The crossbar-style hidden brackets attach to your vehicle's frame to provide attachment points for your tow bar. The visible portions of the brackets can be removed when you are not towing.

Features:

  • Hidden bracket design - drawbars are easily removable via 2 pins
    • Improved aesthetics compared with standard brackets
  • Computer-cut, all-steel construction provides exceptional strength
  • Black powder coat finish is durable and corrosion resistant
  • Simple installation - no welding required
    • Custom base plates ensure a perfect fit for your vehicle
  • Compatible with Roadmaster tow bars with use of quick-disconnect crossbar (910021-00 - sold separately)
  • Instructions and mounting hardware included
  • Made in the USA
  • Limited Lifetime Warranty

The square drawbars, or front arms, on the crossbar-style base plate kit are simple to mount and remove, easily securing with hitch pins. Once the drawbars have been removed, the remaining brackets are virtually invisible. On most automobiles, the brackets are mounted within the grille, where they remain not only unseen, but protected from scrapes and scuffs as well.

Fast shipping and installation went smoothly with the provided instructions. The only complaint was the shipping box was in very bad shape - I think due to the weight of the base plate. A sturdier shipping box should be used.

by:

This went onto my 13 Edge pretty easily. I had to do a minor bit of grinding to one of the ears to allow it to slip on, but otherwise great fit.
I suggest anyone looking for a base plate for this era Edge, to use the Roadmaster. The simple reason is that the components all come through the lower valance rather than the middle of the bumper like the Blue Ox. Also be sure to support the core support as the directions say, as the plastic sags quickly and it's hard to align.
Also as usual etrailer delivery is quick and well packed.

Roadmaster

The base plate fit perfectly. There were no issues with the installation. We also use the the Roadmaster adapter with our Demco Excali-Bar tow bar for a simple solid setup.

2008 Ford Edge

I chose the Roadmaster baseplate because a friend gave me his old Sterling Roadmaster All Terrain hitch. I had been familiar with Blue Ox and I believe installing that baseplate would have been less labor intensive, but the Roadmaster has more attachment bolts and points, so I feel the Roadmaster is a stronger design. I am almost 74, frugal, on a fixed income, and methodical in such projects, so I did the install. I had no access to a lift which is a huge disadvantage but I was determined to do it myself and save $500. For wiring I Jacked up the car on the driver's side and placed two support jacks in place since that is the side the battery is located on my 2008 Ford Edge. I discovered that by starting with the taillight on the right rear that I could remove the rubber grommet and drill another hole for my 4 wire cable to pass through and down to the luggage compartment of the hatchback and run the wires under the lip of the plastic liner inside across from the spare tire and over to the left taillight. I attached all the wires to the diodes and put the white ground wire in the housing with the supplied self-taping screw. I used the 7 to 6 wiring purchased from e-Trailer. With the car jacked up I was able to run the 4-wire cable down the driver's side and up to the battery where I coiled it until I needed it for the plug later. I also used a separate red wire with a 30 amp fuse to run with the 4-wire cable down to the 6-plug once I had the Ford's fascia removed and the baseplate installed. I mounted the plug to the license plate holder to avoid more cutting out of the fascia plastic grill. The etrailer video for the Edge was essential, but what seems simple on video is not so as special tools are needed at times. I don't have a right-angled drill for tight places but my small ratchet worked. I don't have a Y plastic plug remover but a screwdriver and some side cutters worked. Once all the screws are out of the fascia and you've unplugged the fog lights (not that easy until you see how they lock in place) the fascia could be removed with two people as shown. I discovered that taking the bolts out of the headlights gave me easy access to the top bumper bolts. The baseplate replaces this bumper so you have to store it somewhere or try to sell it. Without a lift, it is definitely a two-person job which my wife was happy to help at those times, and I work well alone and asking a buddy to help for two days is a lot to ask. The video could be a little clearer regarding the support for the upper radiator by showing underneath where the support jack must go because there are several points that the jack could go but I think where I had under the radiator was okay but now I think it needed to go the next point beyond that, which I discovered when I went to put in the side arms of the baseplate that attach top and bottom to the casing for the radiator. The holes only lined up when the casing was lifted. Hopefully, no damage. Getting the fascia back on is definitely a two-man job when working from the floor. All in all it took me from start to finish two days because I was methodical and had to use lots of ingenuity to solve the issues that inevitably arose. But if you are patient and determined it is worth it for one's self-esteem and pocketbook. I will definitely use etrailer again.

Ford Edge

We bought the Roadmaster Sterling Tow Bar to pull a Ford Edge behind our diesel pusher and are very happy with it's performance. When we upgrade the toad we'll stay with etrailer and Roadmaster.

by:

The installation went well looks good. would advise a friend to
buy this product

by:

Roadmaster always has complete install instructions which are easy to follow. There is one thing about this kit that be improved, and that would be the directions for cutting holes in the grill. Their picture leaves a lot to be desired. I have the kit installed, the wireing in place, and cutting the grill and replacing it are all that remains. I am going to make a template out of the box to make me a little less worried cuttting the grill of my wifes new car.

by:

Etrailer once again did not disappoint. Service was fast, fairly priced, totally complete. Video that was emailed to me was extremely helpful in tackling a daunting task that I was totally unfamiliar with and saved me hours of trying to figure out what had to be dismantled to accomplish the job. Again thank you etrailer and Sal who was extremely helpful.

2011 Ford Edge

Bought it last year and installed it shortly after it arrived. Easy enough to install myself ... hardest part was removing the front bumper on my 2011 Ford Edge. Did not use it until last weekend and it worked great. Very happy with the product and service.

Good product, if installing on Lincoln MKX their video shows installing on a Ford Edge. You will need quite a bit more trimming on the MKX grill than what is shown. It will work (eventually) though.

  • Roadmaster Base Plates for a 2011 Ford Edge Sport WITHOUT Adaptive Cruise Control
The Roadmaster EZ base plates # 524426-1 and the XL model, # 4408-1, use different receivers, which is that main crossbar the arms attach to. They are nearly identical but since the EZ model has not been tested or confirmed to fit your 2011 Ford Edge I cannot recommend it. The access to the pins for the XL base plates is different on every vehicle. You may find that they are easier to access on your Edge than on your Accord. I have linked a video showing installation of the XL base plates.
