I am guessing this review will not be posted and no one will see it due to it being negative!
In the Fall of 2022 I ordered a hitch and the trailer lighting harness kit for my Jeep Cherokee. The hitch is fine, but about 6 months after installing the wiring harness kit the trailer lights started coming on as soon as the harness is plugged in, which I lived with for a while .. until the right hand turn signal on the trailer also did not work.

I contacted etrailer, which began a several months long series of me being asked by them to do tests and more tests to determine what is wrong with the product they sold me! I hooked up 3 other vehicles to my trailer and everything worked, I hooked my vehicle to 3 other trailers and all of them had the same issues with the lights being on immediately and no right turn signal.
That wasn't good enough to prove the problem with theirs, and they said I had to use a test light and report my findings, which I did. They said that wasn't good enough and I needed to use a meter to check all of the inputs and outputs, to the control box which I did and reported.

And after jumping through all those hoops, Now.... I get this email from them:

"At the time of the email, your wiring harness was still under warranty. It has a one year limited warranty on it. This was purchased on 10/17/2022. You are now 60 days past the one year warranty and I am not able to honor the warranty. You are more than welcome to reach out to the manufacturer to see if they are able to assist you."

And to add insult to injury, during my 9 email exchange about the problem I was having, they sent me a request for a review of the product - but wouldn't help me with the issue I was having!

Well.... Here is my review: Apparently etrailer's definition of "Customer Service" consists of stalling until the warranty runs out, and then telling me to contact someone else and hope they will help me!!

I don't intend to purchase another product from this company, and unless you like being forced to jump through hoops be told multiple times that the problem isn't theirs it's yours, and then have them wash their hands of you and your problem I would advise that you buy from someone else - someone whe actually honors the warranty they provide!
Signed: Unhappy Customer!!

I am so sorry this happened to you. I am disappointed your situation was handled this way. I think there must have been a misunderstanding on our part. I contacted our customer service team to review this and they are sending you a replacement harness. It sounds like the one you had was simply a bad part and was defective, which happens from time to time. Please let us know if the new harness still gives you trouble!

2021 Jeep Grand Cherokee

I ordered the wrong hitch at first but they gave me a shipping label and I mailed it back and they refunded my money and looked up my vin and got me the right hitch and wiring harness and it went on perfectly. Took about 2 hours to install including muffler removal which wasn't as big a deal as it first seemed. Recommend this site to anyone and everyone looking for trailer accessories.

From order to delivery, it was great. Delivered quickly and was just as described. Instructional video was very helpful and informative to get the job done without any issues. Would recommend to anyone looking for a hitch receiver

Fitment was perfect, instructions are nicely wrote and easy to follow. Start to finish, instillation took less than 45 minutes.

Bought for a 2019 Jeep Cherokee Trailhawk. The listing specifies that it fits the Trailhawk - while other listings specifically don't.

Well this did not fit mine. 1 of the 3 mounting holes on each side did not line up. So not sure if it's a design issue, a listing issue, or an issue with my particular vehicle.

It's a nice hitch, comes with all the necessary hardware. Frustrated that it didn't fit correctly. The mounting hole is off by about 1 diameter so not sure if I'd be able to drill a new one

This hitch is a fit for both the Trailhawk and non Trailhawk Jeep Cherokees. I think the side brackets were knocked out of alignment either in shipment to use or to you. It would cause the holes to not line up. I will have our Customer Service team reach out to you. We do have an FAQ that can help.

by:

The hitch was very heavy duty, impressed with how sturdy it was, came with all hardware to install and great instructions as well, have used my trailer hitch already 40 plus times and works great with no rattles. God Bless…..

My trailer hitch is the same a year later as the day I installed, simple to install, strong as an Ox

by:

Watched a few of the Trailer videos to help install. It was a tight fit on either end but we got it in. Follow the videos and install will be easy. Looks great. Using it mainly for a bike rack.

This was a great fitting hitch and installed with no problems- the installation videos really helped save time.

2019 Jeep Cherokee

Installation was exactly as described in the instructions and pretty easy. This is a very sturdy and robust product (as you would expect). I was able to install the hitch by myself although, there were a couple of times where another set of hands would have been super helpful and appreciated. The most difficult part was removing the muffler on my 2019 Jeep Cherokee Latitude. This was of no fault of etrailer or Curt, it's just a difficult task. All-in-all, it was straightforward and I would definitely recommend this hitch.

Ive towed a trailer several times up to approximately 3500 pounds with no issues at all. I also use the hitch to mount bike racks. Everything is always secure and doesnt have any unintended effects on the vehicle. I would still recommend.

by:

Very pleased. This is quality piece of equipment that fit perfectly. Instructions are straightforward and watching all available videos on installation was extremely helpful.
I did the install all by myself using a motorcycle jack and lifted the hitch right into place. Install took me three hours taking my time and doing each step thoroughly.

