Video Transcript for Coghlans Tent Pole Replacement Kit Review

So we have a big campsite here at etrailer, everyone's out and about, but what happened was our tent poles did become damaged. So we needed to repair them real quick before we set them up right over here. So it's kind of hot outside. Let's take it in to take a look at that replacement kit. So here we have our old tent poles and they're gonna need some repair. So we have the tent pole replacement kit.

This has 1, 2, 3, 4 poles. You also have your vinyl caps, your metal caps some shock cord, and inside the tent pole you're also gonna have your leading wire. So if you need to replace the tent poles of your own current tent, what you would do is you would first take out the shock cord. So see how this is connected If it's further up, just go ahead and take all of those out. If it's at the end, like what we have here you can just take the last pole out.

Now my personal recommendation is go ahead and replace the shock cord all throughout your tent. You do get some wear and tear over time. It loses elasticity. So it's just a good idea while you have eight feet of shock cord here, to use all of it. You also have to make sure you have the right replacement parts before you replace things.

So notice how we have our old tent pole and our new tent pole. We do have some differences in diameter here, for some tents that won't make a difference, for others it will. So just double check the size of the loop inside of your tent, to see if you can replace it with this. You can also see that there's a difference in length. So this is our old tent pole, and our new one is going to be 3/8 inches in diameter, which is the width as well as 26 inches tall.

Now, if you are using a pole of different sizes, what will then happen is you can get your smaller pole, line that up with the larger pole, with the metal end. And then go ahead, take some pliers to pinch it, in order to make it more secure. So this is the reason we need to replace the shock cord. So the cord itself became really unflexible. So it had to pull it and keep adding knots to keep all the tent poles together, until it came to the point where it pulled too tight. And then it released from the bottom tent pole. So we're just gonna go ahead and label all of our tent poles to make sure they come back to the same spot. This is a very simple setup because they're all the same. But sometimes you have different size poles, for different areas of your awnings or tents. And that's when labeling them with a marker will be very helpful. After labeling your poles, you're now ready to cut the shock cord. So we're just gonna go up on the tent poles until we find the cord. And we're just gonna make a cut there. That way we can take it out completely. Usually they're connected at the very end. There should be a knot there. So go ahead and pop that out of the tent pole. And that's gonna be where you put your new knot. Before we replace our shock cord, let's do a quick comparison. You can see the old shock cord here where it's a little stretched out and frayed. And then we have our nice, shiny new one. So now we're going to start threading our shock cord. So remember that end cap we took off of the tent pole Well, now you're gonna put the new shock cord through, make a knot so that it secures itself in that cap. And then continue threading these through the rest of your tent poles. You see here how I made a hook with the wire Well now, I brought that through our tent pole, and then I'm gonna use that to wrap around or hook onto your shock cord. And then pull that through your tent pole. And once you've made it through all your tent poles and you have your end, what you're then gonna do is you can try to get as much tension as you can. So pull on that shock cord. You want the tension so that everything will spring together when it's in the folded up position. So once you have your tension, you can then make your knot. Don't forget to cut off the excess cord, once you've made your knot. So if you did everything correctly you should have a well tensioned tent pole. And the reason you want good tension, is to make it easier when you're setting up your campsite, just like that. And then you have the options of using either the vinyl caps, or the metal caps at the end, in order to secure it to the ground, if you are using the end piece. But other than that, that's how you're replace your tent pole as well as your shock cord. If you're just replacing the shock cord, you can check out that repair kit right here at etrailer. So if you need more than eight feet of shock cord, you could take a look at the tent pole repair kit, which has 11 feet of shock cord as well as some washers that will help you out. We also have a vinyl repair kit. And if you are using specific brands, let's say you have a Kelty tent, we also have replacement parts specific for the tent. So just try to make sure you get the right parts for the right situation. And that right there was a look at our Coghlan's Tent Pole Replacement Kit, here at etrailer..
