Trailer Brake Magnet for 12" Hub/Drum

Today, we're going to take a look at the replacement trailer brake magnet for the Dexter, Alko, and Hayes 12" electric trailer brakes, this part includes everything shown here on the table, the magnet itself, the spring, and the clip to hold the magnet into place. This magnet kit will allow you to replace the worn-out magnet on your 12" trailer brakes, and because you're replacing just the magnet, not the whole assembly, it will save you time and money. This part is designed to work with the following brake assemblies, it'll work with the Dexter 12" x 2" on a 6000 pound axle, the Alko 12" x 2" on the 6000 and 700 pounds axles, the after-1988, and the Hayes 12" x 2" 600 and 7000 pound axles after 1988. If you notice, the magnet is an oval design, and they do that to increase the efficiency of the magnet, and to also extend the life of the magnet. Just to give you an idea of the size on this, the width of it you can see is about 3 1/8", and the height going to be right at about 2". You also notice, when the wires come out of the magnet, they have a section of a protective sleeve over that, and the reason they do that is because, when this is installed in your brake assembly, that initial part of the wire is what goes through the backing plate, so you don't want the wires rubbing up against the backing plate and causing problems, so they put this nice, protective sleeve on here to protect the wires from getting damaged. Also, if you notice, it has the two wires, two black wires coming out of it. It doesn't matter which wire from the magnet is attached to the power or the ground, you just want to make sure that one of the wires is properly grounded, and then the other wire will be attached to your electric brake output circuit from your trailer connector.

Everything I needed to replace the old brake magnets.
I'll give a #4 for now, they were slow getting here and I only have one installed right now ! The real test is when I haul my 40' trailer down the road for a few thousand miles, then I will know how well they work.
My trailer is very old. It is home built and the brake plates were welded on the axles and I had to turn the axles around to get the brake actuators to function in the proper manner. While I was working on it, I realized the magnets needed replacing, but the originals were of a brand I couldn't find. I managed to measure the old parts and found the correct replacement on etrailer.com at less then half the price a local trailer shop wanted for a similar part. The magnets were exactly the right part, they arrived a day sooner then I expected and the brakes are back together and functioning as advertised. Now if it would stop raining I could get the axles back under the trailer and get the brakes wired up again. I'm not complaining about the rain, and certainly am happy about the parts and quick service.

Thanks for checking back with me as I had completely forgotten the trailer brake issues I had last year. The brakes are still functioning fine and we are now using that trailer to haul logs and equipment on a regular basis with absolutely no problems with the brakes. I wish I had reworked them earlier and would recommend the parts I used to anyone with a similar issue.
What I needed and got to me in time ! Easy to install. Also e-trailer has a slug of instructional videos. My brakes were sorely out of adjustment. A couple minutes reviewing the video and a few more adjusting the brakes and I'm a happy camper.

Had one ready to replace this spring - the wire on the old one had gotten caught in the brake mechanism. Glad I ordered the kit.
Works just fine. Takes about the same effort as replacing the whole brake unit. But is cheaper. If caught early enough, you only need the clip inside.
Installation was easy and best of all they work! Many thanks to the Technical Support Team for helping me find the ones that match the trailer and troubleshoot that darn "beeping" noise coming from my truck brake controller.
I thought had an issue with my wiring and after doing a little research I figured out it was more than likely due to worn magnets. I was able to locate the correct type, order, and replace the magnets fixing my problem! I saved money by installing them myself!
