Is There a High Speed Rated 4.80/4.00-8 Trailer Tire

Question:

I currently have a utility trailer with Deestone 4.80x8 D-901-4. From what I can tell this is a 62 mph tire. I travel on highways a lot with those speed limits being up to 75 mph, but with me cruising at 60. All I’m hauling is a 100 lb kayak. Is there a replacement tire in that size with a higher speed rating? If not, any suggestions or thoughts? Thanks in advance.

Helpful Expert Reply:

These smaller diameter trailer tires simply aren't rated for high speeds. The standard for a tire this size is 65 mph. There would not be enough space for a tire with higher speed rating so the best option would be to simply reduce speed while traveling. If you travel in excess of the tire's capability, this will lead to increased temperatures and the potential for a blowout. I recommend a quality tire like the Kenda Loadstar K371 Bias Trailer Tire part # AM10002 and staying within the manufacturers listed 65 mph rating.
