Video Transcript for WeatherTech Easy-On Stone and Bug Shield Deflector Installation - 2022 Ram 2500

What's up everybody It's AJ with etrailer.com. Today we're gonna be checking out this WeatherTech Rock and Bug Shield. It's gonna be going on a 2022 Ram 2500. Taking a closer look at our Shield here. It's made out of an aerospace-grade acrylic. It's sturdy.

As I knock on it, you can hear it's not just a flimsy piece of plastic. So, if it does take a couple rocks to it, it's not gonna shatter and break it. It's gonna hold up for a long time. How it detaches, is underneath. It does use some of the spots there, where you have the fasteners.

So you will have to pop those out to install it, but I like that it is fastened in there. It's not just some tape that we put underneath there to tape it into place. It's actually fastened so you don't have to worry about it coming off. As far as install goes, it's not so bad. Check out how I did it.

First thing we want to do before lining up our Bug Shield, we're gonna wanna do a test fit. But before we do that, let's clean off the area we're gonna be working on. So I just got some alcohol here on this cloth and go up the rubber strip. We've already cleaned off the top of the hood, so just coming here on the bottom, before we start doing our test fit. With the hood brought down, we're gonna do a test fit with the Bug Shield.

We're gonna slide it into place and see where it lines up. We wanna line up with some of the tabs underneath. So you see, it needs to go right about here. And each one of these tabs lines up with a fitting we gotta pop out 'cause that's how we're gonna secure it. So you can see they go all the way across and now it's gonna line up with just a few of 'em. We got one here, so that's good. Looks like there's one here as well. So that's gonna line up. Looks like all the way down, it's gonna be just fine. So what I'm gonna do, is leave this on here and I'm gonna get some Blue Painters Tape and mark each one of the ones that we're gonna replace with the hardware that comes with the Bug Shield. Put the Blue Painters Tape next to each one of the fasteners I need to remove. Now, I didn't leave any marks on there, but I know which ones I need to remove with my flat blade screwdriver. So we're just gonna pop those out. And just find an edge to get under there and carefully pry it out around the end. We used the flat blade screwdriver, but it was easier to actually use the Trim Panel Tool. So I'm just gonna do that and that's gonna help me back that out. So now we can put in the replacement hardware that came with the Bug Shield. So I'm gonna go down the line for all the Blue Tape that we put up and pop those out. You might've noticed that the original hardware snapped out. That's okay because this is the replacement hardware that came with the Bug Shield. So this is what's gonna go in, place of those. So if they do snap like you heard or saw, it's all right 'cause you got new hardware. Now with those fasteners removed, I can put the Bug Shield back on. And what we're gonna do is, these flanges that we attached, go between the rubber portion and the hood. So, I'm just gonna go along here. Peel it back a little bit, as we slide the Bug Shield into place. Now we're gonna put our new facet into place. You wanna make sure you slide the Bug Shield underneath our rubber seal here, and then this potion is gonna go under there as well. So we're gonna line that up with the hole. Make sure it's lined up right there. Gonna bring the Bug Shield back a little bit so we get that hole exposed. Push that in. Now, it's not gonna go in very far right here. But we line it up, start the screw just a little bit. Don't go too much 'cause it'll expand as you do that. But we'll get it started so that can push up with the screwdriver and it should snap into place. So we got started there. Push up with the screwdriver. There you go. It's gone in place and then I can just tighten it down. We're gonna repeat that process on all the other holes. Something that helped me out is, if you are having problems with the base going up into the hole, you can push down on the flange and make sure it's flat up against the hood. And then try pushing in. There was a few of these that gave us a little bit of problems, but that trick helped us get all of them in. Okay, now once they're in, we can go ahead and remove the painters tape. Now we're gonna install these stops on the hood of the truck. We'll go around and see where it comes close to your hood, and that's where you'll install, only so that if it does flex a little bit, it's not gonna be scratching that up. So we're gonna look as we go. It looks like this area, it comes the closest. Up on top, it really doesn't get that close. We're gonna go on both ends here. We've already cleaned off the area. So just peel back the stop, and stick it into place. Wanna go right here in the corner, 'cause that's where it's the closest. Seemed good right there. Now we don't have to worry about, if it does come down, it'll hit that stop before it touches the paint. Now we're gonna repeat that for the other side, and any other places where it looks like it's coming close. Overall, it wasn't too bad to get it installed. Didn't take me that long. And once it's on there, it actually looks pretty nice. It looks factory with the truck. And I know it's gonna help protect any rock chips from getting kicked up there, or even just bugs hitting it. It'll be nice not to worry about the front of the hood here. Well, I think that does it. Thanks for hanging out, and I hope this helped..

