Roadmaster Anti-Sway Bar Installed

Benefits of an Anti-Sway System

The Roadmaster anti-sway bar does for side-to-side movement what a good pair of shocks does for up-and-down motion. You will notice a marked improvement in your vehicle's stability as the bar works to balance weight transfer and reduce body roll. The anti-sway bar acts as a link between your vehicle's frame and its rear axle, using the axle as a brace to more effectively balance the shifting weight of your vehicle as you maneuver it. Lubricated bushings allow just enough pivot and rotation to compensate for the pressure placed on one side of your vehicle when it goes into sudden maneuvers, hits crosswinds or encounters shifting weights.

Roadmaster Anti-Sway Polyurethane Bushings

Superior Construction

The Roadmaster anti-sway bar is made of 4140 chromoly, a chromium and molybdenum steel alloy. This type of steel is considerably harder and stronger than the standard 1020 steel that is typically used in anti-sway applications. In addition, the larger diameter of the bar increases its torsional roll stiffness. The result is a bar that is not only stronger than the competition, but also nearly 30 percent better at resisting sway. The polyurethane bushings and grommets used at the attachment points are durable yet flexible, ensuring that the system is neither so rigid nor so malleable that it becomes ineffective.

This product arrived on time, and is as described in company literature. I have installed the sway bars and the sumo springs on my 2019 Ford E3 26 foot Thor motorhome. Installation is fairly straightforward. Having said that, I am a retired farmer and I am quite familiar with this type of work. Having the proper tools makes the job go much quicker and easier. Installation of the front sway bar took a little under an hour. The rear sway bar is a bit more complicated to install, but he can be easily accomplished by someone of average mechanical skills, equipped with the proper tools. I strongly recommend removing the rear wheels to facilitate installation of the springs and the sway bar. I have not driven my motorhome yet, but will be taking an extended trip in March. I am looking forward to an improved ride.

My wife and I took an extended trip from Minnesota to Seattle and then back via Colorado last fall. We drove varied terrain in all types of weather. The improved ride and handling was significant. Driving was much less fatiguing and we felt much safer driving mountain roads and through prairie winds. You will not be disappointed.

by:

helped a lot ! also did front sway and sumo springs all around. unbelievable difference in handling in mountains, high winds and interstates 2015 Thor Vegas 24.1 class A

by:

This anti sway bar had an immediate improvement on handling since there was not a rear antisway bar from the factory.. This is on a 24 foot Minnie Winnie. Installation was straight forward.

by:
2015 Ford E-Series Cutaway

I was skeptical, but after driving the RV the sway bar made a significant difference. The product greatly reduced body roll when going around curves and turning. It also took the oversteer out of the vehicle. It is a definite improvement over the factory OEM. Well pleased.

I can’t believe how much better the RV handles, especially cornering.

--Etralier & Roadmaster Anti-Sway-Bar Review--

I
do not do product reviews--but am doing so here simply to express the AWESOME Customer Service, Articles, & Products at etrailer.com!

I have an old 1988 7.3 IDI (N/A Diesel) E350 transporter van (extended length with hightop) that I have spent a decade working on and just opted for front and rear Roadmaster anti-sway-bars.

I am so grateful I ordered them from etrailer! etrailer made the purchase process INCREDIBLE & the anti-sway-bars installed easily in an evening.

CUSTOMER SERVICE:

Via a private browser I inadvertently placed my order & received an error.

Hitting the "Live Chat" & within moments August from etrailer.com had answered saying my order was not in the system & it was safe to redo the order (which I did in a regular browser).

Just hours after placing the order (7 PM Pacific Time) I realized there was a third Roadmaster option (1 5/8" thick rear anti-sway-bar) I did not notice (see below for details of Roadmaster fit for the 1975-1991 Ford van, as I have worked out).

I again hit "Live Chat", at 7 PM!, & Matthew from etrailer within moments talked with a tech and confirmed I had (thankfully) ordered the correct part.

The next morning I awoke to an email from George at etrailer.com saying my order had been shipped and would arrive on Tuesday (~5 days across the U.S.).

The tracking link showed a map tracking the order as well who processed the order at etrailer.com (George), who gathered the order at etrailer.com (Cody), and who packaged (shipped) the order at etrailer.com (Michael)--with pics of the person.

The order arrived well packaged--from the factory I think--with only 2 cosmetic punctures (see pics if concerned--but for heavy (~36 lbs each) & awkward items across the U.S.--no complaints here).

Upon arrival, I received (what I assume is automated--but still) an email from Carol to follow up on the order.

Incredible!

ARTICLES:

Since then I have scanned some of etrailer.com's articles & they seem honest & insight-fully written (like the article discussing the cost/benefit, return on investment, of solar power*).

PRODUCTS:

There are also rather specialty products on etrailer I have wondered about but for lack of time have never researched (nor stumbled upon elsewhere). For example Kat's Heater Ether Start Fluid Injection System.**

Plus, from what I have gathered, they have product experts on-hand, with their names & pictures.

Do you know anywhere else with such customer service?!?!?

ROADMASTER ANTI-SWAY-BAR FIT
(for the 1975 - 1991 Ford Econoline van):

For fit, what I've worked out using the Roadmaster Fitmaster website*** is there are 5 variants for the 1975-1991 REAR anti-sway-bar & one item for the front (but do double check me!):

Part #1139-108 with a 1 3/8" anti-sway-bar: not for diesel
Part #1139-117 with a 1 1/2" anti-sway-bar: recommended for diesel E350 (what I contacted customer support over)
Part #1139-119 / RM83ZR with a 1 5/8" anti-sway-bar
Part #1139-108 with 1 3/8" anti-sway-bar: FOR auto-chain vehicles.
Part #1139-198 with a 1 1/2" anti-sway-bar: FOR auto-chain vehicle.

