Bumper Clearance For etrailer Receiver On a 2021 Mazda CX-5 with 1UP Folding Bike Rack

Question:

1. Your etrailer 98902 is the exact same hitch as the Curt 13315 except it is matt black powder coat? They look exactly the same. 2. I am buying this hitch to mount a bike rack made by company called 1UP Attached is photo of their rack in the folded up storage position. Your installation video shows the etrailer hitch when mounted is 3 inches recessed from the outer edge of CX 5 bumper. From the 1UP diagram attached, it looks like the rack must be ed to 4 inch minimum, leaving 3.5 inches clearance from edge of the hitch to the rack in folded up position. Its a tight fit do you think it will work without rubbing on my CX 5?? Thanks for all the help you guys are great!

The etrailer Trailer Hitch Receiver # e98902 and Curt Trailer Hitch Receiver # C13315 are nearly identical with the exception being the matte powder coating on our hitch as opposed to the gloss powder coating used on the Curt. I prefer the matte as it blends in better with the undercoating and fascia on your 2021 Mazda CX-5.

I do not see you having any issues with the fit of the 1UP bike rack with our receiver. When we measured the 3" bumper distance we went from the edge of the bumper to the center of the hitch pin hole. Your 1UP rack is measuring 3.5" from the end of the receiver tube to the nearest portion of the rack. Since the distance from the end of the receiver to the center of the pin hole is approximately 2" you should have plenty of clearance.

I recommend also installing the Tekonsha T-One Vehicle Wiring Harness # 118746 so that you can add Auxiliary Lights # C53201 to your bike rack so that the vehicles behind you will be able to see the lights, since your tail lights will likely by harder to see when you are carrying your bike.
