Oh my, I hate to hear that it was thrown away. Can you tell me more about what you did not like about the rack?

by:

For the few times we take bikes with us, it has worked out well. I use pool noodles over the bike frames and rack bars to keep from scratching the paint off the bikes. I spaced them for adult bikes, so the kids bikes don't sit down tight. I've just used the 1" tie ratchet straps and rubber straps to hold everything down. It can be challenging to get 4 bikes secure, but I haven't lost one yet. There really aren't any good spots to hook into, so I may modify accordingly. I would probably by them again.

by:

Easy to mount, and four bikes fit fine. I wanted a platform rack, and I need to carry four bikes, so there are not many choices.
Construction seems sturdy. Even though I tightened it fully down, it still has little play, but nothing to worry if you load it with your bikes.
Just did a longer trip with four bikes on a 30ft TT, they did not move a bit. I now have to figure out a more efficient way to tie the bikes down.

by:

Because our Coachmen Clipper travel trailer has the bumper UNDER the trailer, I had to really improvise to get clearance for the bolts to tighten around the bumper. With persistence and God's help, it is a miracle that it is a solid fit for our two bikes and I like it a lot.

by:

The install was easy enough, but it almost bent my bumper on a 2021 unit. The rack is heavy and with four bikes on the leveraged rack, it will bend the bumper of most trailers. I recommend a way of angling a piece of metal to the frame to take some of the weight. Great product if your bumper is solid.

This bike rack is meant to be used with continuous welded steel square bumpers at least 4 inches and no more then 4 and a half inches wide. It is not for use on aluminum or spot welded bumpers. The rack capacity was 120 pounds at 30 pounds per bike.

Robert R.

1/27/2023

The rack was used with a continuous weld steel bumper and was still way to heavy for the bumper. It started to bend the bumper and sag because no matter how tight the bolts, the bumper was going to give. I would not recommend this product for any RV bumper unless you have a really heavy gage steel bumper on your RV. If the rack was made of aluminum, it may work better, but not sure. The design is such that so much weight from the bike rack is already leveraged out, adding bikes just stresses the bumper out and starts to bend most steel bumpers. I would recommend a hitch and multi bike rack that puts more weigh going down on the bumper evenly rather than exerting torsion on two points of a square tube bumper. I ahve tried to sell the Bumper Rack 4 RV Bike Rack For Up To 4 Bikes, but nobody will buy it. Most likely going to sell it a scrap yard or repurpose it in the yard somehow. It does make a great clothes drying rack at the beach however.

I was looking for a rack to accommodate 2 adult bikes, my bike trailer and either my kids bikes or a storage bin.

My old rack was mounted to a 2" receiver mounted to bumper. My old bumper had to be repaired once since there was so much stress from the single mounting point of the bolt on hitch.

I used this rack for 1 year on my old camper and it worked great. It is very sturdy, and by distributing the weight on the bumper, there was/is no movement. I loaded it down with 2 adult bikes, my bike trailer, a porta-tote, a small bin of misc hookup stuff and a large bin with hatchets, hammers, kindling, etc (very heavy). It held up great.

It worked so well, and was in such good shape that I kept it and I have mounted it to my new 5th wheel. So far so good. The only thing I have done is replaced the 8 bolts that mount to the bumper with grade-8 since the old grade 5 lock nuts were not in that great a shape.

I highly recommend this rack.

This was to replace a 2"

Del

Still love it, pack all my gear and bikes, and no movement. Recommend to anyone with a sturdy bumper

by:

It is okay for larger bikes. However with smaller bikes (24” and under) when you tighten ratchet straps it has a propensity to snag the wheels/rims of the bicycles and bend them. I have bent two bicycle rims with this system. This is one product that I certainly wouldn’t recommend unless you are transporting 24” or larger bicycles.

I have upgraded to a frame bicycle holder that holds the bicycles by the frame.

After talking to the manufacturer, it seems like the issue is coming from the smaller bikes tire size not fitting the bike rack securely. To make them fit better, you could try put piping foam around the tires to bring the width up to that of a standard size tire, and therefore a more secure fit.

by:

solid construction, easy assembly, I had to make some adjustments to work around my spare tire.(moved the tire over 4 inches)The two bike model would not have worked. I am using the 4 bike carrier for two bikes and could carry a third in the outer slots if necessary.

