Items Needed to Flat Tow a 2013 Ford Edge Using a Demco Excalibur Tow Bar

Question:

What parts do I need to attach to, and tow, a ford edge 2013 automatic. This car has instructions in the user manual that clears it for this use. I have a demco excalibar 2 that is 4 years old and very easy to use on my former dingy, a jeep compass. thank you for any help

To flat tow your 2013 Ford Edge with your existing Demco Tow Bar you will need a set of vehicle specific base plates and a tow bar adapter.

The correct base plates for your Edge if it is equipped with adaptive cruise control at the Roadmaster EZ Base plate kit # 524426-1. If your Edge does not have the adaptive cruise control then you would use the Roadmaster XL Base Plates # 4408-1.

Once you have the base plates installed on your vehicle then you can use the Roadmaster Tow Bar Adapter # RM-032. I have confirmed with my contacts at Roadmaster that this adapter bar will work with your current Demco Excalibur tow bar. This adapter bar is designed to work with the Roadmaster EZ or XL base plate kits.

According to Roadmaster it is recommended to pull a fuse for towing your Edge and the Fuse Bypass # RM76511 is recommended to be used for flat towing. Your owners manual will indicate which fuse you will need to remove for the installation of the # RM76511 in your Edge.

Roadmaster also indicates that for tow bar wiring there is not enough room in the taillight housing to install a bulb and socket set, and the Roadmaster Universal Diode Kit # RM-154 is recommended for the taillight wiring for your Edge. If you already have external lighting options from your previous towing set up you are welcome to use those for this vehicle too.

If you do not already have the other necessary components to complete a flat towing set up please feel free to let me know and I can make the appropriate recommendations for you.

Items need for a complete flat towing system:
Base Plates
Tow Bar
Safety Cable Set
Tow Bar Wiring
Supplemental Braking System

I have included links to the products recommended above, several videos, and several helpful articles on flat towing.
