Bias Tires vs. Radial Tires

Bias vs. radial tire graphic

Bias ply tires are designed for off-road or agricultural applications. They are built with thick, durable nylon cords that are positioned at a 30- to 45-degree angle to the direction of travel. The layers alternate in a crisscross pattern, making the sidewalls stiffer so that the entire tire is able to flex easily. As a result, the tire provides a smooth ride and improved handling when trailering on uneven surfaces.

You did a great job following my order even though it was back ordered at time I placed the order.

by:

These were perfect replacements for my old trailer tires. Shipping was fast, got them a day earlier than expected. Joshua was very helpful with information about making sure I got the right tire for my needs.
Thanks!

Do not say KENDRA anywhere on them, Brand LOADSTAR?

Etrailer Expert

Heather A.

I contacted Americana which manufactures the Kenda Loadstar brand. The bias trailer tires will say Loadstar or a code number with a K in front of it for Kenda.

Their excellent customer service and super fast shipping just landed another loyal customer. I'll be using etrailer for all of my trailer equipment needs. Thanks guys!

by:

Exactly the way I like things to go , fast shipping, the right tires just like I ordered and no B-S . Super easy to do business with , using them on the back of my 51 Crosley pickup, thank you. r. North Canton, Ohio

by:

Husband is very happy. He wasn't sure about getting tires delivered to the house but for once he was glad he just shut up and let me handle it. Love it when I'm right. Will definitely use y'all again

by:

Good selection of products and outstanding service.

by:

This tire is rated for 80 mph because it is 4 ply.

etrailer shipping and price were GREAT!

The
issue I have is with the tire itself. The date code is nearly 2 years old and they arrive looking like it. Smashed into a pancake that took a lot of time with my straps, tire changer and warming up in the sun to mount and seat. Fortunately I have a motorcycle tire changer and am experienced with tires to get them mounted and seated.

No wonder all the local places only sell the tire mounted on the wheel!

by:

Great service and thank you for everyth ing

by:

Seemed like they worked well. I have not kept track of the amount of miles I have put on them but they seem to be holding up well.

by:

I put these on my boat trailer and they have been great. I’ve put a lot of miles on so far and they seem to be holding up with no issues. I will order these again in the future if I need more tires.

by:

Outstanding…..1984 American Skier + trailer completely restored. Thank you!

by:

I purchased these to replace the tires on my boat trailer. They fit the rim but seemed slightly smaller than the tires I took off. The only other thing I noticed is that the tires were made a few months apart and had slightly different lettering. The font or design was different between the two. Since I only had one on each side, it didn’t really matter. Nobody will ever notice it. The tire was as described and should fit the need perfectly. I have already pulled it a few times but nothing heavy, just a couple hundred pounds max including the trailer.

by:

This is the first time I have ordered trailer tires from Etrailer and I did not know what to expect with regard to service and product quality. The last pair of tires I had on my pontoon boat trailer were 185/80R13 Marathon tires but according to the specifications, the Etrailer 185/80R13 tires had a better load rating and higher safe speed rating than my old Marathon tires. My Etraier tires also have a 2/2018 date of manufacturing which was also a plus.

by:

These tires last and pull great on my trailer. Mount up nice and easy.

  • How To Determine What Bearings Are Needed On Travel Trailer
When replacing bearings on a trailer, you will need to know what size bearings will fit the spindle on your trailer axle. The best way is to remove the old bearings and check for the numbers on the bearing. That way you get an exact match. If you are unable to find the numbers on the bearing, you will need to measure the spindle surface as shown in the attached drawing to make sure you get the right size. Because the load range can vary on tires that are 5.30-12 it would be difficult to...

  • Replacement Trailer Tires for 155/80R12
I do recommend the 5.30x12 as it is by far the closest to your current 155/80R12. I put the sizes below for you to compare. 155/80R12 -Width- 6.1" -Height- 21.8" 5.30x12 -Width- 5.5" -Height- 21.9" I would recommend using bias ply for your driving as radial tires are more at home on the highways. For the load rating I would stick with the same rating that the trailer manufacturer recommended. This information can be found on the Data Tag on the front drivers side of the trailer. If...

