Draw-Tite Tested Tough

Draw-Tite Tested Tough

Draw-Tite's Tested Tough program provides testing standards far superior to those outlined by the Society of Automotive Engineers (SAE), the go-to source for engineering professionals.

Each Draw-Tite trailer hitch receiver undergoes extensive fatigue testing and static testing with the ball mount that is either supplied or recommended for use with that particular hitch, thus ensuring results that are applicable to real life use. Fatigue testing is also conducted on hitches rated for use with weight-distribution systems.

In addition, Draw-Tite performs static testing on a simulated automobile, as opposed to the rigid fixture used for SAE testing, resulting in a more true-to-life scenario.

2017 Nissan Rogue

A very easy and straight forward installation procedure, after removing underside splash panels on my Nissan Rogue it took 20 minutes to install and torque the trailer hitch bolts to specification.

The wiring harness took about and hour and a half due to removing trim panels in order to properly route the auxiliary power cable from under the hood to the rear of the vehicle.

All said and done it looks great and performs as advertised.

Packaging is horrible. The steel rack is put into a box with no support. The rack blew out two sides of the box and scraped up the hitch. The left side I think got bent but I was able to manipulate it into place. All in all though good price for what I needed they just need to work on their packaging.

2016 Nissan Rogue

It mostly fits, went on easy and works. I did use a few washers to space it down so it wouldn't push so hard on the sheetmetal in the center. The instructions say to discard a plastic splash guard that will be in the way but I trimmed the plastic with tin snips and put it back on, I think that is better. It bolts into factory provided threaded holes.

Too bad they don't galvanize hitches before they paint them, although it is holding up better than most here in the peak of the rust belt. I would pay more if it was available in stainless steel.

The hitch receiver is working good in my 2017 nissan rogue even that I didn’t buy the correct one, I didn’t now there was a small 1/4 hitch receiver but I bought a 1/4 to 2” adapter and is working fine, I use it for my Kuat NV 2.0 with to mountain bikes and is doing the job great. Thank you for having great products.

by:
2017 Nissan Rogue

Mounting holes on Hitch did not match the holes on the frame of my 2017 Rogue. I loosened, wiggled, pulled, tugged, stretched and leaned on the hitch and this was as close as I could get. See attached photo.

I will have to have my mechanic bend the hitch mounting plate so that we can secure the other two mounting bolts on the driver's side. That will likely cost more than the price I paid for the hitch.

Hitch was well painted, heavy and seemed to otherwise be a quality product.

2016 Nissan Rogue

Fits perfect and was shipped fast. Looks nice on my 2016 rouge you barley can tell it's there. I went to YouTube and watched the install video before I put it on and I had no issues. I'm gonna be pulling a 6x8 trailer with it for my kayak. I also bought and installed the plug and play wiring kit. The wiring was not that hard after I watched the YouTube video.

by:

Good trailer hitch but I should’ve gone with the 2 inch other 1 1/4. Had to get 11/4 to 2 inch adapter.

Mike D.

3/14/2023

It’s working well but I should’ve gotten the bigger size but other than that works fine.

by:

I was having a tough week so I was looking for an easy project. Decided to install the trailer hitch. It went on great! Thank you for quick delivery of a quality product at a fair price. Any one want to join me in a bike ride?

ps the video was helpful, especially the part about cleaning rust from the driver side threads.

by:

The hitch was an easy install and works with our bike rack. I received the hitch quickly and customer service was excellent. I mistakenly ordered the wrong part and they caught my error before shipping, called me and we got the right part. I'm impressed.

by:

Here is a picture of the hitch receiver and the electrical plug. My installer decided to keep the plug near the hitch and not in the car when not in use.

by:

Less than two hours start to finish, it does accept bike rack, third purchase quick delivery and install videos are best example of outstanding customer service.

by:

All is well. The delivery came very quickly - free 2 day shipment! What more could we ask for?

The box was a little banged up, but the hitch looks ok.

2017 Nissan Rogue

Only complaint on the passenger side of the vehicle (2017 Rogue S) there are only 2 existing threaded holes in the frame not three like in the vid. Also 5 bolts sent, one left over. Here's a pic, the bottom of the pic is the rear of the vehicle passenger side.

2012 Nissan Rogue

Let me start by saying if I ever needed another hitch, I would order it from Etrailer.com. The process is easy, there's plenty of online support videos to aid in installation on their own site Including a wiring video.
Here's a couple of problems I had installing a DrawTite 1 1/4 hitch to my 2012 Nissan Rogue...
The hitch holes (5) only lined up exactly with 4 of the mounting holes. The most inboard hole on the drivers side was off by about 1/4 inch with all the other bolts installed. That required the hitch to be forcefully pulled to the rear in order to have a second set of hands install the bolt, which was not easy.
The other issue regards installing the 3 new bolts into the driver side of the frame which were formerly unused threaded weld holes. Even after cleaning and lubricating the holes multiple times, flushing the rust out with WD-40, and even cleaning the holes with a battery terminal brush, those bolts were a bear to drive in without an impact gun. I had to carefully and partially screw in each bolt into the weld nuts and gradually tighten them up using an extension bar and quite a bit of force, backing them out multiple times. It almost felt like I was driving in the wrong thread size, but there was no damage to the threads at all on inspection.
The hitch is in, but the amount of effort was totally unexpected and nothing like other hitches I have installed (even those with dirty weld holes.)
One other minor issue, the shipping carton had a hole in it where the receiver rested against the box. There was no support for it to prevent wear against the carton.

