Video Transcript for Review of Draw-Tite Trailer Hitch Ball - Trailer Hitch Ball - 63836

Hello everybody, this is Jeff at etrailer.com. Today, we're gonna take a look at this Draw-Tite 2 5/16 diameter chrome hitch ball, has a 14,000 pound weight capacity. Now, this hitch ball provides a connection point for your trailer's coupler. They do use the fine threads on this to provide an exceptionally tight, strong grip, and it is a durable steel construction. You can see it has a nice corrosion resistant chrome finish to it, and also, if you noticed, the flat sides here, these are built-in wrench flats that make it very easy to hold the ball in place while you're torquing the nut down. Does include the lock washer and the nut, it's all included.

Basically, when you go to install this, you'll put on your lock washer, put on your nut, and then torque it down to the correct specs. Again, the ball diameter is 2 5/16 inches, which is stamped on the top. The weight capacity is 14,000 pounds, which again is stamped on the top. Give you a few dimensions on this, we're gonna measure the shank. Now, this is designed to fit ball mount platforms that are 3/4 of an inch to 1 1/4 inch thick.

So the shank length is gonna be right at 2 3/4 quarter inches long, and the shank diameter is right at 1 1/4 inches. But that should do it for the review on this Draw-Tite 2 5/16 inch chrome hitch ball with the 14,000 pound capacity..

Very helpful! Immediately notified me that the ball I had ordered was out of stock. E-trailer suggested an alternative, and expedited the order to me after I accepted.

by:

Great product, excellent service from etrailer! Thank you guys!

by:

It's a hitch ball and does the job. Nothing glamorous to report. Retired the previous hitch ball due to its age (25 years).

Its doing fine, expect many years of service

by:

The hitch ball is exactly what I was looking for. It has the wrench flats I wanted to be able to keep the ball from rotating while tightening or loosening the ball. It also has a gross tow rating of 14,000 lbs which was on the higher end of hitch balls with wrench flats. As usual, etrailer was easy to deal with.

by:

It's a hitch ball. Simple. But you do need a 1 7/8" socket to install it. And the ability to torque it to 450ft lbs.

by:

I just received my ball mount receiver and ball. Great looking product. I'm excited to see how the cushion works. Torqueing the ball to 450ft lbs. was fun!!!

by:

Completely Satisfied!!! Thank You!!!

by:

My order of hitch ball, ball mount and pin was delivered on time.

by:

Well made, works like it should

by:

I purchased this ball for my 10k lb trailer project. Although I haven't been able to use this ball yet, the quality looks to be very nice.

by:

Very substantial ball, washer, and bolt. I wish it came with more detailed installation instruction as I wasn't quite sure where the washer needed to go.

by:

Very solid and fit perfectly in the hitch that I had. Haven't used it to pull the trailer, yet, but will be doing that within the next week or so. I think it will be just perfect.
Thank you for a great site with "how-to's" and for your easy ordering, conscientious follow-up, and quick processing.

by:

Good fit. You'll need 2 - 2" wrenches and a big 3ft pipe to crank to 600 ft lbs. Best done when draw bar and head are mounted on vehicle.

by:

Hitch ball...does what its suppose to.

by:

fast service! good products !!! would buy from etrailer again.

by:

Great ball!!!

working great....

by:

Appears well built and "feels like an A." (Back to School)
Says it's good for 14,000 lbs.
I'm pulling 12,000 lbs.
I hope I don't have to retract my 5 star rating - ever.

by:

Wonderful product! Most importantly their customer service was beyond exceptional. I ordered incompatible items and instead of just shipping them they reached out to better understand my need, and get me the right items. Every person I worked with was phenomenal! Huge shout out to Tyra F she saved my life with this move!

by:

Just as shown, good quality, fits well. Not: Requires a 2" wrench or socket and the ability to tighten to 425 ft lbs.

by:

So far so good!
No Problems

by:

Worked great. Built well

by:

nice ball, works well, needed to have a pro tighten it to the recommended foot lbs of torque(450#). most of us do not own tools this big....that cost me $5.00

by:

we received exceptional & professional service on this (our first) order

by:

this is a great product ! you always have what i need. i will be shopping with you again. thanks

by:

Im sure it will work fine. havent used it yet.

  • Reese Weight Distribution System Recommended for 1500-lbs of Tongue Weight
Replacement head assembly # RP58167 is for trunnion bars like # RP58369 so it will not work for round bars. Instead use part # RP58112. You can use your old shank since it will have the same design. Since your system is older and you need to upgrade it too I suggest you replace the entire set-up. That way you have no concerns about old and new parts fitting properly and you'll have the comfort of knowing that everything is new and in good shape. For a loaded trailer tongue weight in the...