8/10/2013

I like the looks of this bike carrier. It would appear the bikes will not bang together while traveling. Not sure if I understand how the bikes are tied down. Doesnt appear to be any uprights to tie the bike to. Please clarrify. Thanks.

Patrick B.

8/14/2013

The tie-down method is up to the end user. We recommend something like ratchet straps or cam-buckle straps that will not give or flex like a bungee cord would. Part 05605 is a 4 pack of cam-buckle straps that we recommend for this rack.

Wishart B.

12/5/2014

Thanks for this comment. I am looking for a bike rack that will go alongside a spare tire mount I need to carry three or four bikes. Would you possibly have a picture of your set up that you could send?

by:

Ordering and timely delivery were excellent.
Assembly
was easy. All parts fit, all were in the box, and all the weld joints were tight and strong.
This is a very beefy piece of hardware. Heavy gauge steel.
I recommend watching the video about assembly; it answered some questions before they came up.
One it's installed on our fifth wheel and gets some miles hauling bikes, hopefully I'll be ready to add the fifth star to my rating.
So far, so good.

Fred S.

5/22/2018

The rack met our needs and expectations. It’s strong and stable and the only rear-bumper rack I would trust on a towed vehicle. The only compromise is having to put the spare tire in the front bin of our fifth wheel. I now give it five stars.

by:

Delivered timely and when promised. Easy to install although it's a 2 person job. Held the bikes well. We used a few bungee cords and tie-downs.

Your product has been great. We use it often and have been very happy with it.

by:

Absolutely love this four bike rack! I was under the impression that there would never be a safe and effective way to carry all four of our family's bikes off the back end of our 30 ft. travel trailer but I was wrong! This works exactly as described. My husband and I installed it and with the tie downs we were on our way. We did find that on our maiden voyage with the rack the bikes "fell" into each other a bit and that caused the tie downs to loosen. We now make sure that we secure them as tight as possible next to each other and we have solved the problem. We also decided to remove it every year and store it in our garage when we winterized our trailer to keep it out of the elements. Very secure and it's excellent to have the bikes out of the trailer where we used to have to store them!! VERY glad we purchased it.

by:

Excellent product - did have a little problem installing the bike rack, but with the training video was able to complete the install about 40minutes or less. The bike rack is pretty sold even sat on it, so if it can hold my weight (190) I don't see any problems holding my three bikes.

Thanks for your review and your business, Leroy! The capacity of this bike rack is limited to the capacity of the bumper on your RV or travel trailer. I recommend you check your manual to verify.

by:

Very solid rack. We love how stout it is. It's mounted to the rear of a 28' fifth wheel. I cannot see it while I'm towing but I never worry about it. I replaced the factory rear bumper with heavy gauge thick walled 4" tube steel. I used the quality hardware that came with it. The only down side is tying down the bikes. We have 4 bikes if different sizes. Seems like I spend 15 minutes attaching enough bungee cords and tie downs to make the load road worthy. You can't just crank a ratchet strap because the tires sit in saddles and you can easily overcompress the tire tubs with the force of a ratchet strap. One year later and it's still rock solid.

by:

Although we have not put the bikes on the rack yet, it seems to be a sturdy product, and was not difficult to attach to our camper bumper. THANX

Jayne M.

7/27/2017

It has worked fine for our camping trips, holds all our bikes... THANX

by:

We mounted this bike rack on the back bumper of our 23' travel trailer after having problems with other racks and it has worked flawlessly. Our three bikes remained stationary and secure while we traveled in our RV continuously for 11 months and over 15,000 miles around the whole US.

by:

Product was delivered on time, completely operational as described, fit on
the camper bumper in easy fashion, was exactly the right size and works for carrying bikes and even some other camper items.
Would recommend this for use, making sure you get the right size, and there is no problem with installation even around the spare tire bracket.

by:

We bought the Swagman 4 Bike Carrier RV Mounted Bike Rack and the cam buckle tie down straps. We've used both and are very satisfied with the quality. We normally don't write reviews but were extremely happy with the service we received from etrailer.com. They really made an extra effort to make sure our shipment arrived to us before we went out of town and their customer service is excellent. Thanks for a great experience.

by:

