect the fuse holder to the positive terminal on your battery.
Once installation is complete, the 4-way connector will be stowed in an out-of-the-way location within your cargo area.
It is recommended that you use a small amount of grease on all electrical connections - the plugs on your automobile and the 4-pole connector itself - to help prevent corrosion.
A tail light converter is built into this T-connector. This converter is a circuit-protected, battery-powered unit that bypasses the electrical routes that are used by a basic wiring harness. As a result, there is virtually no draw on your tail light circuits.
Because most trailers run on a two-wire system - wherein the brake and turn signals are carried on one wire - the separate brake and turn signals from your vehicle's three-wire system need to be combined so they are compatible with the wiring system of the trailer. This converter combines the brake and turn signal functions of your automobile so that they run on one wire to properly activate your trailer's tail lights. Note: This will not affect how the tail lights on your vehicle operate.
Curt builds each tail light converter using surface-mount technology (SMT). This method of construction involves soldering electronic components directly to the surface of a printed circuit board. SMT eliminates the need for leads, which are used in older through-hole technology. The result is a circuit board that is smaller yet provides more routing area and that offers superior performance, reliability and durability.
Circuit boards constructed using SMT have been shown to perform better under rough conditions with excessive vibration than those made using the through-hole method. And where would vibration be more likely to occur than in towing applications? Curt converters also produce less heat, leading to increased durability and longer life. In addition, lower levels of resistance ensure better performance, especially for parts that operate at higher frequencies.

I ordered a hitch and wiring harness for my 2012 Chevy Captiva. Delivery was quick and installation was pretty straight forward. The online videos were extremely helpful. My Dad and I had both the hitch and wiring harness installed within a few hours. The next time I need a hitch and/or wiring harness, I am ordering from etrailer again. Excellent products!
I installed this into my 2008 Saturn Vue and it has been working great. It took awhile to install, running wires to the front of the car, taking interior apart and so on, but I suppose that's to be expected. eTrailer videos are awesome! The next time I have a project like this, I will definitely be back.
Product works perfectly, and installation wasn't too bad although it took a lot longer than I expected. I found that the left side install was much simpler than shown in the videos. I just pried out the snap-in storage compartment to access the wiring, didn't need to remove the whole side panel as shown. Right side was pretty much as shown. It was far too cold here in winter for the double sided tape to stick, so I just nestled the unit into a wadded old pillowcase to prevent rattling and set it in the compartment. My only concern with the whole thing is leaving bits of the hot lead exposed under the vehicle where they might get damaged. But there's not much alternative unless you want to remove interior panels to get to the engine compartment...

We sell 14 inch wire loom by the foot as part # 7509-1 or in 10 foot increments as part # 7509-10. The wire loom is split down the side so it could be installed once the wire is in place, and would provide great protection for the 12-volt feed ran from the converter box to the vehicle battery.
I a little more involved that I thought it would be, but that has do with the type of vehicle I have, and no the wiring harness. Comparable harnesses required the same installation procedure. I've only had the harness on for a week, so I can't imagine I would have a problem. E-trialer's on-line video which showed where the plugs were and how to access them was very helpful. Same can be said for the trailer hitch...

How did you get to the connector located behind the factory Stereo amplifier located on the passenger side rear?I can feel the connectorplug, but cannot disconnect or connect the trailer wiring harness.
Both wiring harness and hitch were well made and easy to install,all bolt holes matched up and wiring harness plugged in effortlessly.
I only rated you half way on the scale becauseyou advertised how easy the wiring was, not! The produst itself including the wiring I feel are top notch and can't wait to use it when I travel north in may. In the future you should be a lettle more explicit about the wiring it is not a plug and play as you lead me to believe and not have take half the interior apart and run a wire and inline fuse from front to rear of vehicle. Be interest to see if you preview my response.
Very well made with a quality finish. Oh: One more thing, It fit!
My hitch arrived within two days. Pat was really helpful and ensured I ordered the right parts. Very happy with my purchase.

the tail light adapter was easy to put in and it works well
I didn't have a clue how to install it till I found the video on the internet. Then it took about three hours. Moderate skill level is required.
The product worked perfect for my vehicle. The how-to videos that they supply were more than helpful. They Went above and beyond what most companies might have done.
Directions were lacking but video was helpful. Install was a little difficult.