The Curt Weight Distribution Shank is offered is 2-1/2", part # C17132 for an 9-1/4" drop or part # C17131 for 2" drop. In regards to the hitch ball, the 2-5/16" Hitch Ball part # 63836 is rated for 14K and has a 1-1/4" shank which most weight distribution systems use.

  • What Size Locking Hitch Pin Does Flash Solid Aluminum Ball Mount DTBM5200 Use
The hitch pin hole of the ball mount is the standard 5/8" and the ball mount fits a 2" hitch receiver so any 2" hitch receiver lock or pin with clip will work with the Flash Solid Ball Mount part # DTBM5200. The etrailer.com Trailer Hitch Receiver Lock part # e98882 will work well because it is stainless steel to resist corrosion. The # DTBM5200 ball mount that you referenced has a ball hole shank diameter of 1-1/4", so you can use part # A-90 for a 2" ball or part # 63836 for a 2-5/16"...

  • Weight Distribution for a Micro Minnie 2108DS Travel Trailer
I took a look at several pictures of the 2108DS Micro Minnie trailers and they have a regular coupler and not a bottom-mount or underslung style coupler. Your particular model has a 7,000 pound gross trailer weight and dry it weighs 3,900 pounds. The dry tongue weight is 410 pounds meaning it is 10.5 percent of the gross trailer weight. Going by that same 10.5 percent the tongue weight can be as much as 735 pounds. The goal is to use a weight distribution system that puts the tongue weight...

  • Replacement Head for Reese Trunnion Style Weight Distribution System
I spoke with my contact at Reese and he confirmed that the replacement head for your Reese weight distribution system is part # RP58167. If you need a replacement shank you will want part # RP54970. This shank has a 2" drop to 6-1/2" rise and a 1,500 lbs. tongue weight. I have attached the installation details for the replacement head for you to check out. If you need a hitch ball with a 2-5/16" diameter I recommend part # 63836. • Weight Distribution System for 2008 Ford F-250 Towing 12,000 lb
Hitch reducers like the Curt sleeve part # C45405 that you referenced do not reduce the weight capacity of the hitch they are installed in. The only type of hitch size adapter that does reduce capacity are ones that go from a smaller size to a bigger size. You're going to be pretty close to the capacity of your truck so a weight distribution system would be a very good idea. For a weight distribution system rated well for 1,500 lbs of tongue weight the Reese part # RP66075. This has a...

The Titan Ball Mount you referenced, part # 45123 can certainly be used in the rise position. The ball mount has a 3-1/2 inch rise, and has the same 12000 lb towing/ 1200 lb tongue weight capacity when used in the rise position. This ball mount requires a trailer ball with a 1-1/4 inch diameter shank like the # A-90 2 inch ball or the # 63836 2-5/16 inch ball. This ball mount is not compatible with the Ford Super Duty OEM 2-1/2 inch receiver.

  • Recommended Weight Distribution System for a 2006 Four Winds Trailer with 1,000 Pound Tongue Weight
When choosing a weight distribution system, it is better to err on the side of safety. In this case, it means a higher capacity system. You never want a system with a capacity under what your tongue weight is. So in this case, I would not use a 1,000 pound system as it is not strong enough. I recommend going with a system that is rated 800 to 1,500 pounds. Your dry tongue weight will be right in the middle of this capacity range and it will allow for several hundred more pounds once your...

  • Availability of an Adapter to Use the Titan Hitch Extender # RP45292 with a 2 Inch Hitch
I cannot recommend either of the situations that you mentioned for safety reasons. If you were to make a reducer for the Titan Hitch Box Extension for 2-1/2 inch Trailer Hitches, 24-34 inches, item # RP45292, it would lower the weight carrying capacity of the hitch and the extension and could cause an unsafe towing condition. • Weight Distribution System Recommendation for Trailer with 1,500 lbs Tongue Weight
For a weight distribution system for a tongue weight that is 1,500 lbs when loaded and sometimes 900 lbs you would want the Reese part # RP66131 but you would have to verify that your tongue weight would not exceed 1,500 lbs when loaded. Basically you would be at the edges of this systems range that is 800 to 1,500 lbs. For a shank you would then want the part # RP54970. For either tongue weight you would have to basically set the system up totally different. Easiest way to go between...

On your trailer with a 9,100 lbs. gross weight capacity, the tongue weight would be 10 to 15 per cent of the gross weight so that would put you at 910 lbs. to 1,365 lbs. tongue weight range.
