Winter Buoy Won't Get Trapped in Ice

In cold climates, round mooring buoys can become trapped in the ice on the water's surface, causing wear over time and limiting the buoy's lifespan. The Sully Stick, on the other hand, is long and narrow, making it more difficult for the ice to surround it and freeze it in place. This ensures a long-lasting mooring buoy that can withstand harsh winter temperatures and won't wear down from surrounding ice.

Video Transcript for Review of Taylor Made Boat Accessories - Buoy - 36922120

Hey everyone, I'm Ellen here at etrailer.com. Today we're taking a look at the Taylor Made Sully Stick winter mooring buoy. So this is going to help be an anchor point for your boat, especially in those locations where it's going to get pretty icy over the winter. A lot of times with the bigger round mooring buoys, those can actually get trapped by the ice and it causes them to wear down prematurely, so we shouldn't have to worry about that as much with this design, since it's going to be longer and narrow and more tapered, it doesn't get as trapped by that ice, so it should stay working for a long time. The design has this hole at the bottom that can be attached to our anchor point. It does need about a six and a half pound chain weight to actually stand up vertically and then it has a buoyancy rating of 15 pounds. So if you have that six and a half pound chain, you'll probably be limited as far as how much weight it can actually take after that.

But, shouldn't really have to worry about that too much. There are a couple of little notches in the buoy itself to allow your rope to sit on there and not come free. The tape at the top is a reflective material as well as kind of having that nice two color look to it. So it should make it a little bit more visible even at night, does it reflect water or reflect the light for you. It's a little bit hard to see.

You have to kind of be right at the right angle. Pretty much, if that light is coming right at it, it'll reflect back at you.But as far as our measurements, the total length is about 30 inches tall or 31 inches tall. If you go to the very bottom to the very top. And then it's about six inches in diameter at the base. So at its widest there's about six inches.

The opening, or attachment hole has an inner diameter of about an inch and a quarter. And then the visible height above the waterline is going to be 18 inches. So, about to there. That's going to be about our visible point right there. Everything else should be submerged in the water.

Again, the buoyancy rating for this is 15 pounds. It's made out of a durable polypropylene material, so it should be resistant to any kind of wear from being in the water. And then the bottom hole does have a galvanized metal bushing inside the molding to help give that a little bit more strength and rigidity.Inside our shell, that polyurethane or a polypropylene shell, it does have a closed cell foam, so it's going to help to displace the water and give it a nice buoyancy. It's a hard word to say. Anyway, that's going to do it for our look at the Taylor Made Sully Stick winter mooring buoy. Hopefully this video has been helpful in determining if this is going to be the right one for you. We do have some other options available here at etrailer.com, so definitely check those out if you're interested. Thanks for watching and we'll see you next time.
