I have a 2009 MKX will these base plates work for my outfit?

For the 2009 Lincoln MKX, you would need the Roadmaster # 4408-1 base plate kit. The # 4408-5 base plates fit 2011-2013 MKX models. The structure under the vehicle of the 2009 model is different enough from the 2011-2013 models that the parts are not interchangeable.

According to Remco Towing, the 2009 MKX is capable of being flat towed if the speed is kept at 65 mph or lower, and the engine is started as often as possible to prevent the battery from being discharged. I would urge you to confirm this by consulting your owners manual or your Lincoln dealer.

In addition to the base plates, you will also need a tow bar, a lighting solution, safety cables and a supplemental braking system. The Roadmaster Falcon 2, part # RM-520 is one of our best selling tow bars due to its durable construction and auto locking mechanism that will automatically center and lock as you pull away. The Roadmaster 64 inch safety cables, part # RM-645 would be a good choice.

Of the various lighting options available (see link), I would recommend the Roadmaster Bulb and Socket Kit, part # RM-155. A bulb and socket kit is relatively easy to install, and has the advantage of remaining completely independent of the tail light wiring of the MKX. The kit includes wiring that will run to the front of the vehicle, but an umbilical will be needed. If your RV has a 4-pole connector, use part # BX8861. If the RV has a 7-way trailer connector, use part # BX88254.

Most states now require that any vehicle being flat towed be equipped with a supplemental braking system. The Roadmaster Even Brake, part # RM-9400 is a popular choice because it is very easy to install and remove.
