Can Taller Trailer Tires be Used to Raise the Height of a Trailer

Question:

Hi, We had an old trailer given to us but it is too low to pass state inspection. The current tires are 4.80X8 can we use a 5.30X12inch tire to raise the trailer height?

You could go to a larger tire size on the trailer as long as there is enough room all around the existing tires for the larger size. Going from a 4.80-8 to a 5.30-12 is a pretty big jump. The 5.30-12 is about 5.8 inches taller and about 0.5 inches wider. The width is probably not an issue but if the trailer has fenders or anything else above them then the larger size would likely not fit.

You will also need to use different wheels. I have included a link to the tire and wheel combos in size 5.30-12 for you.
