Rugged, Matte Black Finish

The sturdy steel construction is protected with a matte black finish for added durability. This unique powder coating gives etrailer hitches a carbide-like appearance and a rugged look that sets them apart from traditional glossy hitches. In addition to being rust and corrosion resistant, the tough matte coating hides dirt, scuffs, and dings better than a glossy finish.

For all of you driveway mechanics, remove the muffler, it will make the install much easier. Also make sure you remove the clips on the rear bumper, you will have to pry it out of the way to slide the hitch up and inside. The fit is excellent, love the flush look of this hitch. It took me a few hours to get it done, if I did it again knowing what I know now it would take about an hour.

Works great! Use it all the time. Short day trips and long road trips. Highly recommended.

Great service and install instructions were spot on. Installed in under 30 min. Hardest part is getting the exhaust rubber mounts loose....perfect fit and looks great..

Still working great!!, No problems and have used it many times through the year..

2021 Mazda CX-5

When installing the hitch on my 2021 Mazda CX-5, I found it easiest to remove the rear muffler assembly. Even when the muffler was lowered per the installation instructions it was impossible to fit it into place.

Removing the lightweight muffler assembly is easy (remove two 14mm-9/16" nuts and the four rubber hanging mounts). This gives you lots of space for hitch installation and tightening the four mounting bolts (the front two thread into nuts already mounted inside the frame rail).

I just installed this hitch so it's too soon to describe my experience with it. However it appears well built, has a good finish, included all necessary hardware, and etrailer.com provided fast delivery.

It works so well I don’t even have to think about it. The finish seems to be holding up well, too.

by:

I had this installed by a third party. Took them 20 minutes! Overall, I am pleased with the etrailer service and hitch. It fits perfectly under my 2022 Mazda CX-5. I only intend to lug around a bike rack so it should be more than enough for that purpose.

I have been using this hitch for over a year and it continues to work flawlessly. The hitch is installed on a Mazda CX-5 and is primarily used for my bike rack. I have not attempted to pull a trailer or any heavy loads. It certainly meets my expectations and was the perfect solution for my situation…plus it was cheaper and more available than the Mazda version.

by:

With the help of the etrailer video I installed the hitch on my 2018 Mazda CX-5 by myself, in my garage without any special equipment. I was extremely happy with the product, service and outcome. What made all the difference in my choice was how the main bar of the hitch is tucked up under the rear valence and all you see is the receiver, and that doesn't protrude too far. I use the hitch for a bike rack, but am considering trying my hand at the light kit, so I could also use a small utility trailer at times.

Fantastic. Super strong and totally durable. Great price as well!

2019 Mazda CX-5

This is my first ever trailer hitch for my midsize SUV. I wanted it for attaching my bike rack for biking trips. I found etrailer through an online search. The website was easy to navigate and very informative. I watched videos about the installation process and read other reviews prior to making my purchase. The communication with etrailer was excellent. They kept me informed throughout the order, shipment and delivery process. The trailer hitch arrived quickly and was well packed. A friend installed the hitch very easily. It’s very durable and looks great on my car as it does not take away from the car’s appearance nor does it look odd or out of place. It works well with my bike rack and I have not had any issues. etrailer was great about following up to ensure I was satisfied with my purchase, which I am. I highly recommend the company and this particular trailer hitch.

It’s been a year since I purchased, and had installed, my trailer hitch from etrailer. It’s still looking good and working great. I’ve even added a Seattle Seahawks decorative cover to it for when it’s not in use. It looks great on my car and i continue to be pleased with my purchase from etrailer.

by:

Easy install this hitch on my '22 CX-5, under one hour. OK, i didn't do it but a local installer working without a car lift. He just had a conveniently sized block of wood to support the exhaust and a jack to take the hitch weight, otherwise it was pretty much the same as the etrailer video, and I watched him all the time. As we know, the rubber exhaust bushings need to go back on the vehicle hangers before the hitch. I liked that the kit came with nicely made fish wires, so installing the two in-frame bolts appeared to be easy.

Great reinforced steel hitch and perfect for my 2016 Mazda CX-5. Installation was easy, would recommend pre-setting the washers with tape on the inside. Made it much easier! Love that it came with all the nuts and bolts too.

this product is super sturdy and well made. instruction video was good. it was a bit harder than anticipated to get it to clear my bumper, but installed fine in about 1 hr DIY. i was missing one conical washer and had one extra bolt in parts bag, hence 1-star demotion.