Still holding up, very little rust.

Excellent fit and easy install. Went exactly how the video showed. It literally takes 15min to install

by:

I had to bend the hitch receiver to get it to fit.
The were numerous spots that the paint was chipped. Had to paint bad spots.
Contacted etrailer regarding issues.

When the hitches are shipped to us they are shipped stacked together in large pallets which means that at times they arrive in less than pristine condition. You have already done what I recommend by touching up the affected areas with a rust resistant paint such as Rustoleum.

2015 Pontiac Trans Sport Van

A past purchase from etrailer.com provided me with confidence in making another purchase. The on-line help videos were excellent. I ran into a slight problem during installation due to the sheet-metal plate behind the rear bumper cover on my 2015 Nissan Rouge. At first I thought I was a problem with this product. I was able to push the metal bumper plate outboard a bit therefore allowing the hitch to seat properly. Installation was a breeze. I was also able to re-install the rear passenger appearance panel and make a slight modification to the driver side panel that was required to be removed for installation. This product looks great, I can’t wait to attach my bike carrier!.

My only negative would be that etrailer.com should add some reinforcement (tape & heavy cardboard) to the ends of the hitch brackets to keep from ripping through the box. I just applied spray paint to any areas of the hitch that the paint rubbed off during transport.

The is a wonderful trailer hitch for our Rogue. Very nice quality and finish. Plus the hardware is included. Installation was pretty straight forward and for a DIY'er, I was able to do it in about 75 minutes. I didn't need to remove the exhaust like the video shows as I could maneuver the hitch in place and then, with an extra set of hands, secure a couple bolts before tightening all the way.

Still working well. The second one we bought was for our Nissan and the original one I bought was for a VW. Both are still in great shape, especially with MN road conditions and the weather.

2015 Nissan Rogue

Received the trailer hitch and installed it on a 2015 Nissan Rogue. The hitch fits perfectly and it only took me about 45 minutes for the installation. It's a great addition to the vehicle.

The only concern is that the box was torn in several places from shipping via UPS.

by:
2017 Nissan Rogue

The video was very helpful in guiding me through the installation. The only problem I encountered was that the bolt pattern on the hitch did not perfectly align with the threaded holes in the frame of my 2017 Nissan Rogue. I was able to secure each of the two bolts on the passenger side, but only 2 of 3 bolts on the drivers side. Redrilling the last hole was not an option because the alignment was too far off. I do not believe the poor alignment for the last hole was a manufacturing defect, as others have not experienced this problem. I believe the issue may have been caused by a minor collision with the vehicle’s previous owner. I went forward with the installation despite my inability to fasten the final bolt because I only plan to haul a bike rack and I believe the 4 securely fastened bolts will be adequate. If I planned to haul something heavier such as a boat, I would not have proceeded with the installation. Overall I am happy that I was able to finish the job because I was impressed with the quality of the product. Even though the video advises that restoring the plastic panels (previously removed to create space for the installation) was not necessary, I decided to return them to place because they protect the undercarriage from road debris. Some of the fasteners were too damaged to be reused; I secured them with zip ties. I used tin shears to trim some plastic off the drivers side panel to make it fit around the hitch better. Very pleased with the finished product.

You mentioned that not all the holes were lining with the frame of the Nissan. I believe that the side brackets were knocked out of alignment which is why the bolt holes are not lining up. This can happen while in transit to our facility or to you. We do have a great FAQ that provides ways to move the brackets back into alignment so the hitch can be installed.

I use the trailer hitch to tow my 16 boat around the northwest to fish for salmon and other fish. The dealer wanted almost $600 to install a hitch and lights. I did it for about $200. the products are well made and meet all industry standards, the instructions were easy enough to follow. I would buy these again. the only regret is that I bought the small size receiver on the hitch. I strongly recommend others to buy the 2 receiver as it will all the accessories that the small one will not..

by:

Hitch installed EXACTLY like shown. I was able to get it installed without jacking the car up or removing the muffler and by myself. Placed hitch on passenger side up close and on a jack stand and then raised up the drivers side and started a 2 of the bolts. Moved to the passenger side - installed all bolts loosely and then snugged them up as directed. Hitch looks great!

The Draw-Tite Trailer Hitch Receiver - Custom Fit - Class II - 1-1/4" # 36542 can be installed without a lift using some basic car ramps or jack stands. It will be a little more confining but it can and has been done. If you don't want to do the work yourself, you can have any local mechanic you trust do the install for you. Although we haven't installed the Draw-Tite # 36542 Class II hitch on a 2016 Rogue, we have installed one on a 2015 model, where we found the hitch pin hole to rear of bumper distance was 5-1/2 inches. Since the 2015 and 2016 are of the same generation, and the rear of the vehicle hasn't been modified from the 2015 model year, it would be very safe to say that measurement didn't change for the 2016 model year.