  • ST Tire Pressure for Kenda Brand Trailer Tires
Yes. Kenda recommends running their tires at the max psi when inflated cold no matter the weight on the trailer. The good news is a tire with load range B is going to be softer than a higher ply/load rated tire. Goodyear is the only manufacturer we carry that gives a sliding PSI rating based on the weight actually on the tires at any given time. Not inflating to the required PSI can cause tires to overheat and wear too quickly or even blowout. For example the # AM10060 should be...

  • What Causes Uneven Trailer Tire Tread Wear with New 5.30-12 Tires
All trailer tires must always be inflated to the specified maximum cold psi pressure as noted on the tire sidewall. Tires should never be under- or over-inflated at any time as this can lead to heat build up, uneven tread wear, loss of weight capacity or a blowout. A trailer tire cannot meets its load rating unless it is inflated to the cold tire pressure noted on the sidewall. Usually an under-inflated tire will wear more on the outside edges of the tread surface; an over-inflated tire...

The Load Range B tires, # AM10064, come with a maximum load rating of 840 pounds at 55 psi, Load Range C, # AM10066, with a maximum load rating of 1,045 pounds at 80 psi, and the Load Range D, # AM10068, a maximum load rating of 1,250 pounds at 105 psi. • What is the Speed Rating for Kenda Karrier S-Trail ST145/R12 Radial Trailer Tire
The trailer tires we carry are rated for 65 miles per hour at most. Traveling 80 miles an hour will produce too much heat for a trailer tire. The problem is that trailer tires are made with a thicker side wall than passenger vehicle tires. This means that they can get hotter faster and going over the rated speed will lead to excessive heat build up. Excessive heat build-up in a tire can lead to diminished tread life and tire failure. Radial tires dissipate heat better but are still rated...

Hi Tony, The pilot hole (large center hole) on the tire/wheel combos we carry with the 5.30-12 tire size can either be 2.84 inches or the smaller and less common, 2.52 inches. There is only one 4-lug wheel configuration, that being the 4 on 4 bolt pattern you mentioned. Based on the photos you sent, I recommend the Kenda 5.30-12 Bias Trailer Tire with 12" Galvanized Wheel # AM30710. The load range tire used is going to depend on the gross trailer weight capacity, which should be on a sticker or plate near the front of the trailer frame or in the trailer's literature. • Recommended PSI for Size 5.30-12 Tires
The psi should be listed on the sidewall of the tire. It is recommended that tires always be inflated to the max psi. The max psi of the tire will depend on the tire's load range, not the weight of the trailer. For instance, we carry 5.30-12 tires in load ranges B, C, and D. The maximum psi is 55 for one of our load range B tires, 80 for a load range C, and 105 for a load range D. However, different tire manufacturers may have different psi ratings even for the same tire size and load...

  • Replacing a 145-12 Trailer Tire with a 5.30-12 Trailer Tire
A 5.30-12 trailer tire and a 145-12 trailer tire are both very similar. A 5.30-12 tire measures 21.9" diameter x 5.6" wide whereas a 145-12 tire measures 21.3" diameter x 5.7" wide. This means that the new 5.30-12 tire will be .3" taller and .05" narrower than a 145-12 tire. I am almost certain you will have enough room for this but you may want to take a few measurements just to be sure. Therefore, the new tire will be 3.6" taller x .5" narrower than the one you have now. You only need to account for half of each measurement for clearance. If you go to the 5.30 x 12 tire size, the overall diameter is 21.9 inches tall and 5.6 inches wide. The first number (4.80 or 5.30) on the tire size designates the width range of your tire in inches. You will want to make sure you will have enough clearance on your camper for the 5.8 inch taller and 1 inch wider tire. I do not list a 5.40 x 12 tire size available. The 4.80 x 8 tire size is...