Excellently no issues. Installed myself.

by:

fit like crap. holes to pull in hardware were located under hitch, had to drill new holes to use this hitch. chrome exhaust bezels hit hitch had to be modifed. back of bumper was hitting hitch. hitch took 3.5 hours to install, wiring took 30 minutes.

by:

Although I had nothing to do with the installation of this product I did choose it. Therefore I will say that it is perfect on my 2020 Cherokee and looks great. My husband and son did the installation and they did say it was much harder than the video showed!! And they are builder/engineer so not someone unfamiliar with installing things! Anyway, great product, I’ve yet to put my bike rack on but my peace sign tow hitch cover looks great and I’m happy to be able to use it again!
Customer service was great, fast shipping but UPS handling was less than commendable.

Jeep Cherokee

This package worked absolutely perfectly with my 2021 Cherokee Trailhawk. My only suggestion is that this setup substantially cuts down on your departure angle. Serious off-roaders beware. Not an issue for the majority of my applications. This is my second purchase from etrailer. Both times it was a painless process. Quality products, a very knowledgeable staff, and quality service and follow up. I couldn't be more satisfied with my experience.

1 year later and I still stand by my above review. Ive used it regularly and have had zero issues with the hitch package. I would absolutely buy again from etrailer.

by:

The hitch fit perfectly. It was a little hard, putting it on by myself, but it can be done.

by:
2019 Jeep Cherokee

Not real happy with it, but, it's installed and I can't return it. On this vehicle, 2019 Jeep Cherokee, it goes under the bumper which is curved inward and as a result it sticks out considerably and is ugly as a result. My brother bought the same car with a factory hitch and it goes through the bumper which is what I wanted and I thought I was getting. Wouldn't recommend it unless you want an eyesore on the back of your Cherokee.

by:
2021 Jeep Cherokee

Sturdy hitch and installation was quick and easy

by:
2019 Jeep Cherokee

I chose this hitch because I wanted the behind bumper look but didn’t want to modify the bumper at all. My Cherokee was brand new so dropping the muffler was simple. The hitch does pinch the facia a little bit and if the bumper ever needed the come off so would the hitch.

by:

Glad I picked this hitch! Installation took a few hours. I wasn't hurrying and had a couple "helpers".
Dropping the exhaust was the hardest part just because it was heavy/bulky and the Jeep has over 50,000 New York miles!

by:

This is the 2nd Curt receiver that I have purchased from e trailer this one was for my 2021 Jeep Cherokee. The receivers are definitely high quality and well built and the fit is perfect. This install was a little more difficult than the last one but not too bad 2 hours but I took my time and didn’t rush

by:

Hitch was easy to put on , watching the video was better than the directions for me. Fit like advertised.
Will be using for a bike rack. Highly recommend!

by:

Great hitch. Fit perfectly!

by:

Fits perfectly

The hitch arrived earlier than expected. I had my mechanic install it and he had no issues. Looks great on the vehicle. Definitely made a good choice with a Curt product.

  • Comparing etrailer and Curt Hitch Receivers for a 2021 Jeep Cherokee
There are three differences in the two receivers. The etrailer Hitch item # e73ZR mounts slightly higher and will offer more ground clearance but the installation is more difficult. The Curt Trailer Hitch Receiver item # C13395 has a higher towing and tongue weight capacity. The Curt has a maximum gross trailer weight of 5,500 lbs and a maximum tongue weight capacity of 675 lbs. Starting with the trailer hitch for your 2021 Jeep Cherokee, I highly recommend the Curt Class III # C13395 because of its hidden-crosstube design and superior black powder coat finish that lasts longer than those from other manufactures. This Class III hitch also offers the highest tongue weight capacity available for your Jeep and is assembled right here in the USA. For your 2021 Jeep Cherokee Latitude edition, I definitely recommend the Curt Trailer Hitch Receiver - 2" # C13395. Not only will the Curt hitch fit your Latitude model, but it also provides you with 675 pounds of maximum tongue weight capacity and 4,500 pounds of towing weight capacity. Also, with the gloss outer coating over the base powder coat, the Curt hitch provides you with more rust and corrosion resistance than competitor options. Though the safety chain loops on the Draw-Tite # DT28MR will be recessed due to where the hitch will sit, they are not inaccessible by any means. This is designed to mimic the look of a factory hitch so it will fit in the area the factory hitch will. We haven't had the chance to install this on a Cherokee Trailhawk as of yet, so I do not have a video showing this, but again, it will work perfectly fine. • Does Hitch Install for 2020 Jeep Cherokee Require Removing Exhaust
Hey Jerred, so the Curt hitch part # C13395 does require lowering the exhaust (not removing it) to be installed which is a very common step with hitch installs to get them above the tail pipes. Basically the exhaust hangers get pried off which allows the exhaust to lower a little bit. You can see more of this in the attached install video.