Part #1139-100 is 1 3/8" & is the only anti-sway-bar for the FRONT (I understand).

Unfortunately I have yet to test drive as I must tie several things down first & wanted to get this review out ASAP. But all reviews I have read say these anti-sway-bars are night and day difference.

SUMMARY:

In sum, there in no other company in the U.S, I have ordered from in over a decade that has done such a STELLAR job as etrader.com.

(And fixing/modernizing a 30 year old diesel van has required me ordering MASSIVE parts).

If etrailer is not one of the best companies in America, I do not know who is.

Order from etrailer with complete confidence.

THANK YOU so much etrailer!

Keep up the INCOMPREHENSIBLE job!

May you all be blessed,

This is an amazing anti sway bar. They shipped it fast and it arrived earlier then estimated. Was easy to install. All you need is included.

by:

It took an hour to install, perfect fit. For the E350 Super Duty Van on a 6" lift the install helped out on the swaying. Upgraded the front as well. Worth the investment.

by:

We purchased item no. RM-1139-117 for our 1986 class c rv. It made a world of difference in the way it handles. Our son who is a mechanic at Peterbilt Manitoba did the install.

by:

Big difference in the my RV handles! Very happy with product!!

by:

I added the roadmaster rear and front anti-sway bars and front steering stabilizer to my 2016 coachman class C rv. It made a world of difference. They took out 90% (estimated) sway from wind and from trucks. It feels so much safer to drive. I would highly recommend this modification for any rv.

by:

Great service and fast delivery. Installed on our 2017 Class C RV and made a world of difference on our cross country trip. Hardly notice any sway at all when driving or passing trucks, not even during strong wind gusts. Had it professionally installed by a local mechanic. Highly recommended doing the upgrade. May be overkill but this was done along with the front sway bar, upgraded steering stabilizer and sumo springs at all 4 wheels. Important for my peace of mind doing some long distance highway driving.

by:

My 89 E-350 didn't have any sway bar one the rear, I didn,t know if it would be worth the investment or not.. The unit drives so much better, it's great..

World of Difference, Not nearly as tired after driving

by:

Awesome! Our E-350 camper van drove like a boat. The anti-sway bars made all the difference in the world. No more white knuckle grip on the steering wheel. Now I'm cruising down the freeway with a cup of coffee in one hand. Thanks etrailer!

by:

Big difference excellent quality and easy install. Did job right on ground in driveway. Really drives nice and solid now recover on bumps are recovered in one bounce instead of 5 to 6 bounces . I did front and back .Also added the rescue roadmaster reflex steering stabilizer what a difference . Install on 2018 winnabego Minnie Winnie .

by:

I love etrailer sales representatives and products. I have an RV and have equipped my vehicles with trailer hitches for various purposes. etrailer staff and representatives are always helpful. Additionally one big feature I see on etrailer site is their installation videos and video product reviews. These are extremely helpful to me since I do may own installations. One minor comment. When you do your videos include both sides of the vehicle especially if one side is more difficult then the other. I realize some times you video the easy side because of camera set up. Even so you installation videos are definite a great help.

by:
Thor

I installed your sway bars on a Thor Axis motor home. It really solved the tendency of my RV to rock out of control on rough roads and/or windy days. I was able to install myself and instructions were excellent.

by:
2013 Coachmen Freelander Motorhome

Needed to take some of the sway out of my class C motorhome. Ordered and received from eTrailer quickly, very well packaged. The sway bar is significantly heavier than stock. Installed in about 3 hours and it made a very noticable improvement in my motorhome handling. If I installed it again, I could probably do in about 1 1/2 hours.

by:

Installed this on my '96 Coachmen class C. The installation was straightforward; because I was replacing an OEM sway bar, some of the included brackets were not required. The only challenge with the installation was the weight of this bar - so it would be an easier install job if you have a helper. The RV drives well and with less body sway - which is what I was looking for.

by:

Looks good...delivery was uneventful. I haven't installed the stabilizer but it looks pretty rugged and will do fine. etrailer customer service was awesome. Tracking was accurate and on time. Highly recommend.

2018 Thor Chateau Motorhome

This rear anti-sway bar was installed in the 2018 E350 Thor Chateau U23 without any issue and without the need to drill the hole for upper vertical-run link. Have not done the test drive run yet to see the effect.

by:
2021 Suzuki Swift

Great product and a perfect fit. This makes a huge difference in handling on my Thor Chateau Class C RV! Cornering and driving in crosswinds are the largest areas of improvement, plus a massive reduction in wind blasts when 18-wheelers pass at highway speeds. As always, a swift fulfillment and accurate fit thanks to eTrailer!

by:

I ordered anti-sway bars but not installed yet. Lori B helped me with my order. Very nice and very helpful. She wasn't sure of the time frame the order would be sent and received but I received my order two days after being ordered. That speaks well of etrailer and the staff at etrailer. I am very thankful for Lori B's help. I will order from etrailer again as needed.

by:

All of the parts fit great and only took about 1.5 hours for the removal and installation.

Works great

  • What is Difference Between Two Roadmaster Sway Bars that Fit 2012 Ford E-350
Since there are several different variations of vans similar to your 2012 Ford E-350 there were several different styles of sway bars made to cover all of them. In this process there is some overlap which is why for your vehicle the part # RM-1139-117 and # RM-1139-198 both are a fit.
