The short answer is no, a weight distribution system isn't required in order to pull a 2,000 pound camper with your 2018 Jeep Cherokee. With a small camper like this I honestly don't think the benefits would outweigh the install process and cost of a full system, although what I do recommend doing is adding a single sway bar like the Curt Friction Sway Control # 17200.
With smaller campers rear sag on the tow vehicle isn't typically a problem, but sway (side-to-side movement) is a pretty standard burden, especially when cruising down the highway. The Curt Sway Control Bar is a simple add-on component that will attach to the trailer frame and your ball mount to add tension at the connection point, fighting this side-to-side movement and stabilizing your overall setup. It's just going to make the trips to and from your camp grounds a much more enjoyable experience.
I have attached a short video and the written installation instructions that you can check out as well.