Mazda Tribute

I took it to a garage to have it installed; it fit perfectly! I got a discount on the labor, as it took the mechanic only about 1/2 hour to install, which is a tribute to how well it was designed for my specific vehicle (2023 Mazda CX-5). All the hardware was included; all the holes lined up. Excellent!

by:

Performed spectacularly on a 1,500 mile tow! Assembly took myself and another non-professional 1-2 hours. The videos are FANTASTIC and helped save me $300. We were able to assemble using ramps with 8” of clearance. That was sufficient. I would not recommend much less than that.

Two addition tips:
1) Use silicone spray. I watched the video ahead of time and saw the mechanic use silicone spray. Get some. Use it. It will make this process SO much easier.
2) The video suggested to use a pry bar separate the exhaust system from the holding bars. I tried that with no luck. Instead, I pushed the exhaust up slightly to relieve stress on the black silicone holder and then pushed out. The rubber holder came off very easy.

I 100% recommend this product and etrailer.

by:

Great quality! Took a little more than an hour to complete on my 2024 CX5! The instructional video provided was super helpful and I recommend watching it. You don’t need a lot of lubrication for the muffler. I just used garage door spray lube and the boots came right off with minimum effort.
A little advice for folks doing the install in the driveway: use a good set of risers and a floor Jack to hold the receiver of the trailer hitch as you are working to get the bolts in. It really helped take the weight off and stabilize the unit as we were trying to get the bolts in.

by:

Had my neighborhood automobile service station install the hitch and I've had no problems with it.

The product arrived ahead of time.

It

The dealer wanted to charge $[XX] dollar for the hitch + $[XX] to install it.

It was installed within an hour and I saved $[XX]

They are having a problem putting it on the car. They are having to remove the muffler and the bolts keep coming out before they can be fitted. Not having a easy time with this. Also instructions are not matching car.

I hate to hear that the hitch was not an easy install. I wanted to ask if you could tell me how the manual did not match the install? I also included a video install below on a 2014 Mazda CX-5 for reference.

2023 Mazda CX-5

What is delivered quickly and shipped in cardboard box that held everything well. I watched video of installation and have installed mine. It took me an hour and a half but I had to take breaks. Thanks for a great product. That was the hitch I will take a picture.

by:

This receiver is only used for a ski rack and it has functioned well as such. The installation was a little more involved than other receivers I've installed but this was due to the vehicle is a compact SUV. After getting one side done the other was much faster and I learned some techniques for future work. My recollection was that the video or pics were a great help.

by:

Happy with this purchase, went on easy and great for my bike and cargo hitch carriers and small trailers

by:

I installed it by myself and two jack stands. It was easy and job completed in 45 mins. I didn’t even raise the cx-5. I laid on the driveway, dropped the exhaust like instructed and 45 mins later …completed.-

Easy install, Install directions were accurate, Happy with the hitch in every aspect.

  • Could Swagman Chinook Fold Down and Allow Rear Door of 2019 Mazda CX-5 to Open
Yes, based on our experiences with very similar vehicles with the Swagman Chinook 2 Bike Platform Rack # S64683 that you referenced your rear door would easily be able to open with the rack tilted down. I attached a picture that shows the rear hatch of a very similar vehicle opening with the rack tilted down and you can see there's plenty of clearance. If you need a trailer hitch installed as well the # e98902 provides very similar clearances to the hitch in the picture I attached. I...

Absolutely! The difference between the mounting points on the Draw-Tite # 76138 and the Curt # C13315 and etrailer # e98902 hitches is simply that's just how the manufacturers decided to design the brackets. They all fit the different variants in models (aside from Diesel which you'd need part # SH47GR), and so it really just boils down to those are the places where the companies decided to attached their trailer hitch to. • Do You Recommend Using the Kuat Transfer # KU64FR with My E-Bike with Fenders on My 2016 Mazda CX-5?
Here at etrailer, we do not recommend using a wheel-mount bike rack like the Kuat Transfer V2 Bike Rack for 1 Bike - 1-1/4" and 2" Hitches # KU64FR for bikes with fenders. The reason why is because no matter where the hooks are attached, there is always the possibility that the hook can shift on the wheel and crack or damage the fenders. The racheting hook will not be able to attach to the front fork. With that being said, we do not carry any single-bike options that attach via frame....