It was warped a bit and would not work on my 23 ram. I did receive a refund

I purchased this bug deflector for my Jayco Greyhawk motorhome about a year ago and it has held up beautifully. I am sure that without it I would have chips and issues on the motorhome after putting 15k miles on it. Thanks e-trailer for quick shipments and great support.

by:

It fit fine. Only issue was with the first hole on the drivers side. It was either thin or drilled a bit larger as the screw for it would not bite and hold. I used a clip I had on hand for this and it worked fine.

by:

I really like it. Easy to install and very sleek looking
I need to order another one because I hit a deer and my hood is getting replaced, so I will be getting another one

by:

Really great product and a perfect hood protector from road rocks and bugs.

by:

I have purchased and used WeatherTech products in the past, always had good quality and concise installation instructions. I recently added the Stone and Bug deflector on my 2019 Colorado, it looks great. Having a new windshield installed because of a stone crack, hope to avoid these in the future.

by:

I ordered a bug deflector specific for my truck but this one seemed to be a generic for GM trucks. the tabs did not fit properly for the underside of my hood. The double sided tape did not match properly to the underside of the hood and the tape was not sticky enough to adhere to the metal. The outboard retainer clips were not the proper style to clip to my hood and stay in place. Road vibaration causes the clips to disengage each time I drive the vehicle

by:

Easy installation, arrived fast and great price!

by:

Install went ok, some of the red plastic you pull off the adhesive broke off and would not come off. Hope it will not effect long term performance of bug shield.

by:

Weather Tech Easy-on bug guard has worked great since installed a year ago. UV damage has not occurred. Holds up extremely well to driving usage.

by:

It is a quality product, but I would not say it is an easy install. After removing the necessary fasteners, it was tricky getting the tabs lined up between the rubber lip and hood. I don’t think I could have accomplished this without my wife’s help. Secondly, some of six included replacement fasteners were extremely difficult to install.

Weathertech only included the six required fasteners with no spares. I bent the tips of the two most outboard fasteners trying to get them aligned with the existing holes (hard to see when peering through the rubber and shield), so those two are not properly anchored at the moment.

I contacted Weathertech; they are sending me replacements free of charge. Weathertech should consider including a few extras in the kit.

The install, which after viewing etrailer’s excellent video, should have taken 30 minutes or less, but because of those fastener issues, took me about 1.5 hours.

I’ve owned six chevy trucks. My current trusted steed is a 2008, silverado 2500HD, ext cab, long box. I bought it new and now have 339,000 miles on her. I added this bug shield to offer more protection and grace. It worked! Love it.

by:

Looks Good and Does what it is made to do. Thanks etrailer

by:

Had this bug deflector for a year now. Very happy with it. Easy to install yourself using existing parts on the stock truck. Better than the adhesive only on other brands. Solid and looks great.

by:

Easy to install and durable!

by:

This bug shield was easy to install. The installation instructions were clear and easy to understand. This bug shield has met all my expectations after two summers of Arizona heat & over 10,000 miles.

by:

Perfect fit & easy to install. Start to finish maybe 20 minutes. Love it.

Great quality, good fit overall…BUT, once again WeatherTech is “cheaping out” on their fasteners! Those ridiculous plastic push pin type fasteners DO NOT inspire confidence at all…the etrailer installation video acknowledged this. Come on WeatherTech…these things are IMPORTANT!!

by:

I am so happy with my Weather Tech Bug Shield. Shipping was quick and installation was easy. It fits like a glove on my motor home and looks terrific. I would definitely order again for any of my needs. Thank you!

2018 Toyota Rav4 Adventure. Item arrived quickly! The shipping box was damaged but the defector inside was fine. The product was described as on the website.
Only complaint really is with WeatherTech they are know for great products but screw up in other areas. They shrink wrap the defector and they really need to cover it before doing that because mine had a few scratches. The next things is the plastic fastener screws are too cheap and break and need to be longer.

by:

Item arrived quickly and was as described. Only complaint was that the plastic fastener screws were either too short or too cheap because they wouldn't "catch" in the fasteners. I substituted my own screws and then it was a breeze. That isn't etrailer.com's fault though. Everything on their end was great!