Let me start by saying; This is a very secure product, well made and study. I realize that manufactures try to make their product fit as many campers as possible. On my 5th wheel unit the verticle up-right closest to the camper would not fit, there is not enough room for it and the bike rack to fit under the base of the camper. The position for the rear bumper prohibits this from happening, the front of the bumper tucks under the rear of the camper. To help stablize my bicycles more, I drilled an additional hole in this up-right and mounted it to the opposite side of the rack in the same position of the other verticle up-right, using longer bolts, it works great now. I'm sure this voided my warranty, Oh well.

by:

We have had our bike rake for over a year now and we have been very happy with it. We have used the rack several times. Bikes are easily to put on and the rack has held up well. The 2 vertical post are very helpful for strapping the bike to and making sure the bikes are nice and secure.

The bike rack was also very easy to assemble to my camper. I had no issues.

by:

Easy to mount on the bumper took about 10 minutes. Bikes ride nice on it I just use straps to secure them. Would recommend it you need a 4 bike rack to purchase this one.

by:

It is shiny black. The instructions are great when you pay careful attention. The Youtube video was incomplete. I should do one of my own.

Follow instructions carefully. Have the correct size tools before beginning. Make sure you understand where each bolt is to go. It can be tricky.

Before tightening anything having to do with the bumper, place the brackets on first. The video makes it look so simple. They don't show every step. If you do tighten, they may not fit over the bumper and you will have to loosen them.

Once on, they seem to be quite sturdy and I look forward to securing a few storage bins and my bike. My spare actually fit between the two brackets. I only have one bike for myself and I am glad I got the 4 bike. I can carry light items in bins.

I am giving 4 stars because the end caps....do not fit! No instructions there on how to get them on.

by:

It is perfect for all our makes and sizes of bikes and other accessories for our RV.

Christine N.

9/2/2020

Great! No complaints. We are happy campers :

by:

So far, so good. Assembles well. Watch the video for helpful tips provided by etrailer. Lock washers are flimsy- they squish out rather than staying in place- heavier gauge lock washers needed here. Was actually able to vary the width of the rack by having the racks angle inward- helps to seat the bikes in the grooves better.

Long trip ahead of us- I'll be able to speak more to the overall performance and quality by the end of July.

by:

I carry two Aventon Aventures on this rack, and it’s been awesome.

by:

A winner, especially mnt.bikesWe ahd nowhere to mount the conventional bike racks as we also take our 4 kayaks on the roof top. Whit the different types of bikes the rack could accomodate both mountain bikes and conventional bieks.

  • Trailer Hitch and Hitch Mounted Bike Rack Recommendation for a 2012 Shadow Cruiser
A bumper labeled as Alumi-X would most likely have at least some percentage of aluminum in its construction. The Swagman 4 bike rack, # S80600, is only meant for a welded steel bumper so I cannot say that it will work on an Alumi-X bumper. What I recommend is a trailer hitch and hitch mount bike rack. To add a trailer hitch to your RV, I recommend # 13703. This hitch fits box frames, I-beam frames, and C-Channel frames. It can be welded or bolted on, but any welding should be performed...

As long as there is 3/8 inches of space between the bumper and the body of the trailer, you should be able to install the Swagman RV and Motorhome Bike Rack, # S80600, because that is how wide the bolt is that goes behind the bumper. If you look at the instructions I have linked, at the bottom of page one is a drawing showing how the rack fits together. If you put everything together except bolts G and F, you should be able to fit the rack around the bumper and then install the bolts,...

I suppose you technically could move the nearest upright to make room for the spare tire if needed. But you can also make the 2 parts of the rack far enough apart to accommodate the spare tire. The problem with moving the upright forward is that it can only be positioned as far back as the second one is in the product page pictures so the bike furthest away may not be able to be safely secured to the rack. You would need to put your 2 bikes in the center two bike slots. I have included...

You could probably get 3 bikes on the roof of your 2006 Chevy Silverado 2500 but a 4th will likely not fit due to limited roof rack space. There is another possibility and that is to install a front mount hitch receiver, # 65028, and carry the bikes in the front mount hitch with a hitch mount bike rack such as # TH934XTR. If the bumper on your 2013 Coachman 292BHDS fits those requirements then this bike carrier will work great for you. If not, I attached a link to all of the other bike racks we carry that are confirmed to work on RVs for you to check out also.
