Rob: Hey everybody. Rob here at etrailer.com, and today we're going to be taking a look at the Blue Ox tow bar with the Roadmaster base plate adapter.Now, there could be a few different reasons why you need an adapter. Maybe you have a Blue Ox tow bar from your old setup, you got a new vehicle and you have to have a Roadmaster base plate. Well, there's no reason to go out and buy a new tow bar if your one is in good working condition. Buying an adapter is going to be a lot more cost effective, again, rather than having to replace a lot of big components.Now our adapter is going to be made to work with Roadmaster MS, MX and EZ5 or direct connect base plates. It's also going to work with Blue Ox motor home-mounted tow bars.
What that means is that the tow bar is going to slide directly into the receiver tube, and not have any kind of coupler or extra connecting point.Now, you do need to keep in mind that the pins that are going to be securing our tow bar to our base plate do not come with the adapter. And the pins from your Blue Ox tow bar are going to be too small to fit through the base plate. So you may want to pick up a set of replacement pins. You'll get two pins that clip to secure everything down, along with four washers to take up some of that space and cut down on the rattling noise here.Now, as far as the installation of our adapter goes, it's an extremely straightforward process, and really, all you're going to need is a three quarter inch wrench and socket. In fact, let's go ahead and go through the process together.Putting your adapter in place is going to be extremely easy.
To begin our installation, I do want to start out saying we already have one in place, and we'll go ahead and put this one on together.In your kit, you're going to have two adapters, two hex bolts, two lock nuts, and eight washers. Now, each one of our adapters is going to get four washers, one nut, one bolt, and the adapter itself. So you want to grab your tow bar. We're going to come to the very end, where the factory connection point is.Now, we're going to have a bolt going through it that's actually attaching this piece on. So you want to grab yourself a three quarter inch socket and wrench to hold the nut on the bottom and use the socket to turn the bolt on top.Once the nut's loose, you can pull the bolt out.
There are going to be some nylon washers in there, so you want to make sure those come out as well. We can set these aside and simply grab our new adapter. We're going to take two washers, we're going to line them up, put them on the bottom. We'll slide our adapter over.I want to put two more washers in between the top section and then we'll take our bolt and we can pass it through. And it maybe a little difficult to get all of these washers to line up.
So if you have a screwdriver or a pen, or really anything that's going to be skinny enough so you can just kind of move the washers to where they're going to line up in place, and we can get the bolt to go through all of them.Once you have the bolt going through, we can grab our new lock nut. Loosely get it in place for now, and we'll use that same three quarter inch wrench and socket and we're going to snug it up. But when you do tighten this, you want to make sure that the bolt comes through the nut, but you don't want it on there so tight that it doesn't move. You still want to be able to pivot that adapter.And we see we have a couple threads coming through, so we know it's nice and secure. And then the other arm's going to be the exact same process. So just put the other one on, and you're ready to hook up to your motor home.And hooking up your tow bar to your base plate's going to be a really easy process. We'll simply slide the arm into place, and you may notice there's a little bit of slop there. Well, we have some nylon bushings or washers that we're going to use, but keep in mind these don't come with the adapter. They're going to come with a replacement pin. And again, it's just to take up some of that extra space.So we'll slide the washer over our pin before it goes through our adapter, and then on the other side before it goes through our base plate, slide another washer in place, make sure our holes line up. We take our pin and clip and secure everything down.Again, I'm Rob here at etrailer.com, and that'll finish up your look at the Blue Ox tow bar to Roadmaster base plate adapter.

These were exactly what I needed. I changed tow vehicles to a Honda HRV (manual) and the only base plate available was the Roadmaster. These adapters took about 10 minutes to change my Blue Ox tow bar to accept the Roadmaster.
Needed this adapter to connect my blue ox tow bar to the roadmaster base plate on the car. The adapter was in stock and shipped quickly to meet my needs.
This product saved me time and money by not having to make an adaptor from my Blue Ox tow bar to Roadmaster base.

Great product. Worked perfect. Didn't realize that it didn't come with the pins (my fault) and the pins I had were too small. Had to order correct pins and pay additional shipping. The correct pins are 3/4" diameter so if yours are smaller than that, order the right ones with the kit to avoid additional shipping charges.....just FYI.
